4 out of 5 eggsgood product, slow rebate

Pros: It worked right out of the box with no problems. I am using it as a wireless, encrypted repeater, though I did use it for a while as my primary wireless router with no problems. It was very easy to set it up, literally a flip of a switch and a few minutes with the setup program.

Cons: They received my no-wait rebate application on 11/11/2010, but I have not yet received my rebate. For a reduction of $2 they promised to process quickly but obviously have not. They claim to have processed it on 11/30 and issued the VISA card on 12/8.... well don't count on the rebate or their promise for faster service for the $2 fee.

Other Thoughts: I asked them to add the $2 back into the $20 rebate since they didn't live up to their promise....we'll see what they do.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: Can be used with DD-WRT.
Good looking!

Cons: No wireless.
Useless support.

Horrendous warranty:
Returned to ASUS for replacement. It is about 20 days after they received it, and still no repair/replacement. When contacted, they did not have it in stock and they are waiting for replacement!

1 out of 5 eggsBroke down

Pros: Worked well initially.

Cons: After 10 and half months it broke down and stopped working.
Warranty of 1 year is one year after manufacturing date. Mine was manufactured 3 months before I bought it, so no warranty coverage.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Good price (especially with mfgr rebate). Very nice user interface via browser.

Cons: Unreliable Printer Server function.

Other Thoughts: As a wireless router the ASUS RT-N13U works satisfactorily. But if you are buying this for the printer server function, DON'T. You will waste a lot of time thinking that you have it working reliably, and then boom, the printer just disappears from the USB port. And, Yes, ASUS tech folks, I did load the latest 7.6.2.2 firmware. Reduced to just the wireless router function, I would have bought another well-known brand.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: Perfect wired router.

Cons: Buy this if wireless functionality is not at all needed. Bought this to upgrade from G and for USB port. Wireless part is useless. Not a single G client could connect to it, where as they can connect flawlessly anywhere, including my old G router. Tried all configurable wireless options such as:
Wireless Mode: "Auto", "g Only", ...
b/g Protection: on, off
Authentication Method: WPA2, WPA, Open System
WPA Encryption: TKIP, AES
etc.
Signal strength is excellent but even a single packet can pass. Client with fixed IP or DHCP same issue (as there is no data flowing, no IP # is given when DHCP is used).

Non B1 version. Upgraded to DD-WRT to resolve the issue without any success. Guessed Asus would not talk to me if I have non-Asus firmware and reversed to factory firmware 1.0.2.0.

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your time handling this router. Asus tech support was quick to point "the problem is with my PC" and did not agree the problem is with the router. Unapologetic, unfriendly, they think RMA is a very big favor.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this router...

Pros: Easy setup

Cons: Weak signal.
Locations where I had strong signal earlier (with Belkin N router) is now patchy - even after upgrading to latest firmware

Other Thoughts: Will not recommend to any one.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome, after asus firmware ditched

Pros: this router has fairly good specs for its price range, as well as usb support, asus' initial firmware has a few problems, you'll find that flashing with dd wrt fixes all of these and makes this router one of the best at this price.

Cons: flashing to dd-wrt takes a few minutes, should come with it installed

Other Thoughts: newegg currently has the rev1, revb1 is not supported, but has higher specs which may offset asus' firmware.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for reviewing the RT-N13U. We apologize for the issues you were experiencing with the initial firmware. We have released a beta firmware, 7.6.2.2, which can be downloaded from http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=O8alKdC7I2FAs2FQ&templete=2 and then click the 'Download' tab. Anyone who has had issues with the initial firmware or any other firmware, please flash the firmware to 7.6.2.2 as this firmware fixes the reported issues with the RT-N13U.

Sincerely,

ASUS Support Team

4 out of 5 eggsGreat router for the money - Range issues

Pros: Good price (especially with rebate)
Reliable (running DD-WRT from day 1)
Attractive
DD-WRT/open-source support
USB

Cons: Wireless range issues

Other Thoughts: Replaced an aging Linksys WRT-54 and moved up to .11n. Installed DD-WRT on first power-up. DD-WRT provides a wealth of really useful features with this router, and it works well on it. My one issue is with the 802.11 range (all bands). My WRT-54 had no problems maintaining a g link from my basement to my 2nd floor, but this Asus does. I suspect the lack of external antenna hurts it here. Otherwise this is a great device. Considering buying another for a friend.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid!

Pros: Cheap, yet solidly constructed unit.. The included features are very good for the price. I didn't check out the features though to see if they work, so your milage may vary. Wired products seem to work well, however.. Read cons.

DD-WRT compatibility

Cons: This unit's wireless does NOT work whatsoever, and if by some ungodly way I got any one of my three laptops to connect, the ping to the ROUTER, not the internet, was 1000ms+, if it didn't time out. absolutely horrendous. I have a feeling the wireless radio hardware itself is shot, but I mean really, that's a little unacceptable for a shipped product.

The interface is shoddy and riddled with poor english. I found Dr. surf to be particularly useless, but I'm in networking at school so there might be a slight bias there.

Other Thoughts: The firmware shipped fully updated for my non-B1 revision (1.0.2.0) and I also tried the latest development beta of DD-WRT, with the exact same results.

This also was not purchsed from newegg.

One star for a critical and core feature not working. Disappointing from Asus.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are experiencing with the wireless functionality of this router. Have you tried testing with encryption turned off to see if the same symptoms are exhibited? Also, you should ensure that you are using the latest drivers for your wireless adapters. Please contact me at OC_Support@asus.com and reference case number NE0668 so that I can work with you to help resolve this issue.

Best Regards,

ASUS Support Team
