5 out of 5 eggsAll Good In The Hood

Pros: Fast shipping from Newegg...Great little switch for the price, plugs right in - no config needed.

Cons: Power cable is a little short, IMO. Documentation is lacking but I don't see a real need for it. Should be clearer info regarding the link lights. Amber = 1000Mbps, Green = 100 or 10Mbps

Other Thoughts: I read a review stating the switch only allows gigabit throughput on Cat6 wire which doesn't appear to be true, at least not with this 2nd version of the switch. I tested this theory with a gigabit RT-AC1750 router, HP Pavilon 23 desktop, and a HP Pavilian dv5 laptop. All are connected via Cat5e. The router and desktop ports' link lights are Amber = 1000Mbps and the link light for the laptop with the NIC set at 100 is blinking Green = 100Mbps.

5 out of 5 eggsworks as advertized

Pros: FAST, compact, reliable, auto-crossover, jumbo frame support, and VIP port all work as advertized. Wall-mountable. Great performance with all ports in use, on a very high-traffic, mostly gigabit network.

Cons: Not flat/stackable.

Other Thoughts: Used the VIP port for DVD-burning PC that pulls the ISO disc images off other network PCs on the fly -- no more buffer underruns during heavy traffic!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Swtich

Pros: Works as advertised. Amber light = 1GB; Green light = 100mb. Connection from router to switch = Amber; 2 Roku media streamers and 1 MagicJack VoIP = Green; 2nd computer = Amber. VIP port is best used for VoIP according to ASUS website, as that port gets priority over all others when traffic is heavy.

Cons: None, unless color can be considered a con. My modem and router are both black, so I kind of wish the switch was too, but not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: I almost bought a different brand switch until I noticed the buffer memory was about 4 times higher with the ASUS switches.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Seemed to speed up my network

Cons: VIP port seems to lock up the switch when anything is plugged into it.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it's supposed to.

Pros: Does what it's supposed to right out of the box with zero configuration.

Cons: As other reviews mention, the fact that the AMBER light indicates the higher speed is counterintuitive and takes some getting used to. Probably not the best design decision, but it doesn't affect functionality (i.e., the lights appear to display appropriately).

Other Thoughts: No complaints other than mildly confusing link light color choices.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother ASUS switch V2

Pros: Had some other brand fail 3 days after it arrived. This ASUS switch works well like the other ASUS switches I have purchased over the years (D-Link)

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Don't mess around with other brand names - they will fail when you least expect.

4 out of 5 eggsASUS- It works.

Pros: It works.

Cons: The LEDs are crazy/misleading - in what universe is amber faster than green? Thanks to a previous reviewer here (ergodit?) for pointing that out.
The printed 'Instructions' are in 50 languages but give very little info. What's the VIP port? LED colours? etc

Other Thoughts: I was replacing a (good) ASUS 100 hub which looks very similar. If you are doing this (not likely) make sure you use the power adapter that comes with your new hub - it's not the same voltage as some older ASUS hubs (9v vs 12v). The concept of standardization/consistency is a bit old-fashioned, I guess........(so much for using the old adapter as a spare).

5 out of 5 eggsIt just works

Pros: This one worked as expected without any issues when it was plugged in the first time.

Throughput tests hit very good numbers approaching the maximum theoretical speed of gigabit ethernet.

Cons: Lights are a bit lame. (Orange = gig, Green = 100meg, Blink = activity). I would have prefered smaller indicators for the speed.

I also wish it were a different color too.

Other Thoughts: I needed a new switch after my old one died after 8 years of 24x7 service. I'm not sure how long this one will last but for the price it seems to be a fairly good deal for an 8 port gigabit switch.

I'm not sure how well the power save feature works -- I didn't see any time changes on the UPS on battery with all ports occupied with activity versus the switch itself unplugged.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: I bought this to replace a piece of junk Netgear switch that lasted about a month before it refused to connect any faster than 10 mbps. Even when it worked it was half baked in the way it functioned.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: This came highly recommended to me by those in the know.
