A decent small business quality gigabit switch
This review is from: Tenda TEG1016G Unmanaged 16-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch
Pros: Runs cool thanks to built-in cooling fan. 19" rack mounting or stick on rubber feet for desktop use. Built-in power supply with power switch - no external wall wart. Power, activity & speed LEDs. Complies with FCC part 15 rules for a class B digital device. Reasonably priced. Comprehensive, easy to understand user guide. Steel case.
Cons: Big - designed for standard 19" rack mounting. The size of the average stand alone Blue-Ray player. Fan noise - not silent operation. No 10/100 indication, just one LED per port to indicate gigabit (1000 megabit) operation. RoHS compliant. 1-yr limited warrantee.
Other Thoughts: Made in China. Quality seems good. Cool operation should help extend the life of the unit. I think heat killed the name brand, fan-less, unit it replaced. Fan noise is minimal from the approx. 2" fan - a gentle rushing sound only, like "white noise". I'll gladly take that instead of destructive heat build-up. The fan itself may in the end be the point of failure in future years. Mandatory RoHS compliance, although ecologically friendly, has been proven to be less long term reliable then previous construction methods.
