2 out of 5 eggs5 GHz ?

This review is from: ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC600 Wi-Fi Adapter (USB-AC51)

Pros: works on 2.4 GHz networks

Cons: Doesn't recognize 5GHz networks. Not sure what selectable dual-band 5GHz is supposed to mean, but I can't see 5GHz signals, and that was the reason I bought it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jeremy,

I want to thank you for posting this review and we are sorry to hear your experience with the unit. On behalf of ASUS we apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused you.

Please allow me to assist you, please be advised that the adapter can detect one frequency at a time so you need to set the router to 5GHz frequency in order for the adapter to detect it and also you need to consider the distance of the adapter from the router since 5GHz frequency is for close distance connection only.

For further technical assistance or if you want to discuss this matter with me, please email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and put case # in the subject line for a reference. I'm here to help you and all others with these issues, as our customer loyalty department dedicated to bringing a resolution to all issues related to our products.

Thank you for choosing ASUS.

Best regards,
Jerry

5 out of 5 eggsAC600 Wi-Fi Adaper (USB-AC51)

This review is from: ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC600 Wi-Fi Adapter (USB-AC51)

Pros: Works as advertised on my wife's Lenovo T530 Laptop.
Easy to set up with or without supplied CD disk.
Great value for the money.
So impressed that I just ordered another one for my Lenovo E520.

Cons: None to date.

Other Thoughts: Disregard naysayers. Some people either can't read instructions, or complain even if they're hung with a silver rope!

5 out of 5 eggsASUS AC51 Dual-Band Wireless Adapter

This review is from: ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC600 Wi-Fi Adapter (USB-AC51)

Pros: I purchased this to replace a single band 2.4G Netgear adapter. I really like the small, compact design of this wifi adapter, fits nicely in my desktop without protruding too much and the range is very good on both bands. Before you install the software go to the ASUS website and download their latest version for this device. When you install the software and to get best results, choose the option, “Only use Windows wireless function”. If you don’t choose this option, you will most likely get poor results as I did. I first went with the ASUS Utilities and received poor internet speeds on both bands and throughput was nowhere near the speeds advertised. After reinstalling and choosing the Windows wireless function did I get the advertised results.

Cons: Struggled with getting the adapter to work with the ASUS Utilities, I had to play around with the software until I found an option that worked.

1 out of 5 eggsLooks nice

This review is from: ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC600 Wi-Fi Adapter (USB-AC51)

Pros: Small and shinny. The software GUI is pretty.. :/

Cons: As others have stated the supplied drivers don't work with win8.1 and the new, "8.1" drivers work poorly at best. Unlike some reviews I'm able to connect on the 5 gig band, but unable on 2.4...
The adapter doesn't lose connection, but it's terribly slow. Best I've managed was around 26mbps, which is pathetic.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure if the adapter's poor performance is all OS related or if it's simply a poor piece of hardware.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsasus wireless ac adapter

This review is from: ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC600 Wi-Fi Adapter (USB-AC51)

Pros: Allows me to assess my wifi network. It also seems like the perfect size to take in and out of usb slots.(not too big or small)

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I haven't tested range on this. It is connected to a htpc in my living room about 15ft from my router so range is not really an issue for me.

1 out of 5 eggsLinux support stated, hardly provided

This review is from: ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC600 Wi-Fi Adapter (USB-AC51)

Pros: For the price, it seems to be a decent network adapter

Cons: The Linux drivers provided on their website aren't exactly user-friendly, nor do they seem to want to compile given any kind of prodding at all. I'm returning this and grabbing something better-supported, because I'm over it.

5 out of 5 eggsfinally wifi and HD video can coexist!

This review is from: ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC600 Wi-Fi Adapter (USB-AC51)

Pros: small, cheapest adaptor with AC 5 gig support
gives me between 8 and 12. megabytes 120 megabits a second! not to shabby! the best I Was getting out of my old N standard was 4megs a second. purchases a cheap trend net router with AC wifi and it all seems to be working well together!

Cons: wifi specs a re still a big fat lie! lol thistle my router says they can deliver 43 megabytes 430 megabits a second! poppycock ! in your wildest dreams with both the router and the adaptor Ina faraday cage! ...with 4foot antennas and signal boosters....maybe...just maybe!!! still for now I'll take the doubling of my home wifi speed, which will allow HD streaming!

1 out of 5 eggsNoop not for Ubuntu 14.04

This review is from: ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC600 Wi-Fi Adapter (USB-AC51)

Pros: Smallish and would make a nice door stop for a mouse

Cons: No drivers supplied, and the code included can't be complied without help. My brother would builds drivers updated var types that now need to be structures, to get it to build. The resulting drive sort of works a 2.4GHZ and not at all a 5GHZ, although an IP is obtain and the SID connected. Purchased two of these cause of the description here/newegg that said Linux supported.

Other Thoughts: Oh, this is the only product I've used on Linux that cause the graphic console to abort back to ttys. Added feature is the complete lockup of the display requiring a cold boot.....

2 out of 5 eggsasus USB-AC51

This review is from: ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC600 Wi-Fi Adapter (USB-AC51)

Pros: Very small and aesthetically good looking item. Too bad that it does not work on Windows 8.1. Calling customer service (Half Hour wait) does not help at all since you are speaking to illiterate Indians (not the type with the feathers but the gals in Bangalore!).Works well with W 7 Prof.

Cons: Why claim that it works on W8.1 when it does not. The item I bought it for is a brand new Toshiba laptop S855 etc. You cannot install the drivers on W 8.1

Other Thoughts: Get a new Driver CD so that it will work on Windows 8.1
