Experience simultaneous dual-band connectivity and enjoy 300Mbps speed in the 2.4GHz frequency and up to 433Mbps in 5GHz band - that's up to 3X faster a traditional 802.11n router.

The RT-AC52U has 128MB of memory built in, so it will remain fast and stable no matter what you throw at it. With high-power design that amplifies transmission, RT-AC52U delivers a Wi-Fi signal that's up to 150% stronger than competing models - so you can enjoy reliable connections in all corners of your home and well into the garden. Obstacles are no obstacle to RT-AC52U.

Thanks to its multipurpose USB port, the RT-AC52U is much more than just a router. Plug in a USB hard disk drive and you've got an instant file server - and one that extends into the cloud via ASUS AirCloud technology! Alternatively, attach a USB printer to RT-AC52U to create a print server - great for sharing one device with several users. The USB even accommodates 3G/4G mobile broadband dongles, so you can have two broadband (WAN) connections on one router - so you'll never again have to worry about your Internet access going down. The port can even be used for powering gadgets such as smartphones and tablets, so RT-AC52U doubles up as a handy charging station.

Setting up RT-AC52U is extremely simple with the easy-to-use ASUSWRT dashboard - you'll be up and running in just 30 seconds! It includes loads of advanced but easy-to-use networking features, such as quality-of-service (QoS) prioritization, parental controls, dual WAN management, network mapping and printer sharing, IPv6 for the next-generation web and Dynamic DNS support. It even includes a VPN server that's simplicity to configure, so you can set up private, secure remote access to your home network.

World's Fastest AC Wi-Fi

Powered by 5th generation Wi-Fi (5G Wi-Fi), the new 802.11ac chipset gives the RT-AC52U up to 3X faster wireless speeds than N technology. At 2.4GHz, it reaches 300Mbps, while on the 5GHz band it blazes to 433Mbps - or triple 802.11n rates. That's 733Mbps of concurrent wireless power!

5 out of 5 eggsDelivers Far More Than Anticipated

Pros: I did not think the router would make such a significant impact on the speed on my internet, but I was definitely proven wrong with this router. It delivers far more than I would have expected. The 2.4 ghz has excellent range and delivers amazing speed. The 5ghz channel is superb and has decent range. The router setup page is very easy to configure with little to no knowledge. In conclusion, this is the best router out there for the price.

Cons: Not much can be for the cons except the 5ghz band could have better range.

3 out of 5 eggsNice router, having trouble with Throughput

Pros: Nice GUI, Cheap AC access

This is a nice little router, the VPN client and server are very nice touches, I also like the QoS portion of this AP as well. I can use RDP on my server from work, I can also work from home and changing computers while doing so is easy thanks to the VPN client on this router.

Cons: No GigE port and slow throughput...

I am having a lot of trouble with AC throughput on this router. I am using Steam Stream with this, I have my gaming machine attached with eth and my laptop with an USB 3.0 AC adapter. I have a lot of trouble with "slow network" when trying to use Steam like this, obviously I am limited on the ethernet port at is it only 10/100, but the wireless connection (forcing AC on the usb adapter) has terrible throughput... even speedtests to my ISP are half what they should be, and I'm only 2 ft from my router. My Mac on 5ghz is great from the same place in my house. This is sort of a big deal for me and I am honestly a little angry about it, thinking of buying another router and I've only had this one for about 6 months.

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if this router came with expansion ports for external antennas, with the option for me to buy some later on. It would also be great if this router had SSH access built in, I like Asus and they seem to be blooming into the sub-enterprise portion of the market, it would be nice if they made basic enterprise features available too.

2 out of 5 eggsFind another

Pros: It looks nice with the sleek body and flashing blue lights and it has support for 6in4 IPv6 tunnels

Cons: It doesn't work well. I bought it to stream stuff from my laptop to my Chomecast and it can't handle the traffic, even though Asus marketing says it can. The logs get flooded with some "out of space" message and the router ends up rebooting itself.

Other Thoughts: It's going back

2 out of 5 eggsIf it works

Pros: Fast on the 5ghz connection of course.

Cons: Stops working randomly. This happens from time to time. When it works, its good, but when it doesnt, well your out of luck. Nothing special for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great in our small apartment

Pros: I installed this in our small apartment. We have a fairly fast (60 Mbps) cable internet connection, and the router does a good job getting close to that speed throughout the space. In fact, the apartment has a surprising number of walls for something so small, but the signal penetrates just fine, despite a lack of antennae. Setup was easy. The lights on it are helpful and easy to read.

Cons: I can't think of anything serious. I guess the signal doesn't extend far into the parking lot outside the apartment, so it is sometimes hard to get to that email that comes in just as I'm about to leave, but that's really inconsequential.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent for the Price

Pros: Versatile USB Port. See the manual for more details.

Great wireless strength in a two-story house with regular ol' drywall walls. DO NOT use auto channel.

Cons: Construction-wise, it feels a bit flimsy.

The auto wifi channel feature for the 2.4 GHz band is faulty. DO NOT use the auto setting under "control channel" for the 2.4GHz band. Set the channel manually and the strength should be great.

Not exactly getting true 802.11n transfer speeds between wireless devices on the LAN. Looks like this is where the price comes in.

The firmware should have more info and features. Wireless signal strength info, opened upnp port info, manual duplex settings for the ethernet ports, and ssh support come to mind.

Other Thoughts: As the title says: it's decent for the price: the signal remains stable (as long as you don't use auto channel) and you get a usb port for file transfers, media streaming, and, of course, printer sharing.

No PC's or devices in this house have gigabit ethernet ports nor do we have gigabit internet service, so lack of gigabit ports isn't a big issue.

It's also a great idea to keep the firmware up to date. You can get it at this device's page on the ASUS site.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I needed it to do

Pros: Easy set up, good range, USB port could be a bonus, dual band

Cons: no external antennas (maybe)

Other Thoughts: Bought two of these to use in my house, replacing two other routers I had in a WDS setup. House isn't big, but where the main router / modem are acts like a Faraday cage with all the a/c ducts. I hooked up the main router, went through the setup (very easy), and all was working well. Went to the second, hooked my wife's desktop to it, and got it set to the repeater function in about 5 minutes. The signal was a bit inconsistent until I locked the channel down. Now, no issues, and having the 5Ghz band is a bonus. I don't have anything using 802.11ac yet, but nice to know I have the option of moving to it. Haven't tried the USB functionality on the router yet, so can't comment on that.

5 out of 5 eggsWell Worth the Money.

Pros: Signal strength pretty darn good.
Optional USB port Cam in hand for morn than just network storage.

Cons: To be honest I didn't see anything at all in the con side as of yet. You would think when you buy cheap that's exactly what you get. In this case, that's so far from the truth it's ridiculous. Asus, needs to start putting their products out on the market and giving Linksys and netgear a run for their money now.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid budget AC

Pros: Dual band AC for $70
Fast wireless on 2.4ghz with no interference with other devices on 2.4 band that my old router had.
The UI for setup is very simplified and easy to use.
I have had no connection issues (signal loss/reboots)

Cons: From my room (20ft diagonally through 3 walls) the 5ghz is relatively low signal. This may be because I'm on my smartphone which may have less power on this band. I currently don't have ac on my laptop and will update if I get a stronger signal.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to use the 5ghz band you're better off in the same room or through as few walls as possible. Otherwise this router has little to no interference with other devices and works very well for the price. I would recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade an aging router and looking for ac.
