1 out of 5 eggsAtrocious speeds and Customer Support

Pros: - it connects to the internet

Cons: - speeds are horrendous. 4 mbps download and non-existent upload.
- customer support is ridiculously bad
- driver install is overly complicated, and the drivers are very poorly written

Other Thoughts: To expand on previous Cons:
I installed through the given method of installing drivers first then plugging in card, and it connected initially. With the initial drivers the speeds are extremely bad (4 mbps down no up), and this is compared to my usb card which I get 100mbps down and 80 mbps upload. Using the suggestion in the top critical review, I tried to install the realtek drivers for the card. They also work, but give no speed benefit (still at 4 mbps and very spotty connection).
info: windows 10 64 bit, tried over both 2.4 and 5 ghz connections.
BOTTOM LINE
Even with the rebate, the headache of this card is not worth the cheap price. DO NOT BUY!!!

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable and slow on Windows 10 64

Pros: Price after rebate was very alluring

Cons: - Slow upload and download speeds
- Continuously drops and reconnects

Other Thoughts: I read the other reviews, but decided to buy this product anyway. I downloaded and installed the software from ASUS before installing the card into my computer, like the document in the box said to do. When I turned the computer back on, everything seemed fine. But after a few minutes, I noticed that the low resolution videos that play before Microsoft games were stuttering. This was very unusual; this never happened with my old USB adapter. Then I started running speed tests and found that I was getting very poor download speeds and practically no upload speed. I thought the problem was with my cable Internet provider, but every other wired and wireless device on my network was performing perfectly. It didn't matter if I used 2G or 5G; the results were very poor. And the one feature that I wanted to work - wireless display to my Roku - connected, but updated the screen once every 10 to 20 seconds. It was completely unusable. I tried reinstalling drivers. I even tried removing the driver and the hardware and starting over. Nothing would make it work fast and reliably. I'm sending it back today.

1 out of 5 eggsReview edited, eggs removed

Pros: Good price

Cons: Choppy performance, excessive bufferbloat

Other Thoughts: Even after uninstalling the offensive monitoring software, the performance was uneven. Speed test results were mostly unimpressive and browser experience was clearly being impacted. I can only imagine how bad this would be for gamers. After verifying that hard cabled performance was good I bought a competing wireless product and it's like night and day better. Can't recommend this device, months of fiddling with it and it still couldn't do a decent job.

5 out of 5 eggsAgain non techs drag down the rating of an awesome piece of equipment

Pros: Extremely fast data speeds, very easy to install

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I've seen so many people bashing this product because they couldn't seem to read the installation instructions. It clearly says to install software before inserting the card into the slot. All you have to do is run the software install package. Then shut down, insert your card and start up. Done deal. I received max connection speeds in tandem with a wireless N router. Paid $37.99 with a $20 rebate. Can't beat it!

1 out of 5 eggsDon't even bother

Pros: -Decent speed when it's working

Cons: -Connection drops intermittently
-RMA process long and tedious

Other Thoughts: Much like my last relationship, its great when its working but makes you absolutely miserable when its not. Don't bother with these, they're absolute trash. Maybe I just got a lemon, but based on other reviews here it seems like it is not an isolated incident.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with Windows 10

Pros: Contrary to what other people are saying about this adapter, this does work with Windows 10. The best way to get it working is to install it with the driver installation disk before you install it. Then configure your network settings. After this go to "device manager", "network adapters", right click on the one indicating this adapter, and select "update driver software." Windows will then ask you if you want to install from a location on the hard disk or for Windows to automatically search online for the update. The latter being what I chose and it only took it a minute or so to download and install the update.

If you do not do this step, you can only expect 10 Mbps download speed. After the update, I was getting > 50Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload speed.

Cons: The green looks kind of ugly in my custom build which is red and black.

Other Thoughts: The bottom line is this is an excellent adapter. For everybody having problems with it, they simply were not following the instructions that it came with for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. It will only be fast if you update the driver but that is routine maintenance on any computer system.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage. Have a great day!

Pros: Asus marketing exploiting what was once a good company

Cons: Garbage. Won't install onto win8 and win10 hates it just as much

Other Thoughts: They will reply here (with case #) yet not reply to the email. Garbage company putting out trash that is well marketed.

1 out of 5 eggsTERIIBLE

Pros: NONE!

Cons: DO NOT ORDER THIS ADAPTER. Wireless connection speeds do not exceed 10Mbs up or down even on 5g.

Contacted ASUS support and after 1 hour of updating drivers and re-installing utilities. Asus finally admitted that this adapter is slow and I should upgrade to a better adapter. They recommended the PCE-AC68 at over $100!!!

my old USB D-link got 45Mbs!

THIS IS RUBBISH DO NOT USE THIS ITEM

5 out of 5 eggsCheap dual band action

Pros: Crazy cheap after the rebate card, really there's absolutely no reason NOT to buy it if you're having doubts about your connection reliability.

Cons: It cannot connect to 5GHz and 2.4GHz at the same time. Pretty standard but I didn't know.

3 out of 5 eggsWindows 8 hates this card.

Pros: None that stick out. It's a dual band wireless card. I've worked with a lot of them in my day, this one is nothing special.

Cons: Bit of a story for this. I ordered this for a client, who is also a friend, for a new build we were putting together. She ordered a copy of Windows 8 on sale with the intention of upgrading to windows 10 and saving a few bucks off buying 10 straight out. Once I got the build together and got it past POST I thought we were in the clear. Nope.

Windows 8, HATES this card. I have no idea why.

During the install of the OS we got a random blue screen error right around the "Installing Devices" screen. I removed everything non essential from the PC and then tried installing the OS again. Once it was on the system, I added in the removed parts, one-by-one and rebooted the machine to see if I ran into any issues. Once I came to this card and started up the machine, I got to the desktop and then another blue screen. I tested it repeatedly, reinstalling Windows a few times on a test bench and added it to the machine pre and post installation a few times each. Windows 8 HATES this card and kicked back an blue screen every single time it was present in the PC while 8 was installed or trying to install.

Other Thoughts: One the bright side, once we did the upgrade to Windows 10, the card worked fine and was detected by the OS, which installed all the driver software automatically.

That's also something I'm on the fence about. Windows 10 picks this card up and installs the drivers automatically, which is great, but because of this ASUS does not offer a Win 10 driver on their site for this product. You literally get linked to a PDF telling you that Win 10 should do it by itself. Maybe I'm just old school, but the ability to reinstall drivers should a problem arise is something I like.

I give the card a 3 because of all the difficulty working with Windows 8, but once we got it installed on the Win 10 system it works like a gem, so I didn't want to give it too harsh a review.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Amy,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS wireless adapter. Please allow me to assist you.

It's good to know that the adapter is working properly now, when you are experiencing issues with windows 8 was there any error message? or you are only experiencing random blue screen? there is also driver's made for windows 8 to fix issues that you will encounter with the adapter but nevertheless the adapter is working now.
