1 out of 5 eggsJust getting half the speed wirelessly

Pros: Inexpensive router after the cash rebate

Cons: Not getting the full speed when connected wirelessly
Non existent tech support if your device works, great otherwise don't expect anything from them.

Other Thoughts: I have a Charter spectrum 60 mbps download and 4 mbps upload but only get 30 mbps download with the ASUS RT-N10P router though the signal strength is good and the firmware is the latest one. When connected directly to the router using cable the speed is 60 mbps.

I get 60 mbps with the Netgear R6300v2 wireless router provided by Charter and if connected directly to the cable modem.

I spoke with ASUS tech support and they said that this is a lower model so you are not getting the full speed which doesnt make sense?

There are others who are getting full 60 mbps speed without any issue and it seems that the problem is related to the router though instead of addressing the problem they shrugged off by saying that this is lower model router and you need to purchase an expensive router because if doesn't support high speed.

I purchased the router because of ASUS name in graphic card and motherboard which I have and they are amazing but this router was a big let down.

4 out of 5 eggsGood bang for the buck

Pros: Price
Tomato compatible
Energy Efficient (rated 0.5 amp's @ 12volt [6 watts])

Cons: Fixed Antenna
Poor quality, super short Ethernet cable
Dirty/Scratched unit out of the box
Short Power Supply
Poorly thought out wall mounting slots on bottom.
No way to stand the unit on it's end (vertical)

Other Thoughts: Got these on the black friday sale for cheap after rebate.
These are Tomato firmware compatible which add's a ton of features to them.
The stock firmware however is very decent and will fill 99% of most peoples needs.

The antennas on these are fixed, not removable which is kinda disappointing but not unexpected at these prices.

What was surprising however was my unit had a few light scratches and what looked like some dust and finger prints on it.

Normally I'd say the router was used.. but I don't think so.. I think the factory they make them in must be filthy or something.

The power cable is fairly short.. so if you mount it on a wall or on the top of a high desk you may have problems reaching without an extension cord.

Speaking of short the included ethernet cable is about 3feet.. suitable for jumping to a modem or switch but that's about it.
The jacket on the cable is super cheap feeling and has no markings.. so I cringe to think what quality cable is actually inside it.

This is Asus's economy router so you expect some cost cutting but you expect better from Asus.

The router does preform fairly well though so those faults can be forgiven, and you can flash Tomato on it and it will do things that are well outside it's price range.

Overall it's a great buy, and It's very power efficient taking only about 6 watts of power.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cheap router

Pros: Been using it over 6 months and never had reboot issues. Not the fastest router in market but it was $10 and well served for me.

NOTE: DDWRT didn't work well as repeater mode so went back to factory and works just fine.

Cons: I like tower shaped router or modems, saves lot of space on desk. Hard to give cons because router was only $10 . So I don't expect removable antennas so I won't say that :)

Other Thoughts: Its available for as low as $5 ar.

1 out of 5 eggsGood fast router that did not last

Pros: It is easy to setup
Has a good stable connection

Cons: Rang is equal to my old Linksys router
Did not last long

Other Thoughts: I purchased it in May 2014, it lasted only 6 months. I can't get the Asus self RMA site to work, which is really frustrating. Asus needs to spend more on building a better customer support site.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked Great for Me

Pros: The unit is small but the antenna is big! Decent coverage for an entry level router. The firmware interface is simple and straight forward.

Cons: Nothing... so far.

Other Thoughts: I recently set this up for a customer. I tried two different cisco/linksys routers, and his laptop just wouldn't see them at all (Lenovo). Installed this router and the laptop saw it right away and connected no problem. He is getting full speed from his ISP (30 Mbps), so it's all good.
This is a quality entry level router with many features you would only get in a more expensive router, but don't expect it to cover a large house though.
As a bonus I would say it is a pleasant looking unit.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat with Tomato

Pros: Cheap, works well enough for a budget router.

Cons: Range not as good as expected.

Other Thoughts: I'm still using my Linksys 54GL with Tomato and have tried a few newer N budget routers in an attempt to "upgrade" from Wireless G. This Asus was my latest experiment, and it is a nice router using the latest Shibby Tomato build. Specifically, I like being able to cap per client bandwidth at a particular kbps rate since we are on slower DSL. I also wanted to setup a VLAN for guest account. This router does all of this perfectly with Tomato. I did not try the oem firmware so cannot comment on it's capabilities.

I went back to my 54GL mainly due to the limited range on this router. It has a single antenna, so I probably should not have expect the same range as my dual antenna router. Even cranking up the transmit power (tomato allows this) did not help much in our 3200 sq. ft. single story home, where some bedrooms simply did not get enough signal to use the internet on wireless (Windows often displayed 1mbps throughput but browser would not open web pages). If you are trying to upgrade on a really small budget, this router is a great choice if range is not a concern.

3 out of 5 eggsSome Good, Some Bad

Pros: Easy Setup
Good design

Cons: Reliability

Other Thoughts: I've purchased two of these routers to serve as APs. Setup for both was a breeze and changing them over from router to AP was simply clicking a button.

One has been very reliable, never dropping a connection or causing any issue. The second has been taken offline permanently after requiring a reboot every few days. Each AP was set on a different channel with the same SSID, but the device would seemingly lose all contact with the router and outside world while still making connections to wireless devices in the house.

I will replace the unit with another ASUS device, but I'll be going with a newer one with more speed and better reliability.

5 out of 5 eggsNewEgg is the best

Pros: If NewEgg ships any faster, they'll have to put it through a time warp.

Cons: Not as happy with Asus Router as I have been with other Asus products.

Other Thoughts: Ordered the Asus router because my experience with other Asus products, mostly motherboards, has been very positive. I'm a little disappointed that the router lacks certain diagnostic features, using a "wizard" instead.
