1 out of 5 eggsNo Instructions for Android Install

Pros: none yet

Cons: Does come with cd, but no instructions on how to install drives, either on CD or on the website. Submitted an on-line help request. Hopefully they will respond. Bought this because I have ASUS tf-201, which has notoriously bad wifi. Purchased a usb powered mini-repeater, and that helps quite a bit. But it's a little bulkier than this device. Have never bothered to figure out how to root an android device, so I hope the instructions, when and if they materialize, will be comprehensive and not expect me to figure out the intricacies of the ANdroid operating system.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

The installation on Android OS is not included because it requires the SDK, USB debugging, and a the third-part adb software to access Terminal on Windows.

The files included in the Android driver files are based on Linux, so the installation would be the same as installing a driver on Linux.

Ralinktech (RT2870) may have more information to answer this installation process for Android OS.

Thank you for leaving us your valuable feedback.

5 out of 5 eggsWireless Adapter

Pros: Small, but powerful. Had to play around with setting up my wireless a little, but works great. Have it attached to desktop in back of house, while router is in front...Good signal! I would recommend.

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsDoes its job.

Pros: Light weight, easy to conceal behind rig, works perfect after installing drivers.

Cons: Link/Act LED is DOA, that's not an issue however, as long as it connects. Something inside is rattling, what I'm guessing is the broken sauder. Again, not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: For the price it was an excellent buy. Needed a cheap way to access internet wirelessly on my new rig. This works wonderfully. Getting 54 mbps on a 20 mbps, doesen't make sense imho but it's like greased lightning.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks Decently, Plug and Play in Linux

Pros: This wi-fi usb dongle has decent performance, and is plug and play for Linux systems.

Unlike the surprisingly poor Belkin F5D7050 it replaced, it hasn't dropped a connection once, whereas the 7050 dropped the internet connection constantly and needed to be taken out and plugged back in for it to work again.

The device came with a mini-cd that had drivers for Windows, Mac, Linux, and even Android

Cons: The dongle is a weird shape (a small, big eraser-sized box with a stiff 6 inch cord attached to it) and pretty much requires a USB extension cable to be placed anywhere useful/reachable.

The wireless signal strength is not that good either. Not unusably poor, just not that great more than one room away from a router. It can get about 50% connectivity 2 rooms away, and 60% downstairs when the router is upstairs.

Other Thoughts: The package this device came in was labeled "IOCREST" not Syba. The package only made mention of Windows 7 compatibility, but don't be fooled, it has drivers for Mac and Linux as well.

Despite the not so good connectivity, I was able to download files up to 1.4 gigs in size with no problems. I was also able to maintain an internet connection for hours with no inexplicable connection drops or any need to reboot the device.

For $9.99 and free shipping, I can't complain and am satisfied. If you need a cheap wi-fi solution for your non wi-fi ready PC, and you're going to use that PC only 1 room away from your wi-fi router, this product is a good investment.

It's especially good for Linux computers. It was literally just plug and play on both Ubuntu 12.04 and Linux Mint 14.

1 out of 5 eggsNot very good

Pros: None - Well shipping was fast, Newegg did it's part well.

Cons: I purchased this thing for an android device. Android was clearly listed in big capitol letters. But, there are no android drivers. The drivers listed in the android driver folder are for Windows CE, no android drivers found online either. My android device doesn't even see the wireless adapter. I tried the adapter on a Windows device and it barely picked up my router in the next room. The onboard wireless adapter on the windows device picks up routers at over 500 feet. This is really a terrible product

Other Thoughts: If you need an external wireless adapter for an android device forget it. I don't think there are any. If you need a wireless adapter for a windows or linux device there are adapters out there that work very well. This wireless adapter isn't one of them.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

The Android driver is on the CD. In case if you can not find it, you may also download it from our website.

Regarding the poor receiption, there are few testings you can do. May be it is not all caused by our adapter:

1. Make sure the driver is installed correctly.
2. Make sure the settings on our adapter match your router settings.
3. Play with the position of the adapter a little bit. Point the adapter to different directions.

Please contact our technical support team if you are still having trouble using this adapter with your Android device.

Our technical support team is available to help 9am-5pm M-F. Feel free to contact us during those business hours at support@sybausa.com

SYBA offers an online RMA form, the user can easily fill out the form and submit it for a quick RMA return and exchange. It is SYBA's policy to answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours (M-F)
