2 out of 5 eggsWork...ed

This review is from: ASUS USB-N53 Dual Band (2.4GHz 300Mbps/5GHz 300Mbps) Wireless-N USB Adapter, Graphical Easy Interface, Live Signal Monitor

Pros: Nice looking utility
Sleek design
Bendable usb extension

Cons: Stopped working after a few days

Other Thoughts: It was really nice as it was actually working, and I am using the asus RT-N56U, where it states that it is best combined with this adapter. I connected it onto my Surface Pro 3, Win 8.1, and it was fine, but it didn't allow the tablet to sleep, so, I needed to unplug it when I wanted to turn it off (sleep). Last night, I unplugged it like normal (as in just 3 days having the device) and now in the morning, it can connect with multiple routers, BUT there is no internet connect possible. When I disable the adapter, and re-enable the native wireless on the Surface, and I connect to the same router, I get internet. I have tried multiple things, uninstalling the driver, re-installing the driver/utility, trying to reset the router/modem and restarting the computer hoping to refresh things, but to no avail. It might still work but with another computer, but if the same scenario is going to happen, then I won't even bother.

It's a good adapter, but maybe not so suitable w/ a Surface Pro 3.

3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't detect 5G

This review is from: ASUS USB-N53 Dual Band (2.4GHz 300Mbps/5GHz 300Mbps) Wireless-N USB Adapter, Graphical Easy Interface, Live Signal Monitor

Pros: Easy to install.
Slim
Low Profile
USB extender

I got my N53 refurbished from newegg and it works great, does exactly what it needs it to. I purchased this though to connect to a 5g broadcast and this thing doesn't even pick up the signal. Also the Asus manager is clunky and a pain so i don't even bother installing it.

Cons: Doesn't connect to 5G
clunky manager

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsI will let you know if it gets here

This review is from: ASUS USB-N53 Dual Band (2.4GHz 300Mbps/5GHz 300Mbps) Wireless-N USB Adapter, Graphical Easy Interface, Live Signal Monitor

Pros: We will see.

Cons: It seems to be lost.

Other Thoughts: It's been a week since ordering. Tracking says its at the post office in Jasper, GA. Do I need to move to GA to get it? I don't really want to move to another state.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat with the right drivers

This review is from: ASUS USB-N53 Dual Band (2.4GHz 300Mbps/5GHz 300Mbps) Wireless-N USB Adapter, Graphical Easy Interface, Live Signal Monitor

Pros: This is a very reliable USB wireless adapter. WIth a good signal it does reach it's advertised speed.

Cons: Drivers on ASUS's website are very old.

Other Thoughts: I was having an issue where the latency would suddenly shoot up to exactly 1000 ms, and stay there until I reconnected. The latest drivers from ASUS were over a couple years old, but after some research I found that underneath it's actually an Ralink adapter and found some much newer Ralink drivers, and now it works flawlessly. I'm not 100% sure if the drivers fixed it, it's likely, but I was also messing with the router at the time trying to fix the issue, although I never noticed the issue with any other wireless device. I'll still dock it an egg for ASUS not updating their drivers.

This adapter is fairly large for being a USB "stick". Pretty big to be sticking into the side of a laptop. I use it on a desktop, connected to a 12' USB extension to place it where the signal is better.

5 out of 5 eggsStrong & Fast signal

This review is from: ASUS USB-N53 Dual Band (2.4GHz 300Mbps/5GHz 300Mbps) Wireless-N USB Adapter, Graphical Easy Interface, Live Signal Monitor

Pros: Runs fast & stable. The bendable antenna allows you to move it for best signal as it is not obscured by the mass (shadow) of the metal in the laptop / PC, allowing a better signal strength.

Cons: Initial setup can be time consuming. Get the latest software before you start.

Other Thoughts: It works & is stable.
Initial setup can be a little intimidating if you are not network experienced; take your time and do your homework - aka - read the instructions.

5 out of 5 eggsSet it and forget it

This review is from: ASUS USB-N53 Dual Band (2.4GHz 300Mbps/5GHz 300Mbps) Wireless-N USB Adapter, Graphical Easy Interface, Live Signal Monitor

Pros: Plug it in and play. Very easy to use. No problems after three months of ownership. Used it on a HP Workstation running Windows 7. ASUS makes quality stuff in my book. Solid performance.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Used this product for a small business computer needing to connect to the internet for basic web browsing and email checking.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus USB-n53

This review is from: ASUS USB-N53 Dual Band (2.4GHz 300Mbps/5GHz 300Mbps) Wireless-N USB Adapter, Graphical Easy Interface, Live Signal Monitor

Pros: This thing is simple easy to set up and just flat out works. I was using a TP link wifi adapter before this and it wouldnt stay connected for more then an hour or so without totally losing signal. Between my pc and the router there are 3 walls and a utility closet full of metal stuff including a giant roll around tool box. This thing stays connected perfectly in 5ghz and stays maxed at 300Mbps. I cant say enough good about how well it works. It picks up 8 wifi signals from my house even though the homes here are fairly well spaced and surrounded by trees.

Cons: It is not tiny like some of the 2.4ghz only adapters on the market. I wouldnt want to have this sticking out of a tiny netbook or something. But for a desktop pc its perfect.

Other Thoughts: Just get it it works well and is a good brand and the price is decent.
