2 out of 5 eggsWatch what you buy

Pros: 8-port switch with a VIP port

Cons: I went from my old switch (D-Link) to this new one. My Vonage has dropped twice in a week using the VIP port. If I cannot get this switch to work properly I will go back to the old one that still works okay. Only had this switch a week now.

Other Thoughts: Specification states 1024 Kbits buffer which I read to actually read 1 MB of memory. I did not realize my mistake until I read the box which stated 128 KB buffer memory. For cable TV, the company that I go through recommends 256 KB or more if you use a switch for that purpose.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat home switch

Pros: Have used this for over 2 years without any issues. It has 8 Gig ports which is important for home networks. It is a must to have Gig ports for streaming between home devices such as PC to stereos or to TVs. This switch handles this flawlessly. The AC adapter is configured so that it does not take extra space on a power outlet, very smart.

Cons: Newegg does not have same day drone delivery service, yet. No real cons for the switch (or Newegg).

Other Thoughts: I have used many ASUS products and have very little negative experiences with them. This is a simple switch best used in a home/home office. ASUS does not spec this switch as a "Tough" device. Power spikes or fluctuations may damage it. It would be wise to connect this (or any other electronic device) to a quality surge protector. This is a switch not a router, the speed across this is determined by the speed of the devices it is connected to. That said, this switch has never slowed a connection. When ASUS makes a Gig wired router (not wireless) that has firewall features and allows for ACLs then I will get one. Watch out Cisco

3 out of 5 eggsslight problem with WDTV Live player

Pros: works except for streaming problem below

Cons: everything works as it should except i noticed after around 8 months my WDTV live player would stutter and freeze every 20 minutes into streaming a movie. I thought it was the wd player so i switched it out with a 2nd one i have. Same thing happend. I power cycled the Asus switch and the problem stopped. I'm hoping it stays this way for awhile before it will need another power cycle, we'll see.

5 out of 5 eggsElegant, Reliable, and Fully Loaded with Features

Pros: So far so good. Originally planned for a 5-port switch, but I figured a little extra room wouldn't hurt. It's been handling 2-4 devices for the past few months, for the most part, 24/7. It has yet to fault on me.

It looks very elegant. It's a basic networking switch, but ASUS knows how to build attractive, feature loaded (energy efficient ethernet, priority queuing with a "VIP port," full-duplex gigabit ethernet), pieces of hardware.

Cons: Scratches easily and it's a dust magnet. Despite this, I wouldn't change the "look" of the switch. Nothing a little dusting can't fix. As far as scratches go, best advice I can give is, "handle with care" -- unless you don't really.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Great

Pros: I like how it is shaped. I love the blue lights and the fact that they are dim and unobtrusive to the eye. it was easy to install. plugged all of the cables in and everything worked fine. no hassle at all, so far. Oh, and I got it at a great price to boot.

Cons: none that i can tell

Other Thoughts: I need more ports so I got this to replace the 'GX-D1051 V3 5-Port' I got 2 years ago.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of Money

Pros: Worked for One Year and Three Months without any problems.

Cons: I purchased two of these switches and after One Year and Three Months they just quit working. The Switch goes blank no lights no connection.

Other Thoughts: I should have known better purchasing this product. Really looks cheap.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Switch

Pros: This is the 2nd one I have bought because the 1st worked flawless.
Plug and play!
Small takes little room.

Cons: Wish the "green" feature could be turned off.
Wish the power cable was a little longer.

Other Thoughts: Concerned about the "green" aspect slowing down quality... just a concern I have not seen it yet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat lil Switch.

Pros: Easy to install, lights are a nice blue and not to bright, no real installation, just connect, and power on.

Cons: Only one i can find is that the cable connections are in the wrong position.

If you hang it on a wall with the cables pointing down, the text on the switch will be inverted, if you want the text to point the right way up, the cables have to come in from above.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT GET THIS SWITCH

Pros: Worked fine for few weeks
its a switch.
very easy to install

Cons: after 1 week this constantly needs to be restarted.
will randomly drop clients.
dropped clients would say they are connected to internet but with no connection whatsoever and the only solution is to reset this switch

Other Thoughts: My friend had a good reliable Asus router so i bought this instead of Cisco one to save some bucks. Funny thing is that his router also started doing the same thing right after mine.

I also had Asus powerline adapter that i had to replace with TP-link because it was giving me constant 1mbps up/down with over 300ms pings.

Its not like i'll never buy Asus again, but I will definitely never buy Asus networking gears anymore.

5 out of 5 eggsAn excellent switch that's stylish to boot.

Pros: Compact size and stylish design. Blue LEDs are always cool. It just works.

Cons: No metal housing (if that's important).

Other Thoughts: These switches look good and work perfectly. I bought them to replace a set of Trendnet switches that still worked (I just wanted something new) and they are connected to Asus's RT-AC68R router. Anyone needing a new switch should pick up a pair; they'll add a bit of style to your home network!
