For the very best in wireless broadband technology, look no further than the ASUS WL-520GC router.
This router features a unique Wi-Fi enhancement that provides increased performance beyond similar devices. In fact, BroadRange technology can offer up to 300% more signal coverage than the standard 802.11g router. Additionally, the 125 high speed mode provides up to 135% faster transfer speeds than other 11g products. When your network needs to move quickly, your router needs to keep up. The ASUS WL-520GC will.
Best of all, the WL-520GC is easy to set up and features a host of security features like WEP and WPA configuration. Build your home or office network with ASUS today!
Pros: Works exactly like I wanted. Upgraded factory firmware to DD-WRT and everything works, on both units that I purchased. If you want DD-WRT, this is the unit to buy. very low cost and feature-full. (after going with DD-WRT). I have a $496 Sonicwall that does not do what this can do. Praise, praise praise after this point. Dyndns.org works opendns.com works. everything. LOVING IT!!
Cons: Firmware is too 'up to date' so, I had to downgrade ASUS firmware from 2.0.1.1 to 2.0.0.6 in order to get the "dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin" to load via web interface. This took some trial and error, but it did work. To do this, rename the ASUS firmware from "WL520gc_2.0.0.6_EN.trx" to "WL520gc_2.0.1.2_EN.trx". Then, after rebooting, upload the "dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin" and reboot. WORKS!
Other Thoughts: You will not find a more feature-rich, inexpensive solution to your routing needs than this one... I would compare it to something that would cost me more than $1000 to replace, if purchased at retail. Again, I've done this to 2 of the routers I've purchased from newegg, and both are thriving. Check out the benefits of dd-wrt. You'll be amazed.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Easy to set up no manual needed , some might not agree depending on knowledge. Great wireless signal strength for my conditions, Excellent wired Throughput. I get Between 10-13MB/s when transferring over wired network using FTP (95-100% Network Utilization). Over wireless G I get 4-6MB/s. Enough features and settings to keep me happy and meet my needs.
Cons: None worth mentioning
Other Thoughts: Throughput is dependent on numerous things so not everyone will be able to achieve the same results. Things you can try to achieve better transfer speeds. Defrag with a program like JKDefrag (its free) or similar program. If you know how to navigate to your network card's properties Click on the advanced tab and try setting these settings on both/all computers. Flow Control: Disabled Low Power State Link Speed: Disabled Network Address: Not Present Optimize For: Throughput Speed/duplex Settings: Autoneg for 100FD (Full Duplex) Vlan&Priority: Disabled Vlan Id: 1 Wake on Magic Packet/Pattern: Disabled
If I set Speed/duplex Settings to 100 MB Full Duplex and not Autoneg for 100FD I'd get speeds of only 600KB/s... Names for settings might vary depending on network card.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Looks nice. I bought it from Newegg, so the RMA process kept me from getting irate about this unit's non-performance.
Cons: The original firmware on this device is useless. It won't work right out of the box. RMA It appears that Asus is doing their best to support the open source community with this unit since the only way to make it work is to use 3rd party firmware.
Other Thoughts: I was looking for a plug and play wireless router, this isn't it. I wasn't looking for something that requires 3rd party firmware to do its job. I replaced this with one that is ready to go right out of the box. For me, this unit isn't worth the time (time = money) I spent trying to get it to work. I can't call it DOA, but I would feel better if it was. The thing turns on and I can address it fine to change the settings, but if any of the settings are changed, like simply activating encryption, it won't access the internet. Maybe this is the Asus way to greater online security; just don't get online. When they say "DD-WRT open source support" what they seem to mean is "It won't work unless you use DD-WRT". Because the original firmware on this thing is a joke.

Pros: Works with dd-wrt micro build
Cons: No complaints, it just works
Other Thoughts: Have to downgrade firmware to install dd-wrt. Find version 2.0.0.8, rename the file to a version # higher than your current, and install it via the web interface. After that, just throw dd-wrt micro build at the web interface's firmware upgrade page and voila.
Sometimes when you hook it up for the very first time out of the box, it won't set itself up as the default 192.168.1.1 that it says it does. Using the setup cd, as much as I hate installing random software on my computer, works the kinks out in about 2 minutes. Had to do this with 2 out of the 3 I bought.
