5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1300 PCI-E Adapter

Pros: Pretty darn fast. I haven't been able to narrow the smart router I want just yet. But while connected to my old dual-band N router I'm pulling 100% of the up and down speeds I'm paying through my IPS wirelessly. The router is placed on a lower level at the complete opposite end of my house. With my old card and machine it needed to be in the same room to pull about 90% of full speeds.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The antenna extender mount base thing is magnetic. So it stick to the side of your case or to a desk / filing cabinet which is cool.

1 out of 5 eggsBelongs in the TRASH

This review is from: ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1300 PCI-E Adapter

Pros: Looks cool...

Cons: I have never had so much trouble with one product in my entire life. I have been building computers for over 8 years now and I can honestly say this is the biggest waste of money I was never able to get this thing to work....NOT ONCE. My pc would recognize it for a min or two the the device would disappear but I know it's not the slot because other devices work just fine in it. If only 1 person reads this review and changes their mind I have done my job please steer clear of this JUNK.

Other Thoughts: Do not waste your money on this.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent range and signal!

This review is from: ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1300 PCI-E Adapter

Pros: Had to move router to one corner of the house, and my PC to far opposite side, for reasons. Anyways my old N usb stick couldn't keep a stable connection anymore so I grabbed one of these. Amazing difference, and I'm not even using ac yet! Signal strength changed from 48% to 80%

Cons: Not gonna knock an egg off for it but the extension cable could have been a bit longer, as it's only about 3 feet long.

Other Thoughts: So far so good. Will update if anything changes.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Wifi connection I've had

This review is from: ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1300 PCI-E Adapter

Pros: This thing is amazingly fast, I've got it connected via 5Ghz, and I'm getting about 370(ish)Mbps consistently from/to the router. Web Pages load instantly.

Cons: The low signal indicated by windows is deceptive, advise running some speed tests before troubleshooting low bar issues.

Other Thoughts: Although it only shows as 2-3 bars (maybe half of full strength), it blows my older 2.4Ghz wifi card (that had full bars) out of the water. The old card had an average of 50-70Mbps.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1300 PCI-E Adapter

Pros: works as advertised; great range; fast, reliable connection; solid construction

Cons: was a little difficult to install initially. turns out you have to disable or install any firewall/antivirus/spam programs. afterward, the programs can be reinstalled without issue

4 out of 5 eggsIt Works Really Well

This review is from: ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1300 PCI-E Adapter

Pros: Definite improvement in what used to be a dead zone.
Works through several 1.5 in. thick walls (Note in other thoughts)*
Easy Set-up & Install.
Works incredibly well at times*

Cons: (Just nitpicking since there aren't any major cons)
Mounting and adjusting the antennas on the mountable attachment will sometimes result in screwing off an antenna by accident, a bit annoying.
Not a lot of places to use the magnetic mount besides the casing (The extension cable on the mount covers a lot more area than just the casing so it might be a waste not to find something to put it on if needed).

Other Thoughts: (Always be sure to update the drivers)
I can't really fault the product for my situation, I'd say that my situation was worth 1 egg (since I basically ordered this product to fix said situation) so I'm taking it off based on my overall experience with the product in the situation.
*While it did help me by turning my dead zone room into a room that can potentially get 50 Mbps out of 60 possible (Based on Ethernet cable speeds), it tends to fluctuate a lot due to the walls between the modem & my room resulting in anywhere from 0.10 Mbps to 52 Mbps download speed (Ping and Upload fluctuate less on more of a normal level), even when the mounted antennas are perfectly still (I experimented to see where would get the best spot, but the results varied too much for me to get a specific area), so this isn't something I'd necessarily recommend for people looking to try have the signal pass through several thick walls (Basically any gamer that needs constant online access as well as streamers or people who browse video sites and watch vids in HD).
Otherwise this product couldn't be better.
I've tested it several times next to the router/modem itself and it seems to work perfectly fine, even got as fast as when I was on wired connection.
Will try to update if any changes occur with this product.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks...for a while

This review is from: ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1300 PCI-E Adapter

Pros: When I first installed this adapter, it provided HUGE throughput with my RT-AC68U router. However, after about 9 months I started experiencing problems...

Cons: ...after about 9 months I started experiencing problems. The ASUS WLAN software would refuse to "see" the adapter. Then I built a new PC- i7 4790K CPU, Gigabyte MoBo, Windows 7 Ultimate / 64, 16 GB of G.Skill RAM. After installing Windows 7/64 and installing all updates and chipset drivers via Ethernet, I installed the AC1300 adapter and loaded the latest version of the software. The software did not find tha adapter, no matter what I did. I was using on-board video, so the AC1300 was the ONLY board in the system. Even so, the ASUS software never "saw" that the board was installed. So- a CLEAN system, brand new Win7 installation with all the latest chipset drivers, and the ONLY software installed was the ASUS WLAN utility / drivers.... and it STILL didn't work.

Other Thoughts: I've read of others experiencing this problem, but I haven't heard of anything ASUS is doing to address it.
