3 out of 5 eggssluggish

Pros: cheap
when it works, it works really well................when it works

Cons: connection sometimes drops so low to the point where it freezes the entire computer.
I have a laptop with a native wifi card right next to my desktop, and it gets a much more reliable wifi signal than this card does

Other Thoughts: Save your money and get a better card, otherwise you'll be replacing in 6 months.

3 out of 5 eggsaddendum to 7-24-15

Pros: I am much happier with this purchase now that I got it able to achieve my full internet speeds. I have ATT 18Mps service and Speedtest now consistently gives 20-22Mbps since I switched the router to 40Mhz on 2.4gHz.. Not sure why that is needed when in both instances I supposedly had a 144Mbs link to the router.
Uverse router doesn't offer 5gHz or I would have tried that.

Cons: Shouldn't have to put my router on 40Mhz channel frequency since none of my other devices needed that to obtain 20Mbps internet. What if I was running a LAN since I struggled to get 20Mbps.... also I only have a 144Mbps connection for some reason even though it should be 300. But I am not using LAN really, so I probably won't waste any time solving that.

Other Thoughts: Running much snappier overall now. I'd give it 5 stars for the price I paid (once I receive rebate)!! 7 bucks they were practically giving them away. Newegg rocks

PS. I had already tried the ASUS customer service suggestions, they are pretty basic.

Pros: Works great on Windows 10 with the Windows 8.1 drivers from the ASUS website or built in drivers from Windows 10!

1 out of 5 eggsuseless

Pros: none

Cons: extreme low speed.

Other Thoughts: All negative reviews are true. Save yourself the frustration.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jun,

Thank you for taking the time to communicate to us why our ASUS products did not meet your expectations. Please accept our sincerest apology for any trouble or inconvenience, we have caused you. Let me go ahead and further assist you. That's why you encountered the disconnection from the internet due to interference. Elevate your router away from floors. You’ll get better reception if the router is on a desk, not on the floor. You should also pay attention to the kinds of materials the router is near. For example, placing the router on a metal desk or up against a metal wall will cause problems. Signals can travel through a wood desk easily, but metal will obstruct the signals. This is the examples appliances can cause wireless interference, including cordless phones, baby monitors, and microwave ovens.

Please try these steps for resolution:
Step 1. Please try to reseat the unit to different slot or you may uninstall and reinstall the driver.
Step 2 - Please try to download the driver on our website at support.asus.com. You may also try to uninstall and reinstall the driver.
Step 3 - Adjust the placement of your router. Simply adjusting the placement and orientation of the wireless router may improve the 2.4GHz and 5GHz signal strength.
Step 4. Adjust the antennas on the router. Try adjusting the antennas to achieve the best performance of your 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.

2 out of 5 eggsSlow

Pros: Cheap. Easy install. Seems to be reliable so far

Cons: Slow. Can't even achieve my full internet speed and this is with junky ATT Uverse 18Mbps. Consistently only gets about 10-11Mbps with speedtest.net, whereas my phone can get 17Mbps in the exact same location under my desk. This is a small house with open floorplan and it's only about 15ft from the router.

Other Thoughts: Dirt cheap with the rebate, so I don't have much to complain about. I'd be upset if I paid $49 for this at a local computer retailer starting with M though. Probably would have returned it.
This is making me wish I put the router in my office so I could have kept the wired connection I had with Comcast which gave me GREATER than the speed I paid for.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Has duel band and performs very quickly even on Win 10

Cons: Having two antennas can get in the way of wires at the back of computer.

Other Thoughts: The antennas need to be rotatable and not come off it is annoying when you have to move it to plug in something and it fall off.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh, it's not the best

Pros: It's not sixty dollars, like the next level wifi card
That's... about it?

Cons: Well... I have a $15 usb 2.0 dongle that manages the same speeds as this thing at the same range. Sad.
Apparently not proportionate in performance to the price of the pce-ac56

Other Thoughts: I guess if you just want a card that looks good, get this. Otherwise, (if you have the money, of course) get the pce-ac56

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Eric,

I want to thank you for posting this review and I understand that you have an issue with your adapter. We apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused you but let me go ahead and further assist you. 3 out of 5 eggswhat a let down

Pros: it will work as intended.

Cons: it is sluggish on either band

Other Thoughts: have this in my htpc, along with my old Linksys Wireless-N300 ( which was bought in 2011 ). no matter how i configure them, running solo on either band, or bridged the old out dated n-300 constantly pulls twice the speeds of this card. the really bad part is i can't find drivers for the old n-300 so it's using stock win 8.1 drivers and still beating up on this card??? and for on last really moment i have a ASUS RT-N66U router so you'd think the asus card would be designed to run it best with other asus products

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible on Windows 8/8.1

Pros: On older Windows OS, it's a very fast and reliable card.

Cons: Barely works in WIndow 8/8.1 without using odd drivers that sometimes trigger BSOD.

Other Thoughts: It's a fine card if you aren't running Windows 8/8.1, but ASUS has been absolutely atrocious with supporting their drivers. I'm not sure why they've gone so far downhill the past few years.
