3 out of 5 eggs50% Survival Rate after 60 days

Pros: One of these is still working, and when it works, it works. Small and unobtrusive, can leave on laptop all the time.

Cons: Only one is still working...

Other Thoughts: One failed, shows up in device manager under USB devices, with an error that says "enumeration failed".

I tried to connect to another machine, does not show up in device manager at all.

Using with two Windows 8.1 laptops with Edimax supplied driver. With all the time involved in RMA'ing, I'm not sure it's worth even doing after the cost of shipping.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate - the best tech support

Pros: Easy setup. 802.11ac. Fast internet speed. Very tiny size.

Cons: I went to my friend's place and i still cannot see their 5Ghz network through edimax adapter. Then I called edimax tech support. Im very surprised that they have real people to help me. They asked me to change the 5Ghz channel and it just works!

If you do not know how to change 5Ghz channel. just call edimax..they will take care of everything. thank you edimax!

4 out of 5 eggsFive Star

Pros: Easy install on my 2011 MacBook. My OS X is Mavericks (10.9) Easily connect to Airport Extreme station. It is much faster than my build-in airport card. Small and inexpensive adapter for 11ac. Recommend to every Macbook users.

Cons: Need to install the driver before you use it. If you have a Macbook Air which does not have DVD-Rom, you will need to download the drive from website. 5ghz connectivity issue.

Other Thoughts: I like the design of this adapter. Once you plug it into MAcbook, you wont need to remove it. It is very convenient.

I dont have any problem to use it at my home, however, I could not see any 5ghz signal at my friend's house. My friends use the same router (airport extreme station).

5 out of 5 eggsWould buy again

Pros: Very compact size.
5GHz capability
Inexpensive Price.

Cons: I can't buy them locally

Other Thoughts: I had to find small USB wifi adapter that supports 5ghz and I came upon this. This "EW-7711 MAC" adapter will work in WinXP and Win7 machine, which is perfect for. We bought 4 and none gave us any trouble.

1 out of 5 eggsNot ready for home, either

Pros: Small size; fast connection.
Software uninstaller works.

Cons: Can't hold a connection, even at 100% signal strength.
Doesn't like sleep-wake cycle; it will crash the machine after a couple of times (and I do mean crash: goes to black screen and the machine reboots).
Requires installation of it's own driver and utility software, which sits in the menu bar with an icon at least twice the size of any other.
Not really "Plug it and Forget It".

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my wife's older MacBook running OS 10.9.4 to give it a speed boost, which it does for as long as it is working. I wanted something she would not have to even know was there. Unfortunately, this is not that item. I'm pretty sure that this could all be solved in the driver software, but the version on the website is the same as on the included CD.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are very sorry for the issues you are experiencing.

We need to come out with a Mac wireless utility for the wireless adapter to search for wireless networks, to pick up a network to connect to, to enter the wireless security password. The adapter can not work as plug&play like the built-in airport wireless adapter.

We will release a new driver very soon. It can fix the issue of the sleep/awake. Please contact us so we can deliver the new driver to you. You also may check our web site at http://us.edimax.com in 2 weeks.

Please feel free to contact us at (408)-988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our support team will assist you with the issues.

Best regards,
Edimax Customer Service Team

2 out of 5 eggsUtility not ready for corporate setting

Pros: Looks great, matches the MacBook Pro nicely - even though its plastic.

Cons: - Issues with wireless roaming - i.e. moving from one access point to another with the same SSID - utility would not reconnect
- leaving macbook plugged in and walking away for 20 minutes - coming back to the laptop - wifi is disconnected and the WiFi utility software no longer responsive (frozen)
- Wireless utility will show your PEAP wifi password - this is a major security risk as the password is generally tied to your network domain access
- connect/reconnect time is slow, i.e. takes more than 5 seconds. I didn't time it exactly, but this makes it difficult to use when going from one meeting room to another.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are very sorry for the issues you are experiencing.

We have done some tests about the wireless roaming. In our tests, EW-7711MAC can connect to the second router (or AP) with the same SSID if the first AP and the second AP are in the same IP network. We can not reproduce your issue unfortunately. We may need to know the brand and the model of your wireless access points.

We will release a new driver very soon. It can fix the issue of the sleep/awake. Please contact us so we can deliver the new driver to you.

Our product management team will discuss about hiding the PEAP wifi password in the utility.

You may contact us at (408)-988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our support team will assist you with the issues.

Best regards,
Edimax Customer Service Team
