HP IntelliJack NJ1000 JD050A Ethernet Switch

HP IntelliJack Gigabit switches are compact 10/100/1000 switches that can be installed in a standard wall outlet box, quickly converting an existing single-port LAN wall outlet into four switched Gigabit Ethernet ports. These "network jacks" provide a simple solution for adding network ports without running more cabling. Unlike conventional desktop switches, HP IntelliJack devices reside out of the way-literally in-the-wall-and so are more secure from theft and difficult to accidentally disconnect or damage. The innovative HP IntelliJack switches provide four Ethernet ports for local connectivity plus one uplink port. Two additional RJ-45 "pass- through ports" flexibly support a range of additional service and user connectivity options. It can be powered locally or via Power over Ethernet (PoE), and can output standard PoE on up to two ports to directly power attached devices such as IP phones or wireless access points.

Cons: Killed the port on our Cisco Switch that it was plugged into. I am returning both units I purchased. The unit powered on for a moment and then went dead. I wen back to our main switch to find that the port it was plugged into is now dead and not coming back. I did not test the other unit so I don't know if the first one is just defective but I am not willing to put another Cisco port in the line of fire to find out. 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful. If you're main switch is 802.3af, you need an optional injector. Cons: No power adapter included (which is becoming a pretty ridiculous norm for PoE electronics). Tested at different areas, switch works great except when needing PoE. The switch powers up via PoE but doesn't send out power to the 2 PoE ports. Have not ordered the power adapter to see if those ports work with that actually plugged in to an outlet but according to the documentation, those ports should be powered up with either setup. Other Thoughts: I bought three of these and would buy more if those PoE ports work as expected. Great idea, just need to get it straight. 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Did you?
