1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware!!!

Pros: NONE! Piece of junk router. Always dropped wifi connection. And yes I have the latest Firmware, even tried the latest Merlin firmware with the same results, always loosing Wifi Connection (signal).

Cons: Always dropping Wifi connection (signal). Newegg refuses to support any issues and Asus has the worst support ever. I will never buy another Asus Product again!

Other Thoughts: I will never buy another product from Newegg or Asus again! Worst Companies for support when buying a product from them.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear David,

Thank your for your time in posting a review about our products. On behalf of ASUS, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Have your tried changing the channel bandwidth or control channel of the router to try to fix the issue? For further assistance, please email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and place the case #N150705331 in the subject line for a reference.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best regards,
Jerry A

4 out of 5 eggsMy experience has been positive

Pros: Many options, including dual-band capability and the ability to set up guest SSID's, so your friends can have Internet access without access to your home network.
Frequent updates to the firmware are available, so support is ongoing, even for this older model.

Cons: Support up to wireless-N, does not support wireless AC standard.
Detection of updates to firmware by the router are not solid. If I don't see an update offered after login as admin, I'll go the ASUS web site to check. Sometimes there is an update the router did not offer. Download and installation of the updates is NOT a problem.
Has only USB 2.0 ports instead of the faster USB 3.0.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this router from Newegg as a refurb, and have had good results with it. I have had NO hardware failures and everything I received has worked well.
As with anything technology-related, speed is everything. This is not the fastest router out there, and does not support the 802.11AC.
I have gigabit fiber Internet to my home, so my wired Ethernet devices are benefiting from gigabit Ethernet support, but I have no wireless AC devices, so (at least at the moment) having a wireless AC-capable router would not give me any significant advantages.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 6 months

Pros: Good features at a good price.

Cons: This thing died after 6 months of use. The power light won't even come on. The light on the AC adapter lights up but then blinks when you connect it to the router. Ordered a new AC adapter but that didn't help. Contacted ASUS but they said its not under warranty.

To be honest I didn't notice at the time that I bought this that it was refurbished. I'm definitely not buying refurbished from Newegg again.

1 out of 5 eggsNo Product Quality Control At All

Pros: Cheap?

Cons: No product Quality Control at all. I received mine with a damaged power supply. Where the power cord and wall plug meet was cracked and I could easily see into the wall plug. One of the fins on the power plug was bent as well. And the power pin the plugs into the router was bent as well. I didn't even try to turn it on before RMA'ing. Like others have said, this is obviously a crapshoot to see if you'll get a decent one. I'd rather save my money and buy something new that I know will work, instead of hoping for the best. Whoever is "refurbishing" these is obviously not paying attention at all.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Installed latest firmware right away. Easy set up (don't use WPS, there is a security venerability with that, just log in and use password. Interface makes setting up a password and even multiple guest accounts very easy. Fast file transfers and streaming movies from downloaded files.

Cons: Interface does not allow me to configure the router to only allow configuration changes via direct cable connection. Since I can find no way to prohibit WiFi connections being able to configure modem, I am potentially venerable to a neighbor or Drive-By hacker changing my settings. I use a long complex password, so probably not a big issue, but always felt safer with the unit locked down to where could only change Router configuration via a hard wire physical connection.

Other Thoughts: My old basic router had taken one too many nearby lightning strikes, and was getting a little bit unstable. Having trouble getting some devices to connect while others worked fine?

I am up in the mountains, and my range is generally limited by line of sight. Have tested it with WiFi Analyzer, and get a little more range than my old router. Even the 5 ghz band goes out several hundred yards. My son has the same router in a flat area, and was surprised to see his phone connect to his router while at a friends house almost half a mile away, thanks to beam forming technology.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat First but as soon as 90 days pass

Pros: Price was great with promotion. Worked great for 3 months.

Cons: I use google fiber at home 1gb up and down speed. So i needed something good to support me so i got this router. AC would been better but i don't have many device which has AC function so i got this. It worked great. Easy to set up and so and so. However, as soon as 90 month warranty expire it is heating up like crazy and the router cannot provide the speed which i need. Also using this router now my ping goes up and down like crazy. My ping would be in 39 and all of sudden it will go upto 900. I thought maybe it is google fiber so i tested with other router which does not have an issue.
Apparently Asus does not care either since they know it is Refurbished and it is my fault for buying refurbished, Thank you So much for selling a worst device.

1 out of 5 eggsReceived unit with fried power adapter & RMA replacement had another fried adapter!

Pros: Hypothetically good feature price set

Cons: Obviously no QC whatsoever is being applied to these "refurbs". The first had a cosmetically OK but dead power adapter. RMA'd for a replacement and the second unit had a power supply that was literally charred and melted! I've never seen anything like it.

Other Thoughts: These are obviously not "refurbs". These are units that were received back as non-operational, not even glanced at, and then simply re-boxed for sale. Whatever supplier Newegg is getting these from they need to reconsider that sourcing.

3 out of 5 eggsLess of a review, more of a rant

Pros: Anyone who says anything bad about the hardware are jerks, this router has the gear and the features of the best.

Cons: I bought refurbished because I am buying for my company and this was greatly received by tech savvy router critics. I got a router that worked flawlessly for 2 months and then the 2.4 radio died. No printer, no laptops, no phones. For the radio to completely disappear from the config page is pretty nuts.

Other Thoughts: 3 stars for neweggs return department. Out of the 30 day window and no box. Score!

1 out of 5 eggsDo you feel "lucky"?

Pros: If you get one that works consistently, it's a pleasure to use. There are many ways to enable other features (via scripts or Tomato firmware).

Cons: All network activity stopped twice during the 11 days that I tried using it, and would not start working again unless the router was reset. This happened with the stock and Merlin firmware; I think it was heat related.

Other Thoughts: Rather than waste time beta testing customer returns, I went back to using my Linksys E2500.
