2 out of 5 eggsWay Too Flaky

Pros: It has lots of features (if you flash DD-WRT). It was cool to have a cheap router that "behaved" like a much more expensive model.

Cons: I had a lot of weird issues that cropped up/got worse over time. For example, the router would spontaneously reset itself to stock DD-WRT settings every month or two. No idea why this would happen, but it would crash, and when I unplugged and plugged it, it would magically be reset to default.

Also, large downloads would inevitably fail at some point, and there was no clear reason why this happened.

I tried a number of different builds of DD-WRT, and none of them fixed this problem. It seems like it was a hardware issue.

I can tolerate hardware that outright fails, but not hardware that is intermittently flaky. I ended up replacing it with something much more reliable.

Also, the stock firmware sucked.

Also, when I first installed tried to setup the router, I found that the router's default IP conflicted with my DSL modem's default IP. It took me a lot of poking through forums to figure out that this was the cause (although it was quickly resolved once I figured things o

Other Thoughts: I would never buy another router whose out-of-the-box firmware is as lousy as this one. It shows a lack of attention to detail.

If you are going to market it as a DD-WRT router, it should come with a known good build of DD-WRT, and that should be an officially supported configuration.

If you want to run DD-WRT, buy a high-quality router that happens to run DD-WRT, and install it. I guarantee that your experience will be much better.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little router

Pros: Great little router. Flashed this with DD-WRT to create a repeater bridge (connect one lan to another by a wireless link, then make the second router a repeater to boost wifi range). It's got decent range. Doesn't produce a ton of heat.

Cons: The default web interface kinda sucks / is annoying.
Does't have N or gigabit support, and doesn't have much storage space (can't go bigger than dd-wrt-micro) but its cheap, so its expected.

Other Thoughts: Mine came with 2.0.1.1 firmware, have to downgrade to 2.0.0.8 (by renaming the old firmware file to 2.0.1.2 or higher) before you can flash dd-wrt on it. Everything can be done through the web interface, so that's great.

file used => renamed to
WL520gc_2.0.0.8_EN.trx => WL520gc_2.0.1.2_EN.trx
dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin (build 14896) => dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.trx

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for work

Pros: Great little router right outta the box. Setup was easy and in a few minutes I was setup & running. Easy logical interface, simple to use & has more options than I know what to do with (easy to do, but not THAT easy)

Cons: Well it's not an N speed router, but you can't really hold that against it, especially not for the price.

Other Thoughts: Got this for work & it's been running trouble free for months. I just boxed it up & sent it over to my boss at our main store for them to use. Just printed out a card with all the security codes (I set it up for their store before sending it down) and another card with just the SSID & pass key. EASY

5 out of 5 eggsDD-WRT micro on the cheap

Pros: This router has proven to be very reliable. I'm a fan of DD-WRT and my Linksys running micro bit the dust after 6 years or so. Set it up in less than 15 minutes including downloading the new firmware. Bought a second and set it up as a client bridge for bedroom Media PC and networked electronics for my home theater.

Cons: First units power supply bit the dust after a couple weeks.

Other Thoughts: First unit I received worked for about 2 weeks before seemingly dying. Was going to RMA but decided to bust out my bag of old wall pack power supplies. Sure enough the power supply had bit the dust not the router. Second router has been going strong with the original supply for better part of 6 months.

4 out of 5 eggsvery solid...easy to install

Pros: works out of the box..comes with easy install CD which worked great. very good signal strength...better that my old tp_link which crapped the bed during a power outage. I would recommend this router

Cons: the install instructions were sort of sketchy but with the easy install feature it didn't matter

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm!

Pros: Initially I just plugged it in and connected right to the internet.
I upgraded the firmware to micro dd-wrt and the routers IP address because it was conflicting with my WAN IP and works just great. I connect my two gaming pcs via ethernet cords.

I use the wireless for my iphones and internet tablet. The wireless works absolutely great. Full bars from anywhere in my house (3 floors).

Cons: None thus far.

Other Thoughts: If you don't mind the micro dd-wrt I would recommend this router. For the price you can't go wrong.
