5 out of 5 eggsFine product

Pros: Price
Ease of use

Cons: None for me

Other Thoughts: Needed to get a Roku signal around a 90-degree turn to the back of the house, and it works like a charm. This sets at the midpoint of the house, the Roku at one end and my router at the other. The right angle turn put just a bit too much wall between router and Roku for a strong enough signal to reach. This picked up the router signal from about 20 feet and 2 rooms away, and sent it another 2 rooms and 20 feet. Very happy customer!

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE

Pros: I had problems resetting my extender and I called the Edimax company. They called me back and were very patient with me and they help me get my extender up and running even better. To me, that is the mark of a great company that will call you back and work with you until the problem was fixed. I cannot thank them enough. If you need an extender buy it from this company if you want REAL customer technical service.

Cons: NONE>>>>>

3 out of 5 eggsWorks Well, but Setup Extremely Tricky

Pros: The device works quite well once set up.

Cons: The setup process is prone to a number of weird snags, and there isn't enough available documentation to troubleshoot effectively. Specifically, the page on which you set up the Wi-Fi connection kept automatically refreshing, making it impossible to enter the network password. I almost returned it, but a last ditch, desperate attempt to solve the problem via trial-and-error finally paid off.

Other Thoughts: A more thorough setup walkthrough, troubleshooting guide, or FAQ would improve the experience dramatically.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Liunam,

We are sorry that you have troubles to setup the EW-7438RPn extender.

We knew the issue about the page keep automatically refreshing. This is a bug while there is only one wireless AP existed in your network. This issue has been resolved in newer firmware.

We have more FAQ on our USA site at http://support.edimax.us
You can find the firmware file under Driver Download section and also the instruction for firmware upgrade

Please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with any issues. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

Best regards,

5 out of 5 eggs2 Months Later

Pros: it's been working great so far. It in combo with a Rosewill RNX-N150UBE gets me ~85% signal strength 40ft away inside a metal building. Streaming media for hours at a time has been rock solid. Lost connection once whan a big brown truck got between the buildings to drop off some more awesome.

Cons: None yet...

Other Thoughts: I didn't buy two when they were on sale...

5 out of 5 eggsGood WiFi Extender so far

Pros: Instructions make this an Easy Set-Up from a laptop wirelessly for someone with modest knowledge
Solid Wireless Performance
relatively Inexpensive

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I use this as a wireless extender in an upstairs hallway and it works well. The set up was simple and done through my browser, where there are three options for specific uses. It gives a default SSID as the same one that is being extended but with "_EX2" added to the original SSID. You are able to keep the same SSID password or use a new one. I kept the same one to minimize the impact to all the laymen/laywomen in the house. I'm an engineer and a have a high technical knowledge, but this was far easier to install the ones I've used in the past that required a lot more manual configuration, ie no physical connection or static IP required. There are options for a proxy and other typical settings but not for a power user.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent wireless bridge

Pros: I used this on a Neptune Apex aquarium controller. Its plugged into an EB-8. I linked it up with my home wireless router over wireless. This has worked flawlessly for over a year and a half. It has a single Ethernet port (connected to the Apex which has only wired Ethernet) and that is exactly what i needed to get my Apex online.

Cons: None that I have seen i over a years use.

4 out of 5 eggsGood value

Pros: Works as described; good range and fast enough even though the unit adds an extra hop; compact size (leaves enough room to plug other cords next to it); all indicator lights can be configured off (e.g. no distracting glows)

Cons: setup can take some time if WPS isn't usable from the wireless router; resetting the unit may take multiple attempts; position of on/off switch can be tripped too easily if not careful

Other Thoughts: bought a second unit months later since the first one did exactly what I wanted

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Works as it should. I have it in the back of my house a good distance and a few walls that it has to travel through and as I'm typing this I have full signal.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Took me a sec. to figure how to set it up but it's not hard at all.
