5 out of 5 eggsWorks well with routers that nothing else connect to.

This review is from: ASUS USB-AC55 Dual-Band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: I haven't had any problems with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. Works incredibly well, pulls down packets quickly. Granted I have a direct line of sight to my router so my use case is really simple.

It is also the only 5ghz device I have that can connect to my Linksys router, so it has that going for it.

Cons: None, has worked flawlessly.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS USB-AC55 Dual-Band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: It Connected to wireless.

Cons: This product isn't worth much. I installed it and everything worked till I shut down the computer. When I turned on the computer the next time, it connected to the 5 GHz channel, but dropped packets. Lots of Packets. When going to www.google.com it took about 3 minutes to load. I changed from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz and it uninstalled the 5 GHz drivers and installed the 2.4 GHz drives. (This happens every time you change from 2.4 to 5.) Once I had it on 2.4 it worked until I shut down the computer again. Over all I am having issues with this product. After about a week for using it I can a cat6 cable in the attic. Up one wall and down the other so I would have to use this anymore. I would have never bought this product but it came free with a bundle of a wireless router and had a $20 rebate on it.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy this product again.
I will work but there is going to be about 15 minutes of trouble shooting every time you turn on your computer.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy This

This review is from: ASUS USB-AC55 Dual-Band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: Packaged with a USB extension base/holder.

Cons: -Drops packets like crazy.
-Drivers are REALLY bad.
-Install with latest drivers does not fix the problem.

Other Thoughts: I'd rather get a straight up refund or be swapped to a PCIe WiFI card that isn't terrible. I ended up switching to a Buffalo USB adapter that has been amazing while my ASUS literally just collects dust on my desk.

3 out of 5 eggsNew Driver Needed

This review is from: ASUS USB-AC55 Dual-Band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: Looks good.
Okay connection speed(actual speed is about 500mbps when accessing files on my NAS.)
New driver makes this adapter works just fine.

Cons: LED light can not be turned off at night.
Old drivers are terrible, you need to download the 09/2015 driver from ASUS Asia website, not the North America website.

Other Thoughts: It's cheap enough for a ac1200 adapter.

3 out of 5 eggsProblem not just with Asus

This review is from: ASUS USB-AC55 Dual-Band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: I don't know.

Cons: The issues that the other posters were having.

Other Thoughts: I am sorry to see that this Wi-Fi adapter is having these problems. I saw someone recommend this one on the NetGear site. I was trying to install the NetGear AC1200. Apparently they are having major issues with their drivers as well. I think it has got to be the new Windows 10. I guess I will just have to wait until everyone gets their drivers to be compatible with Windows 10.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

My sincerest apologies to hear that our ASUS products did not meet your expectations. We will be glad to help you out with any issues you may encounter on our products. I do understand that you're having an issue with the drivers. 1 out of 5 eggsPurchase not recommended.

This review is from: ASUS USB-AC55 Dual-Band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: Fast-ish during the little time it works.
USB extender.
Looks okay.

Cons: Constant drops in connection.
Frequent time-outs in latency.
Terrible drivers.

Other Thoughts: My first ever malfunction with ASUS products and it's a big one. Seems I am not the only one. This is, by far, the worst adapter I have ever owned. Barely keeps connection even on 2.4GHz. Constant spikes in latency, if not timing out all together. I have uninstalled/reinstalled drivers too many times to even count. I've followed every single instruction you could possibly ever search for on Google (yes, that includes the stupid simple instructions that are being given above/below me by ASUS support). I've tried the drivers that someone suggested in these reviews here with no success. This adapter is far worse than my 5+ year old, barely working Linksys that I was trying to replace.

In short, go with something else. Don't disregard the negative reviews on this like I did simply because ASUS is usually good. I will be questioning ASUS products from now on, something I never did before because they never disappointed until this atrocity of an adapter reached my PC.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsPreliminarily - great on 2.4ghz with extension--but...

This review is from: ASUS USB-AC55 Dual-Band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: my ethernet speed is about 88/12. Avoided cd, used plug and play. with Windows 10x64 and TM-AC-1900 router. got 88/12 within 3 feet using included usb 3.0 extender. ... but.. it did not show 5 ghz connection. downstairs about 40 feet away 1st time got 87/12 wow! Later tests showed speed dropped to mid 40s to mid 60s download and 6mg/s download.

Cons: when removed usb 3.0 extender speed dropped to mid 20s download and 2-3mg/s download. Disappointing.

Other Thoughts: Use with the usb extender requires unnecessary space and takes away from compatness.

1 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with Windows 10

This review is from: ASUS USB-AC55 Dual-Band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: I am usually satisfied with Asus products

Cons: I just mounted a new computer with an Asus Z87-Pro V Edition motherboard that lacks Wi-Fi.
Since I have a tri-band AC router I looked at all the USB AC Adapters and was surprised that none allows a higher speed that the 866Mbps on the AC band (the remaining 400Mbps to reach the 1300Mbps announced by the manufacturer is on the N band).
This one is USB3 and the same manufacturer as my motherboard so I figured I would get the best possible compatibility.
As I plugged it in it was immediately recognized but couldn't join any wireless network, the device reboots when trying to join a network.
I immediately went back to Ethernet, went onto Asus website to get the latest Windows 10 64bit drivers, none is available as they state that the drivers are built in Windows 10.
I then proceeded to calling Asus customer service, they are very patronizing and asked many questions that are not even remotely related to the issue, eventually after 20 minutes on the phone, they put me on hold only to tell me when they resume the phone call that this device is not compatible with Windows 10 and to check the website regularly.
I then asked when to expect the drivers to be developed for Windows 10 and was told "I believe the support team to work on that but we have no idea as to when it will be compatible.

Other Thoughts: Out of curiosity, I tried this device on a Windows 8.1 laptop. It is compatible, however the performances are bad, despite working on a USB 3 plug. The stock wireless N adapter of the laptop outperforms this Asus product. I am very disappointed and now have to return that one and search for a better adapter that is Windows 10 compatible...

2 out of 5 eggsGarbage

This review is from: ASUS USB-AC55 Dual-Band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: The Product is good but the drivers are junk

Cons: It makes you Install There Drivers and software, plus a USB 30 Driver, then I have to reinstall my Mother Board Usb 30 Driver to make it work right, and on Boot the software Sticks in your face instead of sitting on the task Bar, I have to click it to drop it down.

Other Thoughts: you should be able to plug it in go update driver and bang done, I like the router so far but again I am not using the wireless yet got disgusted with this usb .Maybe the Pci card works better I need to review that !
BTW I bought mine at a local shop .

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Adapter

This review is from: ASUS USB-AC55 Dual-Band Wireless-AC1300 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: Very fast wireless connection (2.4 Ghz). ASUS drivers from the website loaded without issue.

I got 150 Mbps download speed over the 2.4 Ghz band using this adapter on a USB 3.0 connection. I literally cannot ask for more. It connects to the access point at a rate of 300 Mbps, and literally 50% is download speed. I also got around 80 - 90 Mbps upload speed.

Cons: I don't have a 5 Ghz access point to test the other band with at this time.

Other Thoughts: - The ASUS utility is garbage. Please don't install it.
- For all the users that complain that this adapter isn't working, I really don't see it. I've been testing this adapter relentlessly and cannot find a hiccup. I am using it at work where I have access to a truly high speed data connection and excellent wireless routing equipment to remove as many variables as possible.
