5 out of 5 eggsWorth it

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: I have run this router continuously for 6 months without needing to reboot it once. Laptop will connect wirelessly to the web at 56Mb/s all day, everyday. With any previous wireless router experience, setup should take 2 minutes. Nice graphical interface. Easily the best router I have every owned (versus netgear, d-link, linksys). Only router of equal connection reliability is the legendary linksys 54g. Clean, full speed connections up to 40 feet.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggsContinuously disconnects...

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Range is better than most routers.

Cons: This router is awful. I bought this because I read that the reviews were good, but its not. It continuously disconnected every 30 minutes or so, and in some cases I need to restart the router for it to work. Not worth the money for it.

4 out of 5 eggsRe post

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: OK this thing is very fast and reliable. It has good range. It stand vertical which would seem it would stay cooler.

Cons: The utility in the Asus software for connecting printers is a joke. I was very frustrated trying to connect my wireless printer to it. I finally completely uninstalled the printer software on the Laptop/ PC. Then reinstall using the printer software via usb. It finally worked and continues to work I dragged the printer into my sons room to reach the usb cord laptop was easier.
Also only my androids connect to the 5 gz

The Asus utility software - one egg

Other Thoughts: I'm posting this to help anyone with my average tech skills. Don't try to connect your wireless printer via the Asus utility. Try what I did, completely uninstall the printer software then start over. It worked first time via USB. Install it wirelessly via usb using your printer software/drivers.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a head ache

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Well it does work good... It was overkill for what I needed but I was hoping it would be reliable.

Cons: It has yet to be reliable for me.

Other Thoughts: Iv tried 3 different firmware including dd-wrt with all the same results. My first the first one I received would not port forward. So rma'd. About 2 weeks later I got another one. I installed it and everything seemed right, however I noticed I would randomly drop internet daily. I found that the router seems to be crashing and restarting itself pretty much daily. I was about to rma for another one, 2 week after received it to fix this unstable issue, however because it is 30 days after the rma date I am not able to issue another rma... what a waste of $220. Im going to call newegg tomorrow and see if they will rma but right now I don't know whats going to happen. Ill post back once whatever happens happens but bottom line, 2 routers = 2 head aches. and head aches make me sad =[

I do not recommend this product it seems to be quite flaky.

2 out of 5 eggsMissing Functionality

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Wireless AC
Removable Antennas
Gb-E

Cons: No support for exFAT USB formatted drives
Wireless client unable to share content (works when wired)

Other Thoughts: For the $$$ I spent I was expecting top of of the line consumer hardware, but the missing functionality is a bummer. Asus tech support says there is no plan to support exFAT, and are clueless about why wireless clients cannot share data.

Keeping fingers crossed that Asus eventually adds the functionality or fixes the problems.

1 out of 5 eggsIt died

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: It set up easily.

Cons: It worked fine for two days. Then we'd get intermittent drops where we'd have to reboot the router. Today, it went belly up. I bought it during the daily special in July while on vacation. Just got it hooked up a week ago.

Other Thoughts: Infant mortality. It happens.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat I was hoping for.

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Speed.
Capacity.
Customization.

Cons: Prefer a horizontal design.

Other Thoughts: This is what I was hoping for when I bought it's predecessor the RT-AC66U. The AC66U was the best WIFI router till I bought his, but it was still a disappointment. The AC66U couldn't handle the high traffic demands from multiple devices I have, it would constantly drop signal. This thing handles everything I throw at it. I can stream movies while moving 100 gigs of data to my server without a hiccup. I know a lot of enthusiasts switch to an open source firmware, but I am quite content with the one provided by Asus. I love the FTP, Downloader, and USB storage options. It really is a great router. If you are deciding between the AC66U and this and you have many connections needed to be made, go with this one, it's worth the extra cash. AC66U is fine for a handful of connections without high data transfers.

I do prefer a horizontal design because you can place it on a laptop cooler to keep it cool. I have a mini fan that I put behind this one and works great. It's not necessary for ownership, but I think it is good to do.

5 out of 5 eggsRT-AC68U

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Simple setup and operation. Great price Newegg!

Cons: None noted

Other Thoughts: I'm an EE with 30 years experience. Probably setup 10+ routers in the past. This was by far the easiest and best GUI when just logging into 192.168.1.1 using a web browser. Have had the router for two weeks and no reboots necessary. Use Prof Tab and set power of both bands to 50% which keeps the router cool without any connection issues throughout the house. I highly recommend this router.
