5 out of 5 eggsJust Awesome

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Super fast, with my old setup I was getting max 1.5 mbs, plugged this thing up and I'm getting downloads of close to 5 mbs. Has a nice long cord and mount

Cons: The mount doesn't stick to anything, so depending on where you have it a bump might knock it around. But, otherwise stable

3 out of 5 eggsGreat hardware product, spotty drivers

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: * Good, strong and reliable signal reception.
* USB 3.0 support.
* Longer than average USB cable length on the cradle allows for a greater range of placement options.
* Uses a sturdy Realtek RTL8812AU chipset

Cons: * Extremely poor Linux driver support (see Other Thoughts)
* Extraneous "helper" software for Windows that is more of a hindrance than an assistance.

Other Thoughts: The Netis provided drivers for Linux, both on the disc and from their website, just flat out fail to install and the included firmware for the RTL8812AU is two versions behind. When running the install shell script, it fails on compile and refers to a log that doesn't get created, leaving one very frustrated in trying to find out how it failed. I had to download the latest firmware and drivers for the Realtek chipset from Git, compile them and install them manually before the product would work at all. Providing a .deb AND .rpm package would have made installation a much easier task.

Unfortunately, Netis' support site seems to assume that everyone who is using this product under Linux will be running Ubuntu and suggests a program called "HardInfo" to help with getting drivers. This program is no longer maintained and does not support the chipset. It's an absolute dead end.

The Linux kernel I am using is 3.15.9, which is the latest stable release as of two days ago. OSes tested were Linux Mint 17, CrunchBang 11 and CentOS 7. I ended up with Linux Mint 17 as the product seemed to work best and be the most stable on that distro.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent adapter

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Excellent speed and distance. I use this for my PC in the basement, the router (Asus N66U) is on the 2nd floor. Connectivity on the 5ghz is always 80% or better. Link quality ranges from 270-300/Mbps. Plenty for what I use it for. Prior the Belkin & Linksys adapters were 100/Mbps at best. Though in fairness those adapters lacked external high gain antennas and function well if closer to the router.

Cons: None really. Ok, the USB base/cradle is too light and has a tendency to easily move around is the USB cable is touched. Doesn't matter, I use the adapter installed into a USB port on the back side of the PC.

Other Thoughts: I needed a good adapter with external antennas. There may be cheaper options, but this one does what it says and what I needed, no regrets!

4 out of 5 eggsGood High Gain

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Very nice for large homes to apartments. high gain antennas pick up every wireless signal in your neighborhood. Very strong signal even when below the wireless router. Dongle to place on top of desk. USB 3.0

Cons: antenna's can be a problem in small locations. Seems delicate when plugged in to the USB and not the cradle. wish i had an option for only one antenna for the top of the device.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this device for a client. always had problems keeping him connected while he worked in his basement office. since we have installed this wireless device he has had a great connection. He purchased 3 more from me.

5 out of 5 eggsNice high speed adapter

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Performance, ease of use, native Linux support, adequate range.

Cons: I'm not getting 866 mbs connection between floors in 2 story house, but I really didn't expect to.

Other Thoughts: Using with OpenElec 4.0.x and standard Linux drivers on raspberry pi. No additional usb hub power required.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: easy to use, fast, easy to move/adjust for best reception

Cons: No sticky surface or mounting options. Would have been nice to have it come with double stick tape or a hole for a screw or something. I have mine sitting on top of a monitor and if the cord moves the thing falls down.

Other Thoughts: I like that you can plug it into the computer directly or use the base as an extension (as I have)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat USB wireless adapter

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Windows 8.1 Installed the appropriate driver automatically upon connection to the rear USB 3.0 port of my systems board. Like others have said, is it is recognized by the OS as a Realtek 8812AU wireless LAN 802.11ac USB NIC so don't if you have your windows 8.1 up to date you won't even have to load the supplied CD to get it working. After the driver installation is complete just open your network and shearing center, join you wi-fi connection and enjoy. This USB NIC works as advertised. Highly recommended!

Cons: None so far. This adapter is currently running at 300.0 Mbps which is the maximum broadcast speed supported on my router.

Other Thoughts: I am planning on upgrading to a faster router sometime in the future but for now it plenty serves my needs until I move up and decide to setup my network for HDTV streaming which will be the next. Price value ratio is unbeatable and a price point below $40. I tested three other wireless adapters until I found this one. One of the other adapters I tested was twice the price. All other adapters have already been returned and I am planning on keeping this one.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning Great, Win8.1

This review is from: NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless High Gain USB 3.0 Adapter with Dual 5dBi Antenna & USB Cradle Extension Compatible with Windows MAC Linux OS

Pros: Running right out of the box, no installation required for me, (read other thoughts), Picked up my 5ghz wifi signal right away, connected like a dream, super fast speeds. LOVE IT!

Cons: NO CONS, I plugged it in, and connected, that easy. NO CONS!!!!

Other Thoughts: Usually when I buy hardware I go online to get the latest drivers from the manufacturers website, (as one does), but I couldn't find the drivers on Netis' website, maybe i wasn't looking hard enough but all I found was documentation. It comes with a driver CD but i don't have a cd-rom installed on my computer. So I plugged it in just to see what would happen. Bam, no installation required, system picked it up right away. Installs it as a "Realtek 8812AU Wireless LAN 802.11ac USB NIC" but guessing thats because its running a realtek chip inside. but its working perfect and i love it! GREAT PURCHASE!
