1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: inexpensive, nice user interface, ease of firm ware update

Cons: wireless connectivity stops working resetting allows it to work maybe another 2 hours then it stops again. Not a signal problem router broadcast is great wireless card signal is great. This product just plain and simple does not work

3 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Price is good.
Decent range. About 20 feet less than my Centurylink 6070, which was over $100.
The wifi speed is pretty good. We have 2 3DS's, and a phone on it, and the wifi is fast enough for all three.

Cons: This router WILL NOT pair with my computer. I have tried everything I know and I cannot use it with my computer. This may just be a strange compatibility issue with my wifi adapter and this router.
Every 2-3 days this router stops working, and I have to unplug and reset it. This is very annoying, and should NOT happen.
The internet speed on my phone is not as good as with my other router.
The router looks/feels very cheap.

Other Thoughts: This is a decent router for the cost, but I would recommend spending more money and getting a good router.
The two children with the DS's told me that they didn't like the router, and they wanted that mentioned in the review (gotta love kids).

5 out of 5 eggsNic Router!

Pros: Ok, been using this for a month. I have not had to reboot this router yet. That is great. Been streaming HD video from bedroom to Livingroom, Now this house was built early 1900, late 1800, so the walls are thick and made from cement, so its been doing realy well. Transfer rates on wireless been realy good. You can't beet this for the Price, and for being reliable, this has been going strong.

Cons: 10/100 ethernet. also you have to register on setup. but alot of items you have to anymore, for the price though, this isn't realy a con.

Other Thoughts: I gave a review few weeks ago, this is a follow up, and so far, This router has been going strong, My wife plays alot of online games with her laptop, she does everything online with her laptop and has not had ANY problems. Have not had to reboot the router yet!!!, that is great, I have a $160.00 Netgear that i had to reboot once a week, the netgear is also a dual band and 10/100/1000 gigabyte ethernet, but if that don't concern you, THIS router for the price can't be beat, very user friendly, and Works great right out of the box, If price concerns you, but you still want quality, Then I highly recomend this router, If your a computer geek, and you love to tinker and price isn't a concern, then you might want to get the more expansive routers like the Netgear dual bands.

3 out of 5 eggsMediocre Router at best

Pros: In all fairness, the router was basically a painless plug and play experience right out of the box. The preset configuration was acceptable for most requirements. The default SSID and password are provided on a sticker on the base of the unit. All of my wireless devices connected at and up to their maximum speeds (at times). The consumer has the option to alter these settings with either a wizard or by manually changing them. Most small home network users will find this item adequate for basic to moderate networking tasks, but the throughput and bandwidth capabilities will leave advanced users with streaming media applications wishing they bought something else.

Cons: A new N300 WiFi router with 10/100 Ethernet ports, why? Most new computers are Gigabit capable. I think this is a serious drawback to the overall design of this specific router.

Other Thoughts: When testing items as a Newegg Eggxpert, I expect to receive the very same items from off of the shelf as any consumer would be able to purchase. The On-Networks N300 WiFi Router FAILS TO DELIVER in this respect.
First of all, this item arrived as an opened box, with big yellow sticker attached to it stating that it was a “NEWEGG EXPERT REVIEW ITEM” Inside there was a letter from On-Networks thanking me for reviewing their product. “To help ensure you have a positive experiencewe invite you to reach out to us with any questions or comments via our technical phone support line at XXXXXXX or e-mail us at NewEgg.EggXpert@xxxxxxxxx.com
I believe this is what we call “cherry-picking” an item, to ensure a good review.
This letter then continues on with all of the glittering generalities of what a basic router should do, as well as the “special” features of this particular model.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat all-around wifi router!

Pros: Powering up and setting up:
Setting up is SUPER easy! Connect the router to your modem... power both up and let it rip. Connected to the router with the factory credentials and a few questions later the router was setup and ready for use!

Use:
Changed the admin password and wifi password (obviously), changed the speed from 145mbps to 300mbps. Instead of using one channel with the 145mbps speed, when you switch to 300mbps, the wireless router uses two channels... that’s cool!

The web UI stated there was a firmware update available... 1.0.4_1.0.2 The web UI went through the steps of downloading and upgrading the firmware and restarted without a hitch... one of the easier firmware update processes.

The wifi speed is exactly the same as my other Netgear wireless router (which I spent more money on).

Has the same nifty features as other more expensive routers, such as site / domain blocking, QoS, and much much more!

Cons: Doesn’t have the offerings / capability to create a guest network.

Other Thoughts: Packaging and Un-boxing:
Included in the packaging are the following:

1x N300R wireless router
1x power adaper
1x installation guide
1x ethernet cable

First impressions (before powering up and setting up):
The wireless router is plastic, as most routers these days are. It’s very light... so carrying it long distances won’t be a chore. It stands upright on it’s own, some routers provide optional “feet” so you can choose which orientation (standing up or laying down) you prefer... this one has been already decided for you (not a huge deal). It’s LAN ports are color-coded yellow and it’s WAN port is color-coded blue. Not so sure why... isn’t yellow the universal color for WAN port? At least with other routers? (again, not a huge deal)

OTHER:
I might be completely wrong... but the web UI looks exactly the same as my other Netgear wireless router. Two companies... same UI? Same companies... same UI? The world may never know!

2 out of 5 eggsNot Good... Not Good At All

Pros: This router is inexpensive and has all of the features one expects from any router. Range and throughput are good. There's no gigabit ethernet or dual band capabilities, but that is expected at this price point.

Setup was very easy. The GUI for this router will be very familiar to anyone who's used one of the recent Netgear products. It's pretty much identical with only a difference in color.

I find it interesting that you can access the management GUI by either IP address (192.168.1.1) or a URL (www.mywifirouter.com). The URL might be easier to remember for those not familiar with networking protocols.

For some reason, a simple power toggle switch is a rare item on routers. This router has one, which is a very good thing. Read cons below for why.

Cons: After setup, the router worked as expected and connected to my DSL modem immediately. Unfortunately, starting the very first day I was experiencing two problems.

First, the router would lose it's connection with the modem. All devices would still be connected to the router, but the connection would not have internet access.

Second, the router would occasionally not allow any wireless devices to connect. Not just one device, but all wireless connected devices. When attempting to connect in this state, it would ask for the wireless password (strange behavior, as it has already been set up). After entering the correct password, I would get an "unable to connect" result.

The only way to correct the both problems is to power cycle the router. After booting up, the router would work as intended for a while and then the problems would recur. On average, three reboots a day were required.

There are many other options for routers in this price range. Daily reliability is required for any basic router, no matter how inexpensive. An occasional reboot isn't unexpected for router, but multiple times per day is far too often.

Other Thoughts: I really tried to give this router a chance. It notified me of a firmware update, which I installed, but the problems persisted. After getting one too many calls at work from someone at home having "internet" problems, I had to go back to my original router.

I may have received a dud and other samples may work just fine. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend it for anyone when there are plenty of other options out there.

5 out of 5 eggsReview update

Pros: I wanted to revise a earlier review. This router does handle 1080P wireless well. My server was a problem before.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent router. Not expensive

Pros: Good price - $30
No software required (none should be required)
Good GUI for management
Automatic firmware updates
Timed wireless settings (turn off overnight)
Parental controls
Has an On/Off switch, looks good, small footprint

Cons: The easy setup error-ed out the first couple times I tried it. Ended up going through a manual configuration.

Other Thoughts: A lot of people complained about the default transfer speed being set to 145mbps. I believe using the higher 300mbps speed may reduce the routers’ range. Personally, I’d take performance over range any day.

I compared the performance of this router to my Dynex router from Best Buy that was similarly priced. They have very similar performance.

About 11.5MB/s wire to wire and 3.5MB/s over wifi (as reported by Windows file transfer dialog box).

I think in MB/s so it was annoying to constantly convert from Mb/s to MB/s

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router for the price

Pros: For the price, this is a very good router, the setup was straight forward and very simple, I have had this router running for almost 10days since i got it and have not had to reset it yet. Also it has a very good range, i have a media pc in the living room, this is set up in the bedroom through a concrete wall around 30' away and getting 4bars,

Cons: for what it costs, NONE

Other Thoughts: I paid almost $160 for a netgear dual band, and i realy see no differance in the connection i'm getting with my laptops and HTPC in the Livingroom. If i knew about this back then, i would not have gotten the netgear but this router. IF YOU NEED A GREAT ROUTER, AND DON'T WANT TO SPEND OVER $100, GET THIS, You will not be sorry. I will keep you updated in another few weeks on how this router is doing, 10days without a reboot. that is great.
