The WL-520GU wireless router from Asus deserves the word "versatile" in its name. It distinguishes itself from others by adding a built-in printer server, bringing today’s digital home and digital office a simply solution to share MFP printing and scanning functions for multiple users.

runs tomato like a champ
- Pros: Flashed it with Tomato in about 5 mins. Nice wireless, small and efficient (pulls 3 watts from the wall--I checked), good build quality. Fast processor (240 mhz) and decent amount of flash + ram. Really cheap w/rebate.
- Cons: The stock firmware is a complete joke; if Asus were smart they'd fire the people they hired to make that stuff and just use an open-source firmware package. Without tomato, I'd rate this thing 1 to 2 stars. Flashing w/Tomato or DD-WRT is essential.
- Other Thoughts: Great deal--will make your network rock solid w/tomato
Good router. Not great
- Pros: It was cheap. Looks like it's well build. Can install DD-WRT or Tomato firmware.
Handles torrents with no problem up to 4000 connections. No freezing, no lockups.
- Cons: Bad QOS, could not get it working well ether with DD-WRT or Tomato (I have two VoIP phones ). Average Wi-FI performance. USB on this router is useless. I have it disabled

Great little router
- Pros: Easy to flash with DD-WRT, even by someone who's never tried DD-WRT before (me!). Good specs: 16MB RAM and 4MB Flash allow for bigger builds. Provided a strong signal for a wireless client bridge to my PS3 downstairs (the PS3 built-in wireless sucks pretty bad). The AC adapter only takes up one "slot" in a power-strip.
- Cons: I think I bought it on the high end of Newegg's fluctuating prices. The Asus rebate is a Visa gift card, not a check.
- Other Thoughts: For those of you that need a minimum build of DD-WRT or just want to create a client bridge, the cheaper 520GC would have worked out just as well. I wanted the beefier 520GU for firmware flexibility in the future.
asus + tomato = heaven
- Pros: I got this unit, comes pretty well set up, with setup cd and all the goods. I set it up, replaced firmware with tomato, Internet connection is perfect. Everything is running smoothly. I have features I didn't have before and Now I have more control which is good for me. Excellent hardware. Runs great.
- Cons: default firmware is vomit while it has features, navigating through it is a mess. Why can't they keep it stupid simple. replaced with tomato firmware. works excellent. now the features i want are there, easy to setup and its working amazingly well.
Delicious Tomato
- Pros: Stable, flexible and easy to hack on. Large and active user community with the same (or very similar) router means plenty of support for non-standard configurations. Tomato installed and configured smoothly. My ASUS rebate came through on time, but that was back in September.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I have not tested the ASUS firmware or the wireless features. I use the Tomato firmware modified specifically for this router. It is the first result on Google when you search for: linksysinfo 60185
