2 out of 5 eggsLooks Nice

Pros: Nice design, seems sturdy. Having the AP only option and guest wifi is a nice feature.

Cons: Worked for about 2 hours, then powered off and would not power on again.

Other Thoughts: If you are considering a refurbished unit, don't bother. I can't even submit the RMA request with Newegg without waiting forever and getting the run around. I have loved Newegg for years, but this is not good.

2 out of 5 eggsWireless unstable

Pros: Product is easy to setup, GUI is well done with a great deal of configuration and information. Signal strength for wireless has been good over the entire house.

Cons: 2.4G wireless network is unstable. Infrequently (12 to 48 hours) router will stop all traffic with all active devices simultaneously getting disconnected. Only a reset will recover. 5G wireless is NOT affected by this bug.
Tried all the normal fixes; latest FW, clear NVRAM, etc.
Asus support has not been able to provide FW update to fix the problem.

1 out of 5 eggsNot power up out of box

Pros: None. Wasted couple days from shipping. The router does not power up out of box.

Cons: I am not sure how reliable these ‘Asus certified refurbished’ routers are, but I am sure the router which I got is not the only one could not power up out of box. I understand refurbished units cannot compare with new units due to warranty, but getting a dead unit on day one is not fun experience at all. I ordered refurbished products from different brands before and this is the only one completely dead out of box. I normally don’t write negative reviews, but I could not help myself on this one.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS refurbished router

Pros: None, I could not evaluate it because it never ever worked.

Cons: This router did not work, it did not even turn on, it was dead right out of the box. I thnk the problem is the power adapter, I see a small LED window on the adapter itself and I assume it is supposed to light up when plugged in....it did not ever light up. I tried several plugs, I tried every button on the router...absolutely nothing happens. Nothing lights up, nothing comes on.

Other Thoughts: I am a Newegg Prime subscriber and I have ordered many products from Newegg over the last couple of years, and I have been really lucky up until now, because this is the very first non-working product I have received. It has nothing to do with Newegg, of course, it is the manufacturer, or whoever "refurbishes" the product for the manufacturer. I guess they dropped the ball on this one, it wasn't tested before leaving the shop.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsStarted out great.

Pros: Easy setup and control. Plenty fast for all of our devices.

Cons: Died after 6 months. After doing some research, found that other people had the same problem with this router. MB seems to go out. Being refurbished, only had a 90 day warranty. First refurb item I have had die on me. Was a little disappointed. Did not think my first to die would be an ASUS.

Other Thoughts: 3 wireless computers, 4 android tablets, 2 smartphones, 1 wireless printer, Roku 3, Wii, 1 wired computer, 1 wired 'other' device. All this ran fine, even when they were all on at the same time. It was rare they were all running at once, but handled it just the same.

5 out of 5 eggsFeature rich router at a decent price

Pros: Informative GUI interface geared to both novice and professional users but some basic router/networking knowledge is necessary to use advanced features. It's open source firmware that allows for customized firmware beyond the factory feature rich programming. Being re-certified and a step below the newest cutting AC routers it's price and features make a good combination.

Cons: Cables exit the rear that is the top if it were hung on a wall or when used with the included mount that makes it awkward with the lan/wan cables drroped over the 3 antennas.
It tends to run warm and sitting it flat may cause a problem

Other Thoughts: Remember anything sold "re-xxx" is the luck of the draw but mine works well and I would buy it again.,
The RT-N66R is the exact same router as the RT-N66U , the only difference is what type of store it was packaged for, the "R" was sold through big box stores.
Here's a good networking forum with a lot on this and other Asus routers.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great connectivity. I have mine connected to a 2TB USB drive and watch movies through it.

Cons: A lot of flashing blue lights, so it could be a nuisance if that annoys you. I have mine in a utility closet, so no issues.

Other Thoughts: I was buying something else on Newegg today, and decided to post a review of this router I bought back in Feb. I bought this refurbished, not new. It has been running 24/7. I have had absolutely no issues with it whatsoever. I installed Merlin's firmware shortly after getting this and update it every 3 months or so. I have about 10 wireless devices (rokus, ps3, laptops, iphones) connected to this daily, and I never lose any connectivity.

4 out of 5 eggsI love it

Pros: Merlin firmware makes it awesome. Especially like the ability to monitor usage by device.

Cons: None really for a router with these features at the price.

Other Thoughts: Maybe not for the novice. Excellent if know how to use the features.

2 out of 5 eggsNot very satisfied

Pros: Range is great. It covers my 2000 sq.ft. home and both the front and back yards.

When it works, it is able to support my 150mbps connection.

Cons: Cuts off a lot, Overheats, and disconnects or slows down the entire internet even with rarely any use.

Very unstable internet connection.
