P200 Powerline Mini Adapter Kit

What It Does
To build a network at a home or office with minimum effort and cost, the Tenda 200Mbps Powerline Adapter P200 is the best choice. In many cases, Ethernet is just not available in places where network connectivity is needed. However, almost every room in a home or office has power circuitry, which can be used to extend network connections from your broadband router. Simply plug one P200 that links to a broadband modem/router into the power outlet in one room, and plug another P200 linking to a PC or any Ethernet device in the other, you can then easily and instantly create a powerline network of up to 200Mbps, twice that of a traditional switch or router, with the driving capability of up to almost 1,000 feet (300 meters), three times that of an Ethernet cable. Plus the QoS feature prioritizes your bandwidth-intensive applications for a lag-free experience.

2 out of 5 eggsThese don't last long

Pros: Were some of the less expensive powerline modules.
Give decent powerline speed.

Cons: They burn out. It starts with a high pitched whine, then they die.

Other Thoughts: I have owned at least 8 of these modules and give up on them. They burn out quicker than lightbulbs, but are much more expensive to replace.

1 out of 5 eggsShutting down caused by heat!

Pros: Worked well while it lasted.

Cons: After about a month one of the p200s wont shut down for a second causing me to lose connection for a few seconds. It also emits a very noticable and annoying electical noise.

Other Thoughts: I bought two boxes when they were on sale. Only one is shutting off, which I found to be caused by over heating. I popped off the top portion of the plastic housing exposing the electrionics. This solved the shutting down problem but the eletrical noise is even louder now! I have to unplug it before going to sleep.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked for 2 years

Pros: When it worked, it worked very well and very reliably.

Cons: Failed after about two years. Just stopped working (lost connection). I was able to get them working again by resetting them. Two days later they failed again and I could not get them to connect. Reset to factory settings (hold button for greater then 15 seconds) and they would still not make a connection with each other. Moved them so they were only a few feet apart on the same electrical circuit and still no joy.

Other Thoughts: These should work for many years, especially for the price.

2 out of 5 eggsSlow but reliable in 1 location then DIED

Pros: They were reliable while they worked, and Netflix streamed just fine.

Cons: They died 2 months after the warranty ended. They were slow, and only worked in a few outlets.

Other Thoughts: I have read about their high-failure rate, but the sale price was low-enough for me to try them out.

2 out of 5 eggsStopped working after a month

Pros: Worked fine for about a month.

Cons: After a month one of the units will shut off for a second causing a lose of connection for a few seconds while the thing powered back on. I have tried resetting both units, moving them closer together but I still have the same problem.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable in the long run

Pros: They worked fairly well, and were extremely easy to set up. I bought a second pair because I liked the first so much. Definitely easier than running wires through the house.

They also look very good and take up very little space.

Cons: After a certain amount of time, for me, on average about 1 year, they fail.

Three out of the four I owned failed in the exact same way. I assume the fourth would have failed as well, but a single device was useless by itself, so it was filed in the round bin.

The failure mechanism was quite annoying as well. When they starting to fail they would emit a high pitched squeel that was audible throughout the house, but quiet enough to be hard to pinpoint.

Other Thoughts: After an autopsy on one of them, I found that the main capacitor in the power supply had blown. As these devices get quite warm, I'm sure the problem was that the capacitor was not rated for the environment. I'd still be using these if they had spent an extra few cents on a better cap.

Pros: Been using a pair of these adapters for over a year and have no complaints. Units are quite light and compact and are plug and play and forget.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsTenda P200

Pros: Small, simple. Well designed indicator lights show every condition. Good power saving mode. No need to install software.

Cons: Not every AC outlet pair will connect. Usually the furthest plug that you want will not connect. Really no more reliable or faster than a wireless setup. Hit or miss.

Pros: Good when it works.

Cons: Slow, drops signal frequently, customer service isn't available.

Other Thoughts: Wish I could get my money back, so disappointed. Should of read more reviews.
