4 out of 5 eggsSeveral firmware bugs

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: As others said...

Cons: 1. Potential firmware bug:

The latest firmware 3.0.0.4.376_3626 lists all traffic from wan to lan port as "Tx" data. Lan traffic is always Zero (Traffic Manager-->Traffic Monitor). This is very big mistake.

2. Auto connect to ASUS for updating and etc.

User cannot turn off this because ASUS uses this as telemetry to collect user data. You pay for a big router, with free big brother taking care of you!

3. Whenever you modify something, system log is reset to zero.

What's the difficult to keep the log? We need this to diagnose.

5 out of 5 eggsGreatest router I have ever owned

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: It has a really good web interface, you can pretty much control any aspect. You can connect a usb printer, or external HDD and set it up as a file server via the web interface. The wireless range and signal are great, my Samsung TV in the living room has full bar signal and streaming netflix/youtube on it is excellent. Wireless is just as fast as hardwired download/upload speeds. theres also a button on the back to turn the LED's off if their too bright.
it has 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz wireless and

Cons: I cant think of any cons, it looks great and performs great.

Other Thoughts: space potatoes

2 out of 5 eggsLAN Ports Onle Lasted 8 Months!

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Wireless works okay.

Cons: Bought this to replace an older LinkSys router. Wireless has been working fine, however, the hard-wired LAN ports stopped working (all of them!) about 7 months into use. I've tried upgrading the firmware, bought new RJ-45 cables and replaced them all. Still not working wired LAN. I expected MUCH more from a $200+ router!!!!

Other Thoughts: I need to return this thing, and have it replaced before the warranty expires.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking good

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Just plain works...no re-boots except for firmware updates.

Cons: non so far

Other Thoughts: I was leery about getting this unit from reading some of the reviews. However, this product has worked flawless for me so far. Seems to a lot more dependable that my old netgear unit which I had to reboot several times a month. Good job Asus...been buying your products for year and they work good. Kudus to Newegg for the great service.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router Highly Recommended

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Very nice GUI, easy to set up, worked perfectly out of the box.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This router, which has excellent reviews, is everything as advertised. I recently purchased a Hitron CGN3 modem/router from my ISP, Rogers. The CGN3 has a lot of known issues, including not supporting a wireless printer and has problems with VOIP. I experienced these problems first-hand and was advised by some people on the Rogers Community forums to get a decent router and bridge the CGN3. A couple of them also highly recommended the RT-AC68U and I'm glad I took their advice. It solved all the issues of the CGN3 right out of the box. One plus that I wasn't expecting is with an older iPhone 4S. With the CGN3, it was getting download speeds of around 24mbps max. With the ASUS, it's getting about 45mbps. I didn't even know the phone would support speeds that high. I'm on the Rogers Hybrid 150 plan, which is why I had to get the CGN3, as it's the only product Rogers has with 24 channels.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy peasy!

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: If you are replacing an existing router, this one goes in in 10 minutes (I even relocated it). My devices all connect at the same speeds (my previous router was an N), but the connections are quicker and it doesn't seem to mind when everyone is accessing it together for streaming.

Cons: It's big and quite tall since it sits vertically (only) and the three antennae are on top. It's heft and rubbery plastic feet keep it planted, though.

Other Thoughts: Not much to say as it was almost too easy. Your web browser immediately goes to the GUI and the settings are easy to make. If you are putting this in an open area it will be the first thing everyone notices due to it size and the three antennae on top. Hiding this unit is the hardest thing you will do. I replaced my N router as my family is constantly streaming with Fire TV box, tablets, smartphones, a laptop, and a desktop. I also have two wireless printers. The streaming was interrupting to catch up before. Now everything runs together without a problem

4 out of 5 eggsEverything except gaming

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Long range, excellent coverage, blazing fast, ultra customizable. Best router I've ever owned except for one con...

Cons: Forget console gaming. There is no option to change the NAT type to "Open"... heck, there isn't even an option to tweak the NAT at all! Multiplayer gaming will not work on this router. I've tried port forwarding, static IP, custom firmware, etc. This router will not allow Xbox Live to work properly because the NAT is strict and you can't change it. I just bypassed my router by connecting my Xbox 360 directly to my modem and Xbox Live is perfect now. I don't know what ASUS was thinking.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Router

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Wildly Configurable
Fast, Fast, Fast
USB3 NAS Port
USB2 Printer Port
Guest Network

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I had occasion to all ASUS tech support when initially installing the device. I got through to support almost immediately and the tech was very knowledgeable and helpful. I have had no issues with this device whatsoever after applying the firmware upgrade.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked great, while it lasted

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Amazing router while it worked. Perfect in every way that mattered to me

Cons: WILL NOT STAY CONNECTED. I have an issue where my router won't serve my requests properly. It doesn't drop my connection to the router. My connection between the router and the internet is the problem. I will lose connectivity for a few minutes at a time, then get connected for a few minutes, back and forth forever. If I bypass the router and go straight to cable modem, no problems. Contacting support is a NIGHTMARE. There is no number that serves routers, and their support software on the website is TERRIBLE. Makes me rethink buying ASUS again.

Other Thoughts: I returned a Linksys WRT-1900 AC to get this since it would work along side my already DD-WRT'd routers in the house and the Linksys would not....
