1 out of 5 eggsDo Not BUY Sonicwall Devices

Pros: The Device works

Cons: You do not get any Tech-support when you buy the device.
You have to purchase tech support from day 1. ifyou don't keep it up to date. they pro rate and take what ever days you missed back.

I never heard of a company that would not support a brand new divice.

Other Thoughts: Find something else.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's a Sonicwall.

Pros: Works as expected, EXTREMELY configurable, and still VPN's well with all the old 'non-dell' sonicwall routers.

Cons: Expensive and difficult to setup unless your very familiar with router theory and Sonicwall jargon. I own a IT business, and while I respect Sonicwall, I still use open source router solutions where appropriate because the GUI's often make more sense to me.

Other Thoughts: Sonicwall was recently acquired by dell, and this is the first 'dell' unit I've gotten. It appears they've upped the price slightly, and added wireless at this price point. Not a terrible balance.

Sonicwall is a very secure and robust device capable of almost anything - if YOU can configure it to do so. Be honest with your inner geek, and if it's not strong enough, buy another unit. Please don't blame Sonicwall because you cannot get it configured - it's likely this router just isn't for you or your application.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Product

Pros: Solid, very flexible configuration options, good VPN throughput. Really full featured networking appliance for the money.

Cons: You may need to read the very long admin guide if you get lost...but most answers are there. Don't like the fact that you only get access to firmware updates for 90 days without renewing license.

Other Thoughts: Have deployed two wired and one wireless version of the TZ100. The setup does require a bit of network knowledge but these are extremely flexible devices. I support three separate networks with site to site vpn's using these devices and I have no complaints.. You can create separate subnets for each port and have them supported by a single DHCP server- very useful when trying to provide public wireless access while maintaining LAN security or using SBS 2011 DHCP services for the secured lan. Cant speak to tech support as I have not engaged their services.

1 out of 5 eggsRUN AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!

Pros: none that I have found

Cons: Thinking SonicWall? Think again! I have a SonicWall unit that is less than 10 months old. It hasn't worked for 3 months. The tech support is out of the US, has unbelievably long wait times (as long as 50 minutes wait on one call) and when you finally do get through they are not only absolutely useless, bu they refuse to honor their warranty! RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

Other Thoughts: You'd better believe I'll be a lot more careful choosing my next company!

5 out of 5 eggsSolved many problems

Pros: I was able to solve many network problems in a very busy network which consisted of several Servers, IP Phones, VPN and workstations. This router enhanced throughput and increased our security. Definitely a must for a corporate environment.

Cons: - Very complicated to manage - make sure to train and read manual carefully.
- Wireless signal is not the best, but worked just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Little Appliance

Pros: Very feature rich for the price; so many features it can seem overwhelming at first, but it doesn't take long and you can control every aspect of your network.

Wide array of VPN options, more than some appliances costing 4x as much.

Built in load balancing of both WAN connections, as well as incoming traffic to your servers.

Sonicwall tech support is fantastic, they will remote in and walk through everything with you until they find out exactly what the issue is.

Cons: None really. Limited site to site tunnels, but if you need more than 5 you should go a few models up.

Other Thoughts: The other reviewer that said it is complex and hard, as well as does not "support certain business applications" clearly has no clue how to manage a network. Once you configure the firewall & NAT properly you can manage traffic at a very granular level, as a good business class should.

I have actually worked with quite a few offices that used this model, as well as higher TZ Models and NSA models. They are all fantastic. Just upgrade the firmware to the latest before you get started.

3 out of 5 eggsUnexpected limitations

Pros: router has many functions but they are buried in an overly complicated proprietary format which requires manufacturer assistance to configure normal business functions. The first device would not configure and stopped communicating during the initial setup process. neweggs rma process was outstanding and fast the replacement worked correctly.

Cons: I asked around and read reviews but did not see a major limitation on the wireless networking. It will not work for database related functions on the wireless networking. It cannot be used for most business software over the wireless network which seems like a severe limitation for a business device.

Other Thoughts: I wish the device parameters specified the wireless limitation on corporate database software since as a business device i would not have purchased it knowing i could not use it for my offices main software over the wireless connection.
