Byung K. 7/30/2015 9:08:46 PM Ownership: 2/5	Rating: 5/5Great performance without the wires This review is from: Comtrend PG-9172-Kit G.hn Powerline Adapter Kit, up to 1200 Mbps Pros: -The floor at my place is no longer strewn with loose ethernet cables. -These are just as reliable and fast as direct ethernet connections. -Really easy to set up. Cons: -My speakers are picking up electrical interference from these units as audible static. I've heard that certain power strips with emi/rfi filters can fix this. Or ferrite cores. Anyway this is an inherent problem with all powerline adapters apparently. Other Thoughts: Anybody these days know that wifi isn't great for gaming or streaming. But you can't lay down an ethernet cable all around your house. It's ugly. Powerline is the answer to this problem. And it seems that G.hn is currently the top performer in powerline technology because the performance is almost identical to a direct connection. Did you find this review helpful? It was overpacked, but that is true of pretty much all tech purchased these days. I set up three of these (the kit plus a single) in about 5 minutes. Plug in the first one, attach the ethernet cable from my main router, wait for green. Plug in the second one, wait for connect, push the config button on both units, wait for secure mode (about 5 seconds). Connect third unit, repeat. They all have green connections even though they are in very different parts of the house. The connection seems plenty fast (faster than my internet speeds) - DirecTV on demand downloads quickly to my Genie in the LR. Be sure not to connect to a power strip or surge suppressor, and you should be Green/Green/Green in about 5 minutes and have network wherever you have an outlet. Cons: The wall wart design means this unit has to go on the bottom plug of a standard two gang outlet or it blocks them both. Just keep that in mind. I have a short extender (about 6 inch) that gets one of them a ways from the plug so I can fit another wall wart plus this device. No big deal and they almost all have this issue. Just be aware. Other Thoughts: This is a well designed, high-quality unit that just seems well built. It is packed well, looks "right", and works with zero issues. I wish all technology came this way.
