2 out of 5 eggsJust Another Router

This review is from: ASUS RT-N12/D1 Wireless-N300 3-in-1 Router/AP/Range Extender IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g/n

Pros: it does what it suppose to do which is a router

Cons: it said that it has a range extender but it has the same range as my current router, so if anyone bought this for the range extender do reconsider because you will be disappointed.

This review is from: ASUS RT-N12/D1 Wireless-N300 3-in-1 Router/AP/Range Extender IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g/n

Pros: What's cool about this product is that you don't need to flash any third party firmware to get repeating or wired extending features. Everything is built in and specifically what this router is designed for.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Router! -1 star for poor documentation. Love the 3 Guest Networks!!

This review is from: ASUS RT-N12/D1 Wireless-N300 3-in-1 Router/AP/Range Extender IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g/n

Pros: Incredible coverage, easy to set-up but has very complex options too for the nerdy type. I live in an apt building and I share my Wifi with 4 others. One person is about 64ft from me and through 9 walls (18 sheets of 1/2" drywall) can max out my internet speed (16Mbps DL). We have 11 devices running out of 5 apts with zero problems (1-PS4, 1-printer, 1-Smart TV, 3-cells, 1 table, 4 PCs). The Guest network (3) is great for sharing, allowing you to restrict access to your intranet. Multiple scheduling/filters to restrict kids use. I use MAC filtering to limit which devices can connect. Has some built in monitoring tools, wish it could monitor usage by MAC or Guest Network.

Cons: Poor documentation, QOS seems simple to set up but gives me warning messages which are not documented anywhere, and appears to NOT work as planned. Other complex settings are not explained very well if at all, for this I took back one star.

Other Thoughts: I've always liked Linksys/Cisco so I bought a new one at $120, the guest network DID NOT even have encryption! Took it back and bought this Asus at a fraction of the cost. I wish Asus made cable modems too, I'd buy one. I don't usually do reviews but I was so impressed with this Asus that I felt obligated. This is the best router I have seen since the old days of Linksys WRT54GL. Previous router was a top of the line NetGear turned out to be junk. It's such a relief to find a GREAT router again.

2 out of 5 eggsworks half the time

This review is from: ASUS RT-N12/D1 Wireless-N300 3-in-1 Router/AP/Range Extender IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g/n

Pros: price
easy setup

Cons: As soon as the firmware was updated it asked myself to log into the account ,but i never made one or have any information of one
Signal would drop from time to time and this is 30 mins after opening the box

Other Thoughts: route only gives out 2.4 ghz if you are looking for 5 ghz this is not a product for you also beware with updating the fireware from asus.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Long,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the router's performance. Please allow me to assist you.

Please try the steps below to try to improve the router's performance.

For the best wireless signal transmission between the wireless router and the network devices connected to it, ensure that you:

* You may try changing the Channel bandwidth to boost the frequency of 2.4 GHz to 20 MHz and control channel of 1, 6 or 11. For the Channel bandwidth to boost the frequency of 5GHz for the bandwidth, please select 60MHz, and the control channel 161.
* Place the wireless router in a centralized area for a maximum wireless coverage for the network devices.
* Keep the device away from metal obstructions and away from direct sunlight.
* Keep the device away from #24;0#24;.11g or #24;0MHz only Wi-Fidevices, #24;.#24;GHz computer peripherals, Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, transformers, heavy-duty motors, fluorescent lights, microwave ovens, refrigerators, and other industrial equipment to prevent signal i

4 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

This review is from: ASUS RT-N12/D1 Wireless-N300 3-in-1 Router/AP/Range Extender IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g/n

Pros: Using as a wireless access point with a Belkin N600 router. It took a bit to set it up but works well. First attempt was to use it as a relay but the range was not extend very far.

Cons: Not very good as a relay.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

This review is from: ASUS RT-N12/D1 Wireless-N300 3-in-1 Router/AP/Range Extender IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g/n

Pros: Supports opening needed ports (what Asus calls 'port triggering'), supports customizable Qos, strong signal. Purchased this to use in the bottom floor of a three story house to compliment the existing Wifi being provided by an Apple Airport Extreme router. This router actually has much better features and makes using the 13+ Wifi devices in the house a pleasant experience instead of a battle. DD-WRT is available if you need more customizable features, the standard Asus firmware does everything I need it to do well, however. We gave this duty as the router and configured the Airport as a bridged AP, the Asus does a better job where latency matters. Overall quite good.

Cons: None that I've encountered thus far.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a main router to use in a small home with less than 10 devices on Wifi, this should do the job. If you're looking to expand your current wireless network to meet the demand, this can also do the job. DO NOT use WDS, set one device as the main router and connect the second via Ethernet, then set the second device as an AP/bridge mode. Create the same SSID, security, etc. on both devices and you should be golden.
