3 out of 5 eggsworks when it works

Pros: Easy Install, very space efficient
Connects to the Internet
Dual Band
Extremely cheap
Very good range

Cons: Frequently on a reboot it will not be recognized which is only fixed by more reboots.
Antenna's are kind of annoying if you're frequently behind your case messing with cables.

Other Thoughts: I can't say I've measured my up and down recently but it was good enough to play games on (Diablo III for ex). The circumstances I ordered it for were 2nd level of a home with a dual band ASUS N router in the basement. It worked well for the time that I needed it especially at the price I got it for ~$15. Circumstances have changed so I don't rely on this card anymore. I would only recommend this card if you're ok rolling the dice. Basically you get what you pay for.

Running Win 7, ASUS P55 mobo, Intel i5 2.6 ghz lynnfield

4 out of 5 eggsWhat You See is What You Get

Pros: Dual Band. Cheap. Easy to Install. Asus, which for me means quality.

Cons: Not top of the line.

Other Thoughts: Windows 10: install driver from CD. Install the adapter. Update driver. Bingo! You've got dual band.

2 out of 5 eggsNot really up to Asus standards

Pros: Asus makes some really great stuff, but this isn't one of them. It was cheap, and dual band, but not reliable.

Cons: It would intermittently drop the internet connection on 2.4 ghz, and then it dropped it altogether . Contacting Asus support put me through to somebody in the Caribbean. No matter what company it is, overseas tech support is terrible. Terrible every time, no exceptions. Why companies even bother is beyond me. Almost an hour to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. No change. Slow speeds, dropped connections. Tech guy said that the Media Tek driver was the wrong one, but that's exactly what they had on their website, so he had no clue about what his product specified. Like I said, overseas tech support is terrible. Every time, no exceptions.

Other Thoughts: There are better products by Asus, and there are better wireless cards. Avoid this and get something good.

1 out of 5 eggsAtrocious speeds and Customer Support

Pros: - it connects to the internet

Cons: - speeds are horrendous. 4 mbps download and non-existent upload.
- customer support is ridiculously bad
- driver install is overly complicated, and the drivers are very poorly written

Other Thoughts: To expand on previous Cons:
I installed through the given method of installing drivers first then plugging in card, and it connected initially. With the initial drivers the speeds are extremely bad (4 mbps down no up), and this is compared to my usb card which I get 100mbps down and 80 mbps upload. Using the suggestion in the top critical review, I tried to install the realtek drivers for the card. They also work, but give no speed benefit (still at 4 mbps and very spotty connection).
info: windows 10 64 bit, tried over both 2.4 and 5 ghz connections.
BOTTOM LINE
Even with the rebate, the headache of this card is not worth the cheap price. DO NOT BUY!!!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ken,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS wireless adapter. Please allow me to assist you.

I know that you are disappointed with the wireless adapter, how is the unit now? may I know the steps that you have tried to try to troubleshoot the adapter? Please try the following suggestions below to try to fix the connection issue.

1. Try different port on the computer or power cycle the computer
2. Uninstall and reinstall the driver with its support disk then power cycle the computer; (or do no.3 first)
3. or, download and install the latest network adapter driver then power cycle the computer (or do no.2 first)
4. Check its compatibility with the router and/or distance from it
5. Check the main router's firmware if updated
6. Compare other wireless devices if they are having same issue/s
7. Check its compatibility with the computer's Operating System, AntiVirus and Firewall
8. Use different computer for comparison and follow again the steps above.
9. and, if it replicates the issue, get RMA approval.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable and slow on Windows 10 64

Pros: Price after rebate was very alluring

Cons: - Slow upload and download speeds
- Continuously drops and reconnects

Other Thoughts: I read the other reviews, but decided to buy this product anyway. I downloaded and installed the software from ASUS before installing the card into my computer, like the document in the box said to do. When I turned the computer back on, everything seemed fine. But after a few minutes, I noticed that the low resolution videos that play before Microsoft games were stuttering. This was very unusual; this never happened with my old USB adapter. Then I started running speed tests and found that I was getting very poor download speeds and practically no upload speed. I thought the problem was with my cable Internet provider, but every other wired and wireless device on my network was performing perfectly. It didn't matter if I used 2G or 5G; the results were very poor. And the one feature that I wanted to work - wireless display to my Roku - connected, but updated the screen once every 10 to 20 seconds. It was completely unusable. I tried reinstalling drivers. I even tried removing the driver and the hardware and starting over. Nothing would make it work fast and reliably. I'm sending it back today.

1 out of 5 eggsReview edited, eggs removed

Pros: Good price

Cons: Choppy performance, excessive bufferbloat

Other Thoughts: Even after uninstalling the offensive monitoring software, the performance was uneven. Speed test results were mostly unimpressive and browser experience was clearly being impacted. I can only imagine how bad this would be for gamers. After verifying that hard cabled performance was good I bought a competing wireless product and it's like night and day better. Can't recommend this device, months of fiddling with it and it still couldn't do a decent job.

5 out of 5 eggsAgain non techs drag down the rating of an awesome piece of equipment

Pros: Extremely fast data speeds, very easy to install

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I've seen so many people bashing this product because they couldn't seem to read the installation instructions. It clearly says to install software before inserting the card into the slot. All you have to do is run the software install package. Then shut down, insert your card and start up. Done deal. I received max connection speeds in tandem with a wireless N router. Paid $37.99 with a $20 rebate. Can't beat it!

1 out of 5 eggsDon't even bother

Pros: -Decent speed when it's working

Cons: -Connection drops intermittently
-RMA process long and tedious

Other Thoughts: Much like my last relationship, its great when its working but makes you absolutely miserable when its not. Don't bother with these, they're absolute trash. Maybe I just got a lemon, but based on other reviews here it seems like it is not an isolated incident.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with Windows 10

Pros: Contrary to what other people are saying about this adapter, this does work with Windows 10. The best way to get it working is to install it with the driver installation disk before you install it. Then configure your network settings. After this go to "device manager", "network adapters", right click on the one indicating this adapter, and select "update driver software." Windows will then ask you if you want to install from a location on the hard disk or for Windows to automatically search online for the update. The latter being what I chose and it only took it a minute or so to download and install the update.

If you do not do this step, you can only expect 10 Mbps download speed. After the update, I was getting > 50Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload speed.

Cons: The green looks kind of ugly in my custom build which is red and black.

Other Thoughts: The bottom line is this is an excellent adapter. For everybody having problems with it, they simply were not following the instructions that it came with for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. It will only be fast if you update the driver but that is routine maintenance on any computer system.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage. Have a great day!

Pros: Asus marketing exploiting what was once a good company

Cons: Garbage. Won't install onto win8 and win10 hates it just as much

Other Thoughts: They will reply here (with case #) yet not reply to the email. Garbage company putting out trash that is well marketed.

Manufacturer Response:
