3 out of 5 eggsWorks for its purpose

Pros: Stable print server when it is configured properly. Interfaces well with HP laserjets, Tally line printers and Datamax and Zebra label printers.

Cons: Web interface is java based which is really difficult to use because it does not load properly. Loads initial menu but java applet sections do not load, thus requires a hard reset or factory reload of the device. Internet Explorer seems to work the best with Java 1.6u30.

Other Thoughts: Deployed about 100 of these and older devices which have been online for more than three years are not accessible through port 80. they continue to work on port 9100 for print jobs, but the admin page is not available at all.

1 out of 5 eggsOutdated and rip-off price!

Pros: It works.

Cons: Outdated. Overpriced to the point that it would make sense for 99% of those contemplating this to just use the money toward the purchase of new, networked printers/MFPs.

If you have an old, parallel port monster that was very expensive back in the day...odds are you are wasting time, money and electricity on old, inefficient equipment. Time to leave the past in the past, recycle the old and get something new. Today, a $200-$500 machine can outperform anything with parallel connections.

These are priced for legacy devices and HP is taking advantage of ignorance and fear.

Other Thoughts: An equal replacement is going to cost you less, save you money through efficiency of resources - including electricity, toner, employee time, machine time and this all equals better ROI. Time to let go of the old beast.

4 out of 5 eggsTime tested

Pros: * It works.

I ran an IT shop for over a decade, we had a number of these. Not once do I ever remember have to power cycle one. More recently I picked up a couple $70 knockoffs for my home. I have to reboot them all the time.

Cons: * Costs. Why does a piece of gear from the 1990s cost this much?

Other Thoughts: If you're running a shop where "can't print" is your problem, try one of these if you're having problems with the cheapo printer servers.

1 out of 5 eggsWhere are the detailed details

Pros: it's a print server

Cons: At the time of this review the specs for this product are not well documented. I expect Newegg to document their products better.

Other Thoughts: I like the new layout of the site, but I'm starting to notice that specifications are not as well documented. Like this many printers does it support? I can look it up but most likely I'll do that on another retail site and I'll buy it from them.
