1 out of 5 eggsWorked alright, for a few days...

This review is from: ASUS USB-N13 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: It worked fine, cheap, easy to use!

Cons: It broke within 2 weeks of owning it! it would randomly cut out at any time, and it was fairly slow at connecting.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this to anyone! it has the same lifespan as a cancerous goldfish.

1 out of 5 eggsConnection Constantly Drops

This review is from: ASUS USB-N13 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Connection is very good, while it lasts. Inexpensive.

Cons: Connection drops every five to ten minutes.

Other Thoughts: I bought the ASUS USB N13 wireless dongle because I have an older ASUS wireless dongle that works wonderfully well. I guess I just got lucky with that first one, because this one is a nightmare!

When I first boot up, it connects right away with excellent signal strength. This lasts for five to ten minutes, when it just drops the connection. It will reconnect the first two or three times, but after that it just stops working at all.

At this point I can usually use the Troubleshooter in Windows' Networking to get the dongle to start working and begin the entire cycle again. When the Troubleshooter doesn't do the trick, I have to go to the Device Manager and remove the dongle, then have the Device Manager scan for new hardware to get it re-added.

I have worked with Windows for 25+ years and have looked at everything I can think of that might have any possibility of affecting networking or USB to remedy this and I am stumped.

2 out of 5 eggsFor FreeBSD, there's two versions of this

This review is from: ASUS USB-N13 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Price. It's listed as able to be an Access Point.

Cons: Two versions of this device, A and B. One uses RALink and the other uses RealTek. Not an issue for Windows or even Linux, but a definite issue for FreeBSD (and by extension, pfSense).

Other Thoughts: I purchased this to enable my pfSense firewall (FreeBSD based) to become a wireless access point. It's listed in various FreeBSD and pfSense documents as being compatible with AP Mode. However, A is compatible and B is not. And, nobody sells them by which version is which. So, it was a risk. I just wish Asus would have labeled them completely differently as to enable me to discern what I was actually buying. Seems like a nice device, but I can't do anything with the B version shipped to me.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Connections

This review is from: ASUS USB-N13 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Easy to install, that's about it.

Cons: Drivers were terribly out of date for "plug and play" design. Connection speed was what I expected but the constant dropping of the connection (every 5-10 seconds) I did not expect. There was only one wall between my desktop and the router (15 ft away). I chose this over installing a wireless card, wont make that mistake again. Maybe purchasing a higher level of this product would grant better results, either way I would warn others about purchasing this product, research and look at other products before purchasing this product.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Derrike,

We want to extend our sincerest apology for any inconvenience this has caused you. We want to fix the performance issue that you are having with your WiFi right away. Please be advised, if you are experiencing an intermittent/slow connection, please try to place the router to a different location. That's why you encountered the disconnection from the internet due to interference. Elevate your router away from floors. You'll get better reception if the router is on a desk, not on the floor. You should also pay attention to the kinds of materials the router and adapter is near. For example, placing the router on a metal desk or up against a metal wall will cause problems. Signals can travel through a wood desk easily, but metal will obstruct the signals. This is the examples appliances can cause wireless interference, including cordless phones, baby monitors, and microwave ovens.

For further technical assistance or if you want to discuss this matter with me, please email me back at customerloyalty@asus.com and put case # N151167727 in the subject line for your reference.

I'm here to help you and all others with these issues, as our customer loyalty department dedicated to bringing a resolution to all issues related to our products.

2 out of 5 eggsCost benefit ratio

This review is from: ASUS USB-N13 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Has worked very well at 2.4 Ghz for 9+ months. CHEAP and reliable at 2.4

Cons: Lost the capability for 5 Ghz after 2 months. It just quit detecting the 5Ghz signal. The signal IS available as other devices can connect using it but this adapter just quit working at that frequency

Other Thoughts: Fortunately I can still get 25 MBs download speeds which are sufficient for my needs but less than the 50 I am paying for. [SIGH]

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Sandra,

We're very sorry to know that our product didn't meet your expectations. We will be glad to help you out with any issues you may encounter on our products. I do understand that you're having an issue with the wireless connection of your 5GHz band. If you are experiencing an intermittent connection, please try to place the router to a different location. That's why you encountered the disconnection from the internet due to interference. Elevate your router away from floors. You’ll get better reception if the router is on a desk, not on the floor. Signals can travel through a wood desk easily, but metal will obstruct the signals. This is the examples appliances can cause wireless interference, including cordless phones, baby monitors, and microwave ovens. We need to isolate this case before we proceed with the RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). Please be advised that all ASUS products have a warranty. We can process an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) to fix the problem.

5 out of 5 eggsI own 4-5 of these, and I've never had a problem.

This review is from: ASUS USB-N13 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Put DVD in, install software, point to your router, finished.

Cons: Maybe the software is a little clunky, but the reception of this device is so much better compared to the netgear *edited* for offensive word c-r-ap

1 out of 5 eggsBeware!

This review is from: ASUS USB-N13 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Never has worker correctly, poor reception, no help from support, had to replace it. Poor and dropped connections even from ASUS high en routers.

Cons: Poor setup. Poor and dropped connections. No help from ASUS support. Trash now.

Other Thoughts: Unless you can fix it by yourself, or modify it to make it work, I advise buy from another more reliable and helpful company. Don't expect help, replacement, or refund!

Manufacturer Response:

Let me go ahead and further assist you. If you are having problems with the unstable connection, please use the following troubleshooting steps:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat wifi adapter for my WD Media Player

This review is from: ASUS USB-N13 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Great range with the IEEE802.11 "N" WiFi
Plug and play without any necessary software
Worked out of the box
Sturdy construction
It performed just as advertised

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This Asus USB-N13 Wireless Adapter (USB) was one of the few approved adapters for use with the WD Live-TV Media Players with 1TB HDD.

It was really easy to use. I plugged it in and it worked!

I was now able to connect to my network via WiFi "N" via the setup in the WD Media Player LiveTV! Not only could I connect to the internet for various apps like YouTube, I was now able to connect to the network drive and play 1080p movies.
