Tenda W268R Wireless N Router IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g/n

The W268R is a Wireless-N router with a wireless AP function, a 4-port switch, and a built-in firewall. Transmission speed is approximately three times that of 802.11g products, while transmission rate is nearly doubled. Also, the WDS (Wireless Distribution System) supports the bridging of wireless routers in order to increase the wireless coverage area.

With features like an easy-to-use Tenda setup wizard, URL/MAC address filtering, and QoS (Quality of Service) bandwidth control over specific IPs, parents and network administrators will find managing the network a breeze. The W268R provides small offices and households a simple but effective solution for a safe and stable network with good speed.

2 out of 5 eggsUseless to me as an Access Point

Pros: Inexpensive. Umm... Did I say Inexpensive? Oh. Nothing else I can think of.

Cons: I couldn't use it as an Access Point (which is what I was after) on my existing network since it won't allow "-" dashes in the wireless SSID. [Never ran across that one before.] I'll give it away to some customer as an entry level wireless.

Other Thoughts: It's configuration interface was weird and limited. I didn't use the wizard as I was after a specific/unusual configuration.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Device

Pros: I got this for free with a purchase at Micro Center. Nothing more that are positive that I can remember.

Cons: Setting up can be a tad confusing if you know nothing about manual setup and can only be done manually. I called tenda tech support for help, but they weren't much help This device only works when it wants to. And even then the internet was utterly terrible.

Other Thoughts: I can't tell you how many times I lost connection to my xbox live. I finally, bought a brand new netgear router which works great. This device isn't even worth being for free.

3 out of 5 eggsInexpensive flexible Router

Pros: Inexpensive Router with a great deal of flexibility in configuration (can be used to extend WLANs). Not much for built-in help though.

Cons: Looking at Tenda's website, there are apparently several different hardware versions of this model (about 6-7 different firmwares noting to update only devices with similar firmware to avoid tanking the device). Looking at other reviews elsewhere, confirmed what I already discovered - not Apple product friendly, although some gave work-arounds (MAC address assigned DHCP addresses or setting the device to a static IP)

Other Thoughts: These routers have ability to auto-select wireless channels on 2.4GHz spectrum, however wireless experts will tell you to only use channels 1, 6, or 11 because the Wi-Fi channels overlap and interfere with multiple channels. By using one of these three channels you reduce adjacent channel interference.

2 out of 5 eggsPretty good when it works

Pros: Works well when it's working.

Cons: Every time we disconnected it, it stopped working. I managed to get it working through numerous resets before, but now it has quit. No matter what I do it refuses to connect to my modem.

I contacted their tech support by email one week ago, but no response.

Other Thoughts: The only other thing that has bothered me is their tech support being closed down on sundays. I work a lot and sunday tends to be my homework day, so when the router dies on a Sunday I'm out of luck until the next day.
