SonicWall’s rackable SSL-VPN 2000 is a clientless remote access appliance, to give your employees secure, reliable access to your company’s network. The SSL-VPN 2000 works behind your firewall, and it’s incredibly easy to install, configure and manage. SonicWall doesn’t charge per-tunnel licensing with the SSL-VPN (the unit doesn’t restrict concurrent tunnel numbers, though SonicWall recommends 50), so your company can give remote access to everyone who needs it! Once their policies are set, all they will need is a computer with a standard web browser.
Granular policy configuration controls let your network administrator give each user access to everything he needs, and nothing more, and it couldn’t be easier, thanks to SonicWall’s intuitive GUI. Once users log in and authenticate, they’ll see their individualized Virtual Office portals, where they can access all of their permitted files, bookmarks, and the NetExtender utility, which creates an encrypted tunnel to the user’s computer for that session. Don’t let VPN access be a constant hassle for your IT folks! The SSL-VPN 2000 makes it secure and painless for administrators and users alike.
Pros: The system is very easy to upgrade and maintain. The security is very good as well. The applications that we use through this are fantastic. The remote access as a VPN into the network with NetExtender is wonderful. The applications like RDP both use activex and Java so we even have Apple computers connecting to the networks as well.
Cons: Not many at all. I have noticed that our network throughput slows down our connection to the device, but that has nothing to do with the device.

Excellent Solution Except the NetExtender
Reviewed By: on 9/24/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Very easy for remote end users to download and upload files from the office. Integrates with Active Directory. Relatively easy set up. GUI very similar to Sonicwall firewalls.
Cons: Net Extender software is garbage. While running you can't access your local network, Exchange or SQL (probably not an issue for home users). It is buggy and frequently disconnects (big problem). It is OK for a quick RDS but is not reliable for longer access greater than 15 minutes. The optional CA was difficult to set up and the instructions were not helpful. The SSLVPN only checks passwords against AD, you still have to create the user accounts on the unit. Requires JAVA and doesn't play well with mobile devices.
Other Thoughts: This is a great product if you only intend it for easy web based file access. The price is a bit steep compared to the SSL VPN 200, but I opted for the 2000 to insure no performance issues with concurrent users. I knocked off 1 star for the NetExtender. Our employees only use it for file access and I have received no complaints. It is very quick to upload or download a file remotely from our server. I tried to use the NetExtender for remote administration and found it very unreliable and frustrating. I prefer to use the Sonicwall Global VPN client on my laptop for RDS.

No Console Port Connectivity!
Reviewed By: George on 2/2/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: I can only speak for the RDP5 ActiveX connections as that's all we use, but overall it's a great device for its price point.
However...
Cons: The console port doesn't actually do anything. Yes there's a physical serial port on the device, and yes, it inexplicably ships with a console cable, but it is permanently disabled on the SSL-VPN 2000 and 4000.
Other Thoughts: From the support documentation:
Does the SSL-VPN appliance have a CLI?
No, it does not. The console ports on the SSL-VPN 2000 and SSL-VPN 4000 appliance are disabled and cannot be accessed. The SSL-VPN 200 appliance does not have a console port.
