5 out of 5 eggsAdds wireless to a desktop

Pros: Easy way to add wireless to a desktop without opening up the case. Twice the speed of the old N adapter it replaced.

Cons: USB does not fit as snug as my old adapter, but it stays in place so I wont take off an egg

1 out of 5 eggsFollow up from Asus

Pros: None

Cons: Non-functional

Other Thoughts: This is a follow up review after being contacted by Asus a customer loyalty agent in response to my previous 1 star rating.

Asus agent contacted me in response to my 1 star product review. After exchanging 20 emails to "resolve" my issue, the agent had me mail in my product for RMA. Upon arrival of product, I followed up with my agent who responded that it had been already repaired and is in wait status and reassured me no further communication from me is necessary.

2 weeks later, I receive a email from another Asus agent demanding a $50 bill.

Product was purchased for $10...

Follow up with first agent tells me to contact 2nd agent via phone number provided. I call, speak to four different Asus agents unable to reach 2nd agent. Problem is unresolved, product is out of my hands and now have a $50 bill for a $10 product.

4 out of 5 eggsadapter works, accessories dont

Pros: works out of the box, both windows xp and 7. signal strength varies less than old laptop's built-in wifi. signal isnt any stronger, but does seem to drop out less often comparatively. includes a usb extender cable, which is stiff and will hold whichever shape you bend it to.

driver utility software provides a wealth of info about the wireless connection, has diagnostic functions, can scan for other APs in the area and can save different connection profiles

Cons: usb extender cable appears to not work at all. either mis-wired, or has a loose connection. doesnt work with the wireless adapter, doesnt work with flash drives or other usb devices lying around.
this is too bad, because the usb-n13 is a bit thicker than your average thumb drive or usb plug, and WILL block adjacent ports.

Other Thoughts: router only goes up to G, so cant try it out at N speeds. drivers were a bit finicky to install on xp, (used the Version 4.3.1.0 utility package from the asus site).
a [working] usb extender is a must-have with this unit if you have two usb ports stacked vertically next to each other.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on arrival

Pros: None

Cons: Dead on arrival

Other Thoughts: I received this item, installed the drivers, it was recognized , but wouldn't hold a wireless signal. I RMA'd it, and received a replacement from newegg. However the replacement wouldn't even be recognized anymore despite numerous attempts to uninstall/reinstall drivers.

5 out of 5 eggs2nd One

Pros: This is my second one after my first one died. For 10$ i dont expect them to last to long, but my last one lasted 3 years. Good pickup distance.

Cons: Besides it stoped working completely after 3 years, but i only paid a few bucks so i cant complain.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked right out of the box.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: My connection started to slow down a bit. Maybe it's getting older.

There is a button on the adapter. I don't know what it is for.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked right when I plugged it in. I am running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and it found wireless networks immediately.

I am on second floor of my house while my router is downstairs on the other side of the house and I am getting full signal.

Cons: The version I got is "B1" which is not specified here but it says so on the USB stick. I believe the wrong driver is included because when I installed it and the utility, the USB stick was not recognized anymore. I checked on ASUS website and they have separate drivers for the B1 version and the prior version does not support Windows 8.

Anyhow, all of these different drivers ended up breaking my device recognition and connection. I uninstalled the ASUS drivers and utility and Windows handled it just fine. I subtracted an egg because of the poor software but the device itself works great!
