4 out of 5 eggsNetwork gear should look industrial.

Pros: It functions and is cheap. I can't tell if the special port helps.

Cons: It looks too "toy like", and that turns out to be a problem in offices because people don't realize it's a network switch or something not to be tampered with.

Other Thoughts: Basically, network equipment should look like an ugly metal box. The plainer, the better. I find that all the metal boxes get left alone, but all the plastic, "designed" stuff gets touched, even abused. People shove them around, stick them behind cabinets, unplug and replug cables, etc. It's very odd. It also happens with routers and access points. Generally, if it looks "official" or like something they wouldn't buy, they won't mess with it too much. If it looks like something from the Apple store, they'll try to mess with it, totally thwarting any effort to do configuration for the device. If it looks "consumer", you might be stuck using only the default settings.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, lots of ports

Pros: Used this to upgrade to gigabit from 100 mbps in the home office. SSH/rsync transfers are now CPU-limited instead of network-limited. Nice.

Cons: I'd have preferred a black housing instead of a white one.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat deal but not what pic shows

Pros: Works good, great throughput, low profile, VOIP prioritizing, great price especially with the rebate.

Cons: Very little documentation, more on the outside of the box than the manual. Newegg picture shows white model with gray inlay which is one of the reason I specifically purchased this but it's all white and rather boring looking. But it works great so no biggie.

5 out of 5 eggsworks well

Pros: works as advertised

Cons: It's not the one in the picture

Other Thoughts: I replaced a netgear switch because I was having network VooDoo - I don't know that much about it. I ended up disabling IPV6 on all of my windows 7 machines and rejiggered the order that the different switches and routers plug into the modem and I'm good to go. I really don't know if there was anything wrong with the old switch.

5 out of 5 eggsOrder this and get GX-D1081

Pros: Small, lightweight, PnP - Giga speeds work on Cat5e

Cons: Documentation is lacking,

Other Thoughts: I specifically purchased V1 of this switch with the silver molding but received V2 which is completely white. no biggie. You can still get the additional $10 rebate from Asus using either version.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus 8 Port GX-D1081 Switch

Pros: easy to install, no config necessary jut moved network cables to it and rebooted pc's and now have gigabit speeds.

Went from a 10/100 hub cap of 10mb/sec xfers to 60-80mb/sec xfers on CAT5 Cables, did not have to upgrade to cat6. All I had to do was change out my old hub for this switch. Easy as Pie.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Why haven't you got one?

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: It is super light. It works very well. Mounted to the wall using pushpins (thats how light it is)

Cons: Didn't come with any mounting screws like the box claimed it did, but whatever, pushpins work fine.
