5 out of 5 eggsThis is the router you're looking for

Pros: This is currently the flagship ASUS router. It supports a/b/g/n/ac and has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios. It has more features than most people will ever need or use, but it's comforting to know that they're there if you do. Hopefully, this is the last router I'll need to buy for a long time.

Cons: My router shipped with firmware version 3.0.0.4.374_4561 which, seems to have a performance problem, at least with 2.4GHz "n" clients. With my old ASUS RT-N16, I could get a solid 15Mbps download speed when running online bandwidth speed tests (my broadband connection tops out at 15Mbps). However, with the new RT-AC68U, I could only get 1.5Mbps at best. When I flashed the firmware to Asuswrt-Merlin 374.40 alpha 4 (the latest stable build for the RT-AC68U). The performance problem is totally gone. Asuswrt-Merlin is a modified version of the stock ASUS firmware, so it has the same UI and all the features of stock firmware, except with less bugs.

5 out of 5 eggsTen times more than I expected

Pros: sleek, dark, very fast, dependable, zero dropped signals. 5G reaches over 3000 sq. out the driveway, in the back yard and completes the entire second level. Running 3 HD 1080's streaming Netflix, Blockbuster and anything else including 5 wireless desktops, 1 laptop, 8 security camera's, and 4 Galaxy S4's with a single hiccup. Excellent software for fine tuning.

Cons: I haven't found one yet.

Other Thoughts: Replaced DLINK 4500 and Netgear 750. Doesn't need a repeater, best all in one for heavy duty steaming, gaming, etc...I had no idea what I was missing. This model is priced under the competitor, I still can't believe the speed and range. Could have spent more for a nano more but honestly, this sleeper will do it all.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes everything and more.

Pros: Good replacement for a NAS.
Recognizes most USB hubs.
Super Fast.
Configurable.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I have 4x4tb Seagate hard drives attached to this thing and it streams all my media through plex to all my televisions, tablets and phones. Not just within my home network, but outside too. It is super fast, easy to set up and it's never once given me a problem of any kind.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a turkey

Pros: Check Please!!!!!!

Cons: Interface freezes after 5 seconds. Internet connection still works but unable to configure the router, regardless of firmware upgrade or downgrade, or computer. Yes, you can do a firmware upgrade or downgrade. Nothing is plugged into the router except computer and internet. Returned the unit and purchased a Netgear AC1900. When received, if it works out of the box I consider half the problem solved. We'll see.

5 out of 5 eggsJust amazing!

Pros: Just fast as fast can get. I have had no issues since I have been up and running. I bought two, one for router and one for bridge.

Cons: Tech support is really bad. I had great support when I bought my asus mobo and that was one of the reasons I was going back to Asus for another one.. I read the reviews and just thought firmware was ready and did it. Tech support was just terrible. I was able to get one hell of a lot more information from reading posts on the net.

Other Thoughts: These work better than I really thought. Once I found the missing information that I believe tech support should have been able to figure out they are just great!

1 out of 5 eggsOverall bad experience

Pros: (Copied this over from the RT-AC68R page as these are physically identical and it will get more exposure here).
Seemed to be a decent router. But I bought a pair of these specifically to establish a Media Bridge. Which did eventually work. But other problems I'm not willing to wait out the solutions of forced abandonment.

Cons: The manual directions leave out the most critical thing. It took 2 days to discover the LAN IP of the bridge device must be manually changed to something other than default and the DHCP server disabled on the bridge device. Even putting the device in Bridge mode in Administration (which isn't mentioned in the manual's Bridging directions) and connecting to the Wireless Router leaves the bridge on the same LAN IP. After finally establishing the bridge, neither unit would recognize my Orinco 2595US3 enclosure connected to the USB 3.0 port, but would connected to the USB 2.0 port? Even my lowly Chromebook has no problems with this enclosure. And neither the NAS or my XP computer were presented in Network Discovery. Windows 7 shares could be manually added in XP's Network Places but Windows 7 couldn't find the XP shares or the NAS?

Other Thoughts: The forced initial setup won't accept manually entered DNS Server IP's. You must allow it to go Auto to get by that and then manually change the WAN settings after the fact. It's just generally dumb! After many trial and error attempts I finally determined the way to do it was to setup the bridge device first without the wireless router on to prevent it entangling with the router. Then setup the wireless router with the bridge device off. Then turning the bridge back on, if you've got it all right it will work! For how long I didn't bother to find out. The apparent abandonment of Windows XP in network discovery was enough to look elsewhere.
