5 out of 5 eggsNot cheap. Yearly fee, but does job well.

Pros: Powerful tool. Will protect your ENTIRE network with antivirus, intrusion protection, and antispyware, and more.
Logging is excellent and you can tell who or what is hammering your ip addy. Very powerful setup and configuration.

Cons: To make this work at all, you need yearly subscriptions for all security services. ALL. If you get the basic AV/IP/Antispyware package, it costs about the same per year as PC based software for multiple PC's Worth it to me. But if you want software/firmware updates, you need yet another subscription. It adds up. If you have the $$$, then it is worth it.

Other Thoughts: I was surprised at how many probes were hitting my PC, and the PC based security software was not reporting it (two pc's, different security software). But the TZ100 detected, blocked, and logged them. There is a video on the Sonicwall site that shows you how to turn main features on. Help functions not all that helpful. NO tech support, at least live, of any kind, unless you get yet another subscription. For the home, this support is perhaps not necessary, but for a business with many connections, it may be.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding security for network

Pros: Fast. Very Configurable. Outstanding security. Actually has firewall, antivirus, blacklists, antispam, antimalware, intrusion prevention. Keeps everything nasty from your network.

Cons: None really. Not cheap. It is very complex to setup, but not that bad if you have any savvy. Needs yearly subscription to operate features. There are different levels of subscriptions. Very reasonable.

Other Thoughts: Needs the subscription to keep working and get constant updates. I love it. You can get the suscriptions with the unit, from Sonicwall, or some other third parties. Subscription for stand security features is very reasonable... just a little more than getting security software subscriptions for multiple computers. But what is nice about the unit is the ENTIRE network is protected, including NAS, dvrs, servers, etc. The logging is excellent....I discovered I was have a LOT of attacks, including one persistent one from overseas who was really determined to hack me..."he" gave up. This product is FAR superior to any PC based security software.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: great product, bought it back in 12/2010 and works like a champ. replaced an old linksys that served its purpose, but eventually gave up the ghost. tons of features built into the software.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: Great performance and stability. Flawless site-to-site VPN tunnels. Very long up times under heavy loads.

Cons: Can be a chore if you're a first time user of Sonicwall. Once you get used to it it's not so bad. Very reliable.
VoIP can sometimes be an issue as the security is too high for VoIP with some PBX providers like Asterisk based servers.
Tech support is garbage. Great product if you don't need the tech support.

Other Thoughts: I've installed and configured about 20+ Sonicwall's from TZ170/150 and the newer TZ100/200. They have all been reliable. Other than the tech support and hard to figure out port forwarding, these things are extremely stable.
I've never used the add-ons like content filtering and AV gateway. I heard they will slow the processor down a lot unless you get a higher end model.
If you've only dealt with Linksys and Netgear based routers, then you're in for a learning curve as these are commercial based routers/firewalls.
To the guy that cannot factory reset his Sonicwall. There's a button on the back you hold in. Has not failed me yet even though you might have to try more than once. Google how to reset it.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Sonicwall products are reliable. They last a long time and are feature rich

Cons: Sonicwall support has gone downhill over the years. I think these routers are designed to be complicated so you have to call tech support to do the smallest thing. There are about four steps just to open a port. You have to pay high dollar for the gateway av filtering every year, about the same cost of the router, and again, you HAVE to do the support, because it is next to do anything with it on your own, unless youwant to read the 1200 page manual online, and even then, you need a rocket science degree to figure it out. Most tech support is overseas, and the last time I called, I had to wait almost 40 minutes to get a tech. NOT acceptable for the high prices they charge to keep support in effect.

Other Thoughts: Sonicwall business practices are predatory, they WILL NOT talk to you until you register on their website. You have to go thru hell if you buy a used one, have to send them a picture of the serial number to prove you have it in your hands, then they verify with the previous owner that you can touch it. THERE IS NO FACTORY RESET on this device, you have to call tech support if you forget your password. If you let your warranty slip for more than a month or two, then need and are willing to PAY their high tech support fees, they charge you a $65 reinstatement fee, and then RETROACTIVE your support back to the day after it expired. So, if you wait six months, then call them up and pay for a year of support, you will get six months of support as it is retroactive. This is a predatory business practice, and because of this I am going back to the Linksys/Cisco RV042. It's not as fast, but its simple and gets the job done.

5 out of 5 eggsBest money I have ever spent!

Pros: Every configuration option imaginable in one device. This firewall will allow you to setup multiple static ip's from your ISP through one port going over to any destination port of your choosing. While still allowing a private LAN for internal machines.

Cons: Not really a con, but a word of advice to new people who are not use to complex firewalls. This one will require a lot of patience if you don't understand how firewalls work. Even with the wizards they won't help you in doing advanced operations.

Other Thoughts: This firewall is made for serious businesses, who have a good knowledge of firewalls. If your considering this for a SMB, make sure tech staff understands how to set this up before implementing. Or setup in a test environment first.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Device

Pros: Easy and Effective!
(almost) Everthing you want to know about your network traffic in a easy to use web interface. Easy setup, easy management. Blocking malware and unwanted traffic at the gateway is absolutely a necessity for any business network now days.

Cons: Setup without using the wizards is difficult at best. Use the wizards for oh-so-easy setups of i-net connections, servers, etc.

Other Thoughts: Router allows for two internet connections, perfect for bandwidth sharing / failover. Great feature for such a small router.

4 out of 5 eggsGood SOHO for small networks

Pros: The pros are it handles quite a bit of features you would want in a SOHO environment, but not wanting to spend a lot of money. It handles VPN connections which is good for the small teams that are on teh road, but need office resources like printers (instead of a fax, we have our remote people print to specific printers), good options, and over all solid performance. It also handles site to site vpn, which is very nice when you have two or more offices.

Cons: As far a corporate type firewalls, it is not complicated. Compared to residential routers/firewalls, there is a learning curve. Not so much a con, but it is something you should be aware of if this is your first time setting one up.

Other Thoughts: wish the WAPs were not so expensive

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Awesome

Pros: Everything. This is your all in one solution for a firewall for the home. I had this up an running in about 15 minutes and had no issues what so ever.

Cons: The default password is no where to be found, at least I didn't see it anywhere. Within 2 tries I was in since it is one of the more common default passwords. Documentation is also available on the web instead of in the box.

Other Thoughts: If your looking for a Home Hardware Firewall this is a perfect choice. Don't think about it, this is a business class firewall for the home. More features than most will know what to do with.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat FW for cost

Pros: Easy to set up and great firewall. No node limits. Great VPN support. Load balancing, dual WAN, VLANs.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Great FW. This is not for your average home user. If it is too complicated for you to configure, then go back to the home class products. 21 years in the business or otherwise, you are not a network professional if you can not set these up without support. They are easy if you have experience in the field. Great feature set.
