2 out of 5 eggsWorked well for under a year

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Fast
Comes with a Cradle
External Antennas
Dual Band

Cons: Intermittent / spotty connectivity after a few months
Had to take it out and plug it back sometimes
Stopped working after a little under a year

Other Thoughts: I guess the old adage "you get what you pay for" applies here. It worked great at first, then it would stop all of a sudden for no reason and I'd have to take the thing out and plug it back in to get it working again, and today, a little less than a year after I got it, it failed completely.

Thankfully, the extension / cradle it came with still works, so I plugged in my old Rosewill wireless N (single band) adapter into the cradle and it works fine. Mind you, that single-antenna Rosewill wireless N adapter is around 2 years old now, and cost me $10 when it was on sale. It was in use full time for well over a year and it's still going.

I recommend getting something else besides this adapter. A nice TP-Link if you want an "off-brand", or maybe a Rosewill one if it has good reviews. The TP-Link stuff I got for my relatives at the same time I bought this adapter are still good to go.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Dual Band Adapters!

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Great Dual Band Adapter.Connects and stays connected. Works well on both the 5ghz and 2.4ghz networks. QUALITY construction and updated drivers are on the Netis site. If you're in the market for a solid Dual band adapter, give this one a try.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggsWARNING: DO NOT BUY

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: It is a network adapter.

Cons: Can not install driver with out installing software.
Occasionally disconnects from the internet and says it can not find any access points until I reset it.
I can not connect to other computers using RDP with this adapter, the connects gets dropped every 15 seconds.

Other Thoughts: I would have returned it but didnt notice any of the bad things until it was too late. This is a complete waste of money because I now have to throw it in the trash and buy another one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Stuff!

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: I had bought this adapter to give my desktop a way to receive 5ghz, since it is a faster, stronger, and not riddled with interference issues. This thing does the job quite well. My router is a TP-Link Archer C7v2, which is a pretty good router. Although other adapters would only give me 3 bars max... Sometimes 4 on a perfect day.

Then came Netis! I get a constant 5 bars with this (and 4 on a bad day), through a ceiling, a few walls, and about 30 or more feet away from the router. It comes with a nifty cradle that I can use instead of plugging it right into the back of my Desktop, allowing me to put it wherever for a better signal. The best part is that this adapter only gets slightly warm at most, but never hot, even when working with a full load. So that means it's an adapter that's in this for the long haul.

It's 2.4ghz is also quite as good with a great link between the router and the adapter. However, 5ghz is superior for gaming and streaming, so I'll just stick to that.

Cons: Ralink Utility is necessary. The adapter can indeed run without it, but Netis might give you some issues between your computer and itself. You can mostly blame Windows need to "optimize" everything it touches. Either way, once the adapter is officially connected (as in for more than 30 seconds), then the connection should remain very consistent/strong.

Other Thoughts: Between the cost and performance, there's really no reason to doubt this wonderful adapter. I'm so glad I decided to take a chance and buy it. If it arrives dead, try again. It'll be worth it... Unless you wanna shove out 60 dollars for the same kinda thing elsewhere. :T

1 out of 5 eggsBought Two. Both Defective

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Decent speed when it works.

Cons: Both of the adapters I bought had a failure rate of once every roughly 3 hours. I think it may have due to overheating, since they were always warm to the touch each time they failed. They had plenty of ventilation where they were, with no heat source anywhere near them (no heater, no electronics near by), so it was heat produced by the adapters. My idea had been to use them for VNCing to a Mac from a Win7 PC for dev purposes. But I scrapped that idea and started using them both with one machine, so I could swap a cool one for a warm one, while I searched for a replacement. The replacements, refurbished and from a different (more well-known) brand, don't have big antennas on them and are connecting with comparable speeds and cost less to boot.

Other Thoughts: I decided to take a chance on a company I'd never heard of and it backfired. I don't know how so many people are giving this 5 stars on Newegg, yet a much lower rating elsewhere. If you ask me, you shouldn't buy these.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat AC Wireless USB adapter

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Getting over 800Mbs on this adapter on my old notebook that just had g wireless before. Really picks up the signals great. Easy install on Windows OS.

Cons: Poor Linux support, so far. Hard to get it working in Linux unless you are pretty experienced with the command line.

Other Thoughts: They do include a script file for Linux , but for the uninitiated getting support out to the linux repositories would bolster sales, and make it easy to use/install,. at least to the biggest ones like Ubuntu/Mint.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for wireless gaming

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Well... where to start?

Network stability and range: I average 4~5 bars of wifi strength from ~20 Ft. away from my modem separated by two walls.

Speed: From a 5GHz dualband wireless router, Speed Test gave this 55 MB/s download speed and 10 MB/s upload (capped.) Realistically steam gave it 6.6 MB/s download speeds. My ISP uses DSL. I have not had issues with lag spikes or connection instability. Device also remains connected and operates 24/7 when needed.

Price: Fluctuates at times, but generally good from what I see. I had spent $80 on a wifi device at a local store that had various problems including bad packet data errors in Java based games. So compared to that one, I'm satisfied with this.

Etc. This device is silent. I'm susceptible to high pitched noises at times, this one emits none in my hearing range.

Cons: None to report at this time.

Other Thoughts: Some users have stated that the device tends to over heat, I must not put a constant strain on it enough to cause this, runs cool and doesn't have any noticeable lag spikes.

My first mistake was thinking I could simply buy a wifi device at a local store for $80. It gave bad network packet errors in games, encryption was sub-par, and the overall performance lacked.

This product meets expectations.

5 out of 5 eggsLinux User

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: High speeds, cross platform, and cool appearance.

Cons: In Linux, it requires internet connectivity to download the driver in the first place. As well, you have to reinstall (I recompiled it each time, but you might not have to) for each new kernel you update to.
