5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong, bought another

Pros: I purchased this originally more than 2 years ago (my first post is below) but I love this thing and has not missed a beat! I bought a second for my parents house and they live off of this thing. The one I have at my house has about 25 devices connected (we are device fatigued millennials), and this includes all the new gen systems, idevices, windows, mac, NAS, wifi printer, surveillance system, HDhomerun Prime,8 port switch and it has never had an issue. I usually move a 1gb movie in about 30 seconds (over wifi). Wired is less than 30sec per Gb. Also I love the Asus port forwarding service, never an issue as i FTPS constantly.

Cons: It tips over very easy, but it is how it is shaped, it stands right up, so whenever connecting or unconnecting it physically falls over. The firmwares are hit and miss, i notice about every other version is glitchy. I enter web interface on the last firmware update and whenever i refresh my devices it kills my connection to the interface and won't work again until i restart the router? On positive note they fixed this in last update.

Other Thoughts: Asus did a good job with this, for $60 find me something better...New firmware shows resources and shows processor load and memory allocations etc. I am entrenched in the asus world of networking as I am so used to their UI. 5 GHZ screams speed, so I only connect my laptops to this, and mobile devices get the 2.4 GHZ. This plays very nice with macs and bounjor, ddns works like a charm, smb, dnla all the normal stuff just works, GREAT WORK ASUS.

1 out of 5 eggsArrived DOA

Pros: Looks alright

Cons: Arrived DOA, would not reset or boot waste of my time I wouldn't trust their "refurb process" if this is how they ship. Packaging, including manual and cd case, was torn and damaged including previous owners passwords written all over the manual.

Other Thoughts: Don't bother.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsGood when it works

Pros: Runs great most of the time. Has the capability of handling four devices simultaneously without lag at 7 mbps.

Cons: Requires frequent (daily) restarts in order to function properly. Internet will stop functioning at random and will not work until unplugged or restarted.

Other Thoughts: Would still purchase again if I had the choice but wish I could fix, reduce, or at least explain the need for so many restarts.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: -Love the look. almost looks like art rather than a router so you don't have to worry about aesthetics for placement in your home
-Gigabit Speeds
-Dual Band great if you live in apartment complexes were their is constant wireless interference.
-Software is intuitive and easy to use for beginners

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Could not get the USB connection to work for my Dell printer but I'm sure it was an issue with the printer rather than the router

4 out of 5 eggsGood choice if price is right

Pros: I bought my n65u as a refurb for $85. For that price, I'm really digging it. If I wanted to spend more, the n66u would have been a better option. However, the 65u rocks as a middle of the road option.

Why do I like this puppy even when others haven't given it much love?

Great signal coverage and range. My 65u resides in my basement, but I still get great reception on my second floor. Full strength and speed.

It's fast. Wireless is no longer my network bottleneck.

Several guest networks can be set up from the same device. Initial checks seems to confirm that the guest nets are indeed isolated from my intranet.

Good interface and config options. The 65u comes with some pretty useful parental content filtering options.

Cons: I took away one egg for some initial config problems. I had to factory reset my router before being able to get through the initial config.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far!

Pros: Super easy to set up
Firmware updates were easy
5GHZ range is good 2.4GHZ is great
wifi speeds were over 300mbps
worth the $$
lots of extras (usb 3, media server vpn)

Cons: Not cheap (but worth it)

Other Thoughts: Have owned for a week and not a problem yet. My moron girlfriend unplugged it while doing a firmware update...not a problem though as it reverted back to previous version. This thing is fast, I am coming from an airport extreme 2nd gen (2007), I figured it was time for an upgrade, and I purchased this refurbished. So far speeds are about 3 times as fast, range is almost double. I have an xbox 360 and ps3 both wired (all cat 6) powerline ethernet for my mac pro upstairs (bonjour works great btw). a few N laptops and ipads and iPhones (2 of each), and a nas in the basement No lag what so ever, everything works flawlessly. I do huge back up jobs at night and you would never know. I did a few speedynet tests and through wifi I got 160 mbps consistantly (airport extreme got about 30 on a good day) through wifi.
