5 out of 5 eggsBest Bridge Out There

This review is from: Edimax CV-7428nS N300 Universal Wireless Bridge for Smart TV, Blu-ray, NAS, and Gaming Console, With iQ-Setup for Hassle Free Installation; Green Technology for Energy-Saving

Pros: Easy to setup. Connects to a variety of networks. Reliable.

Cons: Plastic casing as opposed to metal.

Other Thoughts: Tested at least 4 other brands claiming bridging capabilities and they could not connect to our network. This sits in a 42 degree warehouse all day every day and has never hiccuped. Couldn't be happier.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

This review is from: Edimax CV-7428nS N300 Universal Wireless Bridge for Smart TV, Blu-ray, NAS, and Gaming Console, With iQ-Setup for Hassle Free Installation; Green Technology for Energy-Saving

Pros: It is small.
Would be good if you were using it to connect non-wireless devices to your network in the same room.

Cons: Does not extend range and my connection is actually slower with it than without.
There is no way to easily get back into the settings with starting over from scratch.

Other Thoughts: I had high hopes, but it does not work. My laptop connects to my wireless router at 120mbps. I connect the bridge in same spot, move 10' away (in an open room) and speed drops to 30mbps. Speed test drops from 14.5 to 4.2.

Cannot repack this fast enough

Manufacturer Response:

Dear cj,

We are sorry for the issue you are experiencing with CV-7428nS.

CV-7428nS is not a wireless extender. It can not extent wireless range because it does not send out wireless signal for wireless clients.

You have a wireless link speed 120mbps to the wireless router. We are not sure about your 30mbps link speed because CV-7428nS is not a wireless extender and your laptop can not use wireless to connect to CV-7428nS. If you use Ethernet cable to connect to the CV-7428nS, the link speed should be 100mbps Ethernet speed.

For any further assistance on our products, please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

5 out of 5 eggsInexpensive, yet effective

This review is from: Edimax CV-7428nS N300 Universal Wireless Bridge for Smart TV, Blu-ray, NAS, and Gaming Console, With iQ-Setup for Hassle Free Installation; Green Technology for Energy-Saving

Pros: I had two printers, a Samsung ML-2851ND and a Brother HL-4040CN, which I needed to convert from wired ethernet to wireless. Newegg had an assortment of offerings, and I also considered just getting a traditional router and setting it up in Bridge mode, but my router is powerful enough, and one of my requirements is a very low power draw, as every watt of power equates to 8.76kW per year of power usage. This device is rated for a maximum of 1A at 5v, or 5w, so it is very efficient, as typical power usage is lower.

Setup was very easy as advertised, just initiate the WPS procedure on my router and this bridge, and it was setup in under 2 minutes. Reception with the dual antennas is excellent. One of the neat features of this bridge is the ability to adjust the transmission power (100%, 50%, 35%, 15%) if you are concerned about network intrusion. There's also an LED Off function if you desire to switch the LED inductors off, but they are very dim.

You can also power this bridge via the included USB power cable.

Cons: While the network is unnamed after setup, it is still visible to wireless devices, so there is a chance it could be hacked, but I imagine the difficulty would make most hackers try to find an easy, unencrypted network to use. I'm also not sure if this device can accept incoming wireless connections in the first place, so this may all be a non issue.

The thing which threw me for a loop is that your router will not detect the wired components as being attached devices, only the bridge. Not a big deal unless you are connecting printers or perhaps NAS devices. Printer driver setup programs will detect them, though it may take a longer time. The good news is that even if you switch those devices off and then back on, say if there is a power failure, as long as the bridge does not lose power, the IP addresses will not change. I recommend a low wattage UPS to protect it from blackouts anyway.

Other Thoughts: It feels a little cheap, and it is a little on the pricy side, but it does what it says and is a very nice alternative to a powerline adapter and switch.

4 out of 5 eggsSeems to work well

This review is from: Edimax CV-7428nS N300 Universal Wireless Bridge for Smart TV, Blu-ray, NAS, and Gaming Console, With iQ-Setup for Hassle Free Installation; Green Technology for Energy-Saving

Pros: -Came bundled for free with an ASUS router
-Easy setup
-Came with a USB power adapter and a wall adapter.

Cons: -USB cable is only about 4 inches long, which happened to not be a problem because i have this hidden behind my PC

Other Thoughts: I cannot comment too strongly on performance because my old router was supplied by my ISP (optimum) and it was so bad that anything is an improvement. I have some connectivity issues like many report, but that is definitley on my ISPs end because when i disconnect this and run of the brand new ASUS router this was paired with i have the same issue.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Range

This review is from: Edimax CV-7428nS N300 Universal Wireless Bridge for Smart TV, Blu-ray, NAS, and Gaming Console, With iQ-Setup for Hassle Free Installation; Green Technology for Energy-Saving

Pros: Setup was fairly straight forward if you force your wireless router to transmit on particular bands/security.

Cons: I got what I should have expected from a cheap wireless access point, horrible range. This item has worse Wifi sensitivity than my 3 year old cell phone. Speed through the connection ranged from 1 to 12 Mbps, thus limiting my internet speed while being about 60-80 feet from the wireless source. While downloading games on Steam, the device would lose connection and regain connection every minuter or so.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the slow internet speed you are experiencing with CV-7428nS.

We are not sure the model number of your WiFi router.

Can you please try a different channel frequency in your WiFi router? Usually we use channel 1, 6, or 11. You may get different performance and internet speed with our CV-7428nS.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my Previous Review

This review is from: Edimax CV-7428nS N300 Universal Wireless Bridge for Smart TV, Blu-ray, NAS, and Gaming Console, With iQ-Setup for Hassle Free Installation; Green Technology for Energy-Saving

Pros: Easy to set up. Works as expected.

Cons: Maybe not the furthest range but Wi-Fi is a funny beast.

Other Thoughts: Previous I complained about the shipping speed. A comment that should have left on the shipper and not the product. I was in such a hurry to let my displeasure about the shipping vendor be known that I did not pay attention. to what I was doing. Not the manufactures fault.

2 out of 5 eggsSlower than the Molasses in January

This review is from: Edimax CV-7428nS N300 Universal Wireless Bridge for Smart TV, Blu-ray, NAS, and Gaming Console, With iQ-Setup for Hassle Free Installation; Green Technology for Energy-Saving

Pros: Product works and performs as expected.

Cons: Ordered on a Sunday. Order sat unprocessed until Friday. In the meantime I gave up and ordered one directly from another vendor on Thursday and got the one from the other vendor before this one which arrived the following Thursday. That works out to nine business days. Zzzzzzz.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Chrisrbmn,

We are sorry that you are not happy with the ordering process of Newegg. Usually Newegg is doing a great job in processing orders.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that our wireless bridge works well for you.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, works great

This review is from: Edimax CV-7428nS N300 Universal Wireless Bridge for Smart TV, Blu-ray, NAS, and Gaming Console, With iQ-Setup for Hassle Free Installation; Green Technology for Energy-Saving

Pros: Sensitive, it found many more wifi id's than my computer even with the little antennas.

Unlike some others Ive seen, this one stores your setting permanently. If power goes out or you need to unplug it and move it, it connects again in a few seconds with your saved password and settings.

Some people said it's usb powered ? Mine has a normal power adapter and round power plug.

Cons: Like others said, the included ethernet cable is short, about 3 ft. For me, thats not a problem, the device is right next to the vonage box. But cables are cheap, order a longer one with it if you need to.

Other Thoughts: What I needed was a bridge to hook up a vonage box (wired connections only) in a detached building, where I had wifi coverage.

It gets signal very well, it says 90% strength 100ft away from the router in a separate building. I plugged my laptop into it while setting it up (with the laptop's wifi off) and the internet was speedy fast, no noticeable slowing.

A tip, if you are getting poor wifi reception, check there are no other ssid's on your channel, if so, change the channel on your router. Also, many people still have old cordless phones, they use the same channels as most wifi's do. Get new phones, they use channels outside the wifi zone.

Some people said it's a pain to set up, I had no problem and it was up and running in a few minutes.

This product is great if you need a wired connection someplace where you have wifi coverage. Like for a tv, older non-wifi gaming console, blu-ray player, network printer, vonage box or any device the wifi has gone bad in. This could even be used in an office that has wifi, where you needed several desktop computers installed quickly with out running wires or buying separate wireless adapters.

Just remember this isnt a router or hotspot, you need to have wifi coverage already where you want to use it. This just coverts wifi back to a wired connection. You can plug 5 devices into it, you could probably plug a switch into it if you needed more than 5,. but you might be pushing the limits of this hardware.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Easy to Set Up

This review is from: Edimax CV-7428nS N300 Universal Wireless Bridge for Smart TV, Blu-ray, NAS, and Gaming Console, With iQ-Setup for Hassle Free Installation; Green Technology for Energy-Saving

Pros: Price

Cons: Unless you are a networking pro try something else. It wants you to change the ip address of the whole router to the point where the internet fails to get through, now this is only temporary to set up the device.
I did everything the instructions told me to do and nothing worked.

Other Thoughts: Tried on Windows 7 Pro

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your feedback. We would like to help you with the issue.

By default CV-7428nS is a DHCP server. It will give the Ethernet attached computer an IP address like 192.168.9.x. You can either go to the setup page at http://192.168.9.2 or http://edimax.go to make it connect to your wireless network. Please enter the same wireless password of your existing wireless network into the wireless bridge. Once the wireless bridge is connected, its DHCP will be disabled and it will get a dynamic IP address from your wireless router.

Attached is a step by step guide for the setup. You may try this guide after you hold the Reset button for 15 seconds. Hopefully this can help you out.

If you need any further assistance, please contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with any issues. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

Best regards,
