4 out of 5 eggsGood High Gain

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Very nice for large homes to apartments. high gain antennas pick up every wireless signal in your neighborhood. Very strong signal even when below the wireless router. Dongle to place on top of desk. USB 3.0

Cons: antenna's can be a problem in small locations. Seems delicate when plugged in to the USB and not the cradle. wish i had an option for only one antenna for the top of the device.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this device for a client. always had problems keeping him connected while he worked in his basement office. since we have installed this wireless device he has had a great connection. He purchased 3 more from me.

Other Thoughts: Using with OpenElec 4.0.x and standard Linux drivers on raspberry pi. No additional usb hub power required.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: easy to use, fast, easy to move/adjust for best reception

Cons: No sticky surface or mounting options. Would have been nice to have it come with double stick tape or a hole for a screw or something. I have mine sitting on top of a monitor and if the cord moves the thing falls down.

Other Thoughts: I like that you can plug it into the computer directly or use the base as an extension (as I have)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat USB wireless adapter

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Windows 8.1 Installed the appropriate driver automatically upon connection to the rear USB 3.0 port of my systems board. Like others have said, is it is recognized by the OS as a Realtek 8812AU wireless LAN 802.11ac USB NIC so don't if you have your windows 8.1 up to date you won't even have to load the supplied CD to get it working. After the driver installation is complete just open your network and shearing center, join you wi-fi connection and enjoy. This USB NIC works as advertised. Highly recommended!

Cons: None so far. This adapter is currently running at 300.0 Mbps which is the maximum broadcast speed supported on my router.

Other Thoughts: I am planning on upgrading to a faster router sometime in the future but for now it plenty serves my needs until I move up and decide to setup my network for HDTV streaming which will be the next. Price value ratio is unbeatable and a price point below $40. I tested three other wireless adapters until I found this one. One of the other adapters I tested was twice the price. All other adapters have already been returned and I am planning on keeping this one.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning Great, Win8.1

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Running right out of the box, no installation required for me, (read other thoughts), Picked up my 5ghz wifi signal right away, connected like a dream, super fast speeds. LOVE IT!

Cons: NO CONS, I plugged it in, and connected, that easy. NO CONS!!!!

Other Thoughts: Usually when I buy hardware I go online to get the latest drivers from the manufacturers website, (as one does), but I couldn't find the drivers on Netis' website, maybe i wasn't looking hard enough but all I found was documentation. It comes with a driver CD but i don't have a cd-rom installed on my computer. So I plugged it in just to see what would happen. Bam, no installation required, system picked it up right away. Installs it as a "Realtek 8812AU Wireless LAN 802.11ac USB NIC" but guessing thats because its running a realtek chip inside. but its working perfect and i love it! GREAT PURCHASE!

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: RTL8812au chipset. The drivers are all over the place, and have been for months. Don't listen to the compatibility warnings.

Get the drivers from edimax.

Cons: tech pinocchios

Other Thoughts: works on all w 8 and 7 platforms. Linux and mac also.

2 out of 5 eggsBeware compatibility

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Works great in Windows 8

Cons: This device is incompatible with Windows 8.1. My average upload speeds are 1.5 mbps, out of a possible 40 mbps. I have tested this on several computers with different operating systems. It works in Windows 8, but doesn't in 8.1. In fact, the first time I installed it, it crashed my system. There is virtually no support for this device... I can't even find the drivers online.

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed in newegg that I have to pay $10 to return this device.

5 out of 5 eggsGood backup signal for tower

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Quick installation, drivers loaded easily, found wireless signals immediately

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Needed a wireless antenna for my tower (Win 8 Pro x64) as backup for when my cable internet service is down and I need to use my cell service portable hotspot to stay connected (I work from home and rely on broadband). I didn't order the tower with a wireless card because I have a laptop as backup for when I lose power, but I did have a pay-as-you-go dial-up service just in case the cable signal went down. That dial-up service went kaput without any warning, so I added the hotspot to my cell plan so I'd have reliable internet service beyond the cable.

The NETIS WF2190 was simple to install - driver from provided CD, connects via USB 3.0 port. It found the hotspot right away and allowed internet access with reasonable speed via the cell company's 4G LTE signal. That's all I needed it to do, and it works properly.

4 out of 5 eggsNetis WF2190 AC1200 Wireless Dual Band Adapter - Very Good Performance

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: - Excellent 5GHz Wireless Transfer Rates
- Good Price on Sale
- Cradle is very Sturdy
- USB 3.0 Adapter
- Changeable External Antennas
- Easy Set-Up With Windows 7

Cons: - Adapter Gets Warm Under Heavy Load.
- Unknown Durability/Longevity
- External Antennas make the Adapter Clumsy for Laptops.

Other Thoughts: I just received this Netis Dual Band USB 3.0 WiFi Adapter and I was very impressed. I recently purchased and evaluated an Edimax AC1200 Dual Band Wireless adapter that I found to have excellent performance. This Netis WF2190 Dual Band adapter had even better performance.

I tested this Netis WF2190 adapter with a HP Elitebook 8460p Laptop with a 3rd Gen Intel i5 CPU. I uploaded and downloaded iso media files to a Lenovo TS140 server connected by CAT6 gigabit ethernet connected to an Asus RT-AC66R router running Asus-Merlin Firmware ver 374.40. The distance between the Netis WF2190 and the Asus RT-AC66R was approximately 13 meters with three thick sheetrock walls between containing fiberglass insulation, electrical conduit runs, metal waste lines, romex electrical wiring, and various types of low voltage cables.

When using the Edimax AC1200 wireless adapter I was very pleasantly surprised to get 14-15MB/sec (112-120Mbps) upload transfer rates on the 5GHz frequency band. This was the best transfer rate that I have ever achieved with any other wireless adapter to that time, and I have tried D-Link, Netgear, and Asus adapters.

I did the same test with the Netis WF2190 Adapter. I replaced the stock 5db antennas with TP-Link 8db High Gain antennas. The upload speeds that I got exceeded 20MB/sec (160Mbps). This was the highest wireless transfer upload rate that I have ever seen and significantly better than the Edimax which was the best to date.

I believe that the higher wireless transfer rate of the Netis adapter is because of the external antennas. The Edimax adapter only has stub extendable antenna which just doesn't have the length or area to pick up good signal. The replaceable external antennas on the Netis are easily 4X the size of the Edimax. The antennas I put on are at least 8X the size. It works great with the cradle. It wouldn't be acceptable plugged directly into the USB port on a laptop.

Another advantage of the Netis adapter over the Edimax adapter was that the Netis WF2190 adapter worked excellent with Windows 7 64-bit Pro OS. I plugged the adapter into a USB 3.0 port on the HP Elitebook 8460p and Windows 7 automatically loaded the driver without the need to use the installation CD. The wireless connection has been rock stable with the Netis adapter too.

With the Edimax AC1200 adapter, I keep getting conflicts and dropped connections. I have had to reload the drivers several times to get the Edimax adapter to actually work. When I was transferring 10GB or more of media files the adapter would drop the connection and would not reconnect by itself. I was willing to tolerate that for the sake of the high transfer speeds. With the Netis adapter, I can get higher speeds and stable connection!

This adapter seems to run very warm under constant high load. I am concerned about the longevity of this adapter because of that. I gave it 4 eggs because of that concern. I would recommend th
