  • newegg Gigabit Internet Surfing with Hardware NAT Equipped with a capable hardware NAT acceleration engine and built-in Gigabit Ethernet, it gives you full Gigabit internet performance, making its WAN to LAN throughput up to 2-5 times that of traditional software-based NAT Gigabit routers.
  • newegg Powerful Online Multitasking at up to 300,000 Data Sessions Support for a massive data pipeline of up to 300,000 data sessions means the RT-N56U has around 20 times the networking capacity of other high session routers, so multiple data transfer jobs don’t slow down even during heavy load.
  • newegg Ai Radar This unique and efficient design drastically increases wireless signal coverage and quality without increasing power consumption. 2 out of 5 eggsMaybe I lucked out

Pros: My first router without an antennae. When it's working it was perfect. Easy to setup and GUI/menu were pretty straight forward.

Cons: However! I would lose connection on a few of my wireless devices and have to keep resetting the ROUTER (firmware is up to date).

The 5ghz is pretty useless as I'm barely able to connect to it for more than 1hr without it crapping out or losing connection and me having to reset or reconnect.

The wireless range the worst of the 5 routers I had in the past. I'm not new to this. I couldn't even get a signal just 1 floor below me and when I do it's 2-3 bars.

I would have to reset the router every couple times a day to get it connecting right with other wireless devices.

I'm willing to give Asus 1 last chance, I'll be getting the RT-AC66U and see how that fare. But all I know is, I will never buy another router without antennae again.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Router

Pros: Great throughput, gigabit lan, slick interface, lots of options, attractive, good range.

Cons: The firmware that shipped wasn't great, but the update is great.

Other Thoughts: This is an outstanding router, I've seen throughput over 50 Mb to the WAN without an issue, and file transfers on the LAN are lightning fast. Wireless connectivity is great with good range, but iOS devices had problems before the firmware update. I've had as many as 5 HD streams throughout my house on a mix of wired and wireless connections without a hiccup. This is a solid router.

3 out of 5 eggsASUS RT-N56U - disappointing

Pros: Dual band router. Basic functionality seems to work. Seems to have pretty good range on both bands. Good value for a low priced dual band router.

Cons: GUI is disappointing. URL filtering is limited. Logging is weak. Does not log URL blocks, only port blocks. Log is hard to read. Cannot get it to send logs to SNMP server. Cannot get IPv6 to work reliably, and not sure I would trust it if I did. Ability to block ports and services in firewall is weak. Does not support common alternate firmware. Documentation is very poor, both in the manual and online.

Other Thoughts: While the price is good, I would take a pass on this one unless you want just a basic router.

Search around on the web to find some tips and tricks about configuring it. Be sure to upgrade to the latest firmware. Apparently a lot of bugs have been fixed in the latest release.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Dual Band
Fast
USB
Tons of Settings
Sleek aesthetics

Cons: Easy to knock over
Kind of cheapy plastic
First one didn't work

Other Thoughts: I had to jump through hoops with Newegg to get a working one. The first time I have ever had issues with Newegg customer service. However, now that I (finally) got it back, and it works, it works like a charm. No issues at all.
I purchase this because my combination router/modem from the cable company is a piece of junk, and it is just what I needed. Lots of settings, USB, Gigabit, dual band, wireless N.
