This review is from: ASUS PCE-N15 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express 300/300Mbps Transfer/Receive Rate 64-bit WEP, 128-bit WEP, WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK, WPS support

Pros: It passes a basic idea of functioning when it is actually functioning.

I'm in the market for a new NIC?

Cons: Nonstop connectivity issues over the WiFi. I'm always connected to the router, but there isn't any guarantee that an internet connection will be working through the connection.

The Asus network utility is useless and can't even see the router. It picks up 2 ad-hoc networks from cellphones (I think, the information given is practically nil) and a connection to a Roku device.

In attempting to combat my connection issues I wanted to increase the receive buffer but can't, because that function can't be adjusted on this model.

I tried reinstalling the driver and the Asus utility because I had forgotten how terrible it was, and I thought maybe I could adjust the receive buffer through it, but no. Now I'm back to just trying to get windows to recognize and activate the card. Which I now remember I have no idea how I got it to work in the first place. So here we go...again.

Other Thoughts: When doing an internet speed test, the graph given, which should look like a mesa (upstroke to max bandwidth, some variation in speed, then downstroke to complete downloading cycle), it looks more like a child drawing a mountain range with peaks of 15mb/s speeds and valleys that return to the baseline. There will be a greater degree of variation in bandwidth speeds due to signal fluctuation, but seriously. This is terrible.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Range

This review is from: ASUS PCE-N15 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express 300/300Mbps Transfer/Receive Rate 64-bit WEP, 128-bit WEP, WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK, WPS support

Pros: Really has no problems seeing my router which is quite a way away. Good fast connection every power-up. Good speed once I remembered to turn off the TKIP encryption. Small card stays out of the way.

Cons: Not really a CON, but it sees all the neighbors' networks, quite the SSID list.

Other Thoughts: I have several ASUS products including an ASUS motherboard and an ASUS RT-N66U Dual band router, all have been really good equipment.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Choice

This review is from: ASUS PCE-N15 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express 300/300Mbps Transfer/Receive Rate 64-bit WEP, 128-bit WEP, WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK, WPS support

Pros: It has been running strong since day one. Its been reliable so far, and given me really decent speeds for a wireless card.

Cons: The software, is kinda annoying tbh, and it takes longer than i would like to connect. When i say longer than i would like up to 20 seconds after its loaded the desktop.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

This review is from: ASUS PCE-N15 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express 300/300Mbps Transfer/Receive Rate 64-bit WEP, 128-bit WEP, WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK, WPS support

Pros: Works great for me at around 25 feet from my wireless router, and through a couple walls. Was easy to install the hardware, and the disk to install the interface was simple and fast. Would highly recommend for anyone who needs something for a home office computer. Can't say how it handles gaming however.

Cons: None.

3 out of 5 eggsSeems to work good. Diver Issues

This review is from: ASUS PCE-N15 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express 300/300Mbps Transfer/Receive Rate 64-bit WEP, 128-bit WEP, WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK, WPS support

Pros: Seems to have very good signal strength. No problem connecting to my router through multiple walls. Small. Cheap enough. I bought this so I wouldn't have to deal with a janky USB adapter anymore.

Cons: Driver install was a bit of a problem. Installing from the CD or the updated "Utility" download from Asus wouldn't result in a working card. Initially the card would connect to the router, but there was "no internet access". Windows 7 seemed to recognise the card only as a b/g rather than n unit. Uninstalling/re-installing resulted in a "the device did not install properly" message. Eventually I installed the driver only option from the updated "utility" download from Asus's website (install failed Windows did not recognise the card). Using the device manager for update/install drivers I used the "manually select driver from a list of installed hardware", or whatever its called. Selected the right card from the drop down. Once the card was installed properly I had to open its properties in the device manager, select the advanced tab, and "enable" the setting labeled "11n Adhoc". That seemed sort everything out.

The included networking utility from Asus is incomprehensible, don't bother unless you need to.

Other Thoughts: It seems like the driver install utility from Asus is unloading a bunch of drivers for a number of different cards, but is not to successful in letting you Os know which card is actually installed or which driver to actually used. Seems like the wrong driver was associated with the card, or Windows was totally failing to install the proper driver. You have to find a way to sort that out manually. I can see this thing maybe being a problem to trouble shoot given its software is kind of a mess.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ryu,

We want to thank you for posting this review and we appreciate that even though you have a problem with the unit you still gave it a good review. I want to help you help you with your issue. It's unfortunate if you think the "Product" is a huge disappointment. On the contrary, there are lots of very satisfied customers that are having positive experience using the product. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, the issue with the product is an isolated case. ASUS provides warranty for the product in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect. 3 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: ASUS PCE-N15 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express 300/300Mbps Transfer/Receive Rate 64-bit WEP, 128-bit WEP, WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK, WPS support

Pros: Works well when it works. I have had my own for a few years and it works just fine.
Other than an unfortunate DOA on the second purchase, they work fine.
Replacement works, at least.

Cons: Bought a second one and it was Dead on Arrival. Asus doesn't pay for replacement shipping, so that was pretty lame. If you have to replace it, don't use fedex or UPS. They're too expensive for this cheap of an item. Just use USPS.
