P200 Powerline Mini Adapter Kit

What It Does
To build a network at a home or office with minimum effort and cost, the Tenda 200Mbps Powerline Adapter P200 is the best choice. In many cases, Ethernet is just not available in places where network connectivity is needed. However, almost every room in a home or office has power circuitry, which can be used to extend network connections from your broadband router. Simply plug one P200 that links to a broadband modem/router into the power outlet in one room, and plug another P200 linking to a PC or any Ethernet device in the other, you can then easily and instantly create a powerline network of up to 200Mbps, twice that of a traditional switch or router, with the driving capability of up to almost 1,000 feet (300 meters), three times that of an Ethernet cable. Plus the QoS feature prioritizes your bandwidth-intensive applications for a lag-free experience.

P200

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Works great and having no problems with it. Price was also very reasonable. Setting up was a breeze. I had one adapter in the kitchen and the other in a garage not connected to the main house and it was able to connect.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsGood device

Pros: I purchased this on sale to extend my home networking. I use this kit with a pair of Rosewill adapters and it works just fine. I had very little issues. One adapter is used with Roku HDS and another with laptop. Speed is very good and certainly higher than my internet connection. Latency is excellent too, 3ms ping going through the router, 2 adapters to a remote device. It is worse than wireless which is 1-3ms and worse than Ethernet which is <1ms. But it is very consistent and certainly would be OK for gaming. For internet browsing and streaming video and even VOIP it works well.
The devices are compact and do not block second outlet. They do not get hot and look nice in the outlet.

Cons: The device occasionally locks up. Not very often, but it happens. Every few months the device servicing my Roku locks up and has to be unplugged and plugged back. Rosewill device does not do this. It is no a big deal but could be annoying if you have your device is hard to access place.

Other Thoughts: I would still recommend these especially if they are on sale. The lock up is not a big deal and it does not happen often. They work very well and compatible with other home plug devices.

2 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted...

Pros: Easy set up. Good while it lasted.

Cons: Slow speeds depending where in your house you use it. Must use on outlet with nothing else plugged in to the other socket (causes interference and speeds drop)
This thing claims 200mbps speed.... from an outlet in one room... to the one in the adjacent room... it worked well ~100mbps... however.. the one room over (living room)... speeds dropped dramatically. My 30mbps internet connection in one room... became 3mbps in living room thru the adapter.

Failed after 14months.... one of the units took a dump.. makes little noise doesn't power up.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: This thing is a snap to set up.
Ive only had to "reboot" it twice by unplugging them and plugging them back in.
Astronomically cheaper than having networking cable run to hook up an older workhorse HP printer.

Cons: None that I have seen.

Other Thoughts: Buy it, you wont regret it.

Pros: Worked okay for the first year but died a month out of warranty.

Cons: Died after 1 year - Not a long term investment item.

2 out of 5 eggsNot as good as they first seemed

Pros: When they work they do their job well...
My previous review, in which I gave them four stars, I had not needed to use them as frequently... so for infrequent use over a limited time, they work great.

Cons: I've found, as I've needed to use them more frequently that they are reliable on one point, if you leave them plugged in long enough they will provide a very unstable connection.
Additionally, my experience has been if you leave them plugged in for more than a day then, in order to have them work well, you must unplug them, let them sit for 10 minutes or so, then plug them in again.
They tend to remain stable (you know provide a network connection like you would expect from a cable), for about a half hour.

Other Thoughts: I suspect the circuitry may be fine but that heat dissipation is insufficient.
This would explain why they consistently become unstable after being plugged in for a certain amount of time, with the instability increasing the longer they are plugged in.
I may attempt to ventilate them with a drill to see if increased air flow will alleviate the problems...
(NOTE: this may not be sufficient as there will likely be a number of resistors to pull the very small amount of power they require... in which case I would need to devise some sort of heat sink)

3 out of 5 eggsNot very good

Pros: Worked ok for short periods of time.

Cons: Kept dropping connection, low connection speed.

Other Thoughts: I live in a 1000 sq ft apartment. distance between nodes was about 60 feet.

Ended up buying TPLINK TL-PA4010KIT
Stable, faster, better.

2 out of 5 eggsbarely working and unstatble

Pros: Small in size

Cons: - Signal strength is about 30% to 70% of other brands (compared in the same circuit and under the same condition).
- Unstable connection. At a time you can happily get 10 - 15 mbps, but two minutes later, it could drop to 2 - 5 mbps, or even dropped connection, while there is no changes in the powerLine and device activities in the network.
- Its utility failed to be installed, nor run under Windows 8.1
- Tech support is 9-5, M-F, compared with 24/7 from other brands

3 out of 5 eggsGood for price

Pros: Easy to set-up, just plug and play If something happens, just hit the reset button for few seconds to reset it back to default manufacturer. Good for using a PC in another room w/o wifi.

Cons: - Bit rate reduced when plugging it on an outlet that has reset circuit (breaker) button or on a power surge protector/strip.
- For better streaming video result, one needs to go to QoS in advance setup to remove all other priority and set your dedicated IP of your network video recorder. For person who has limited knowledge of technical will be struggle to configure this.

Other Thoughts: - My 1st device connects to a router. A PC that connects to a 2nd device, this PC IP address has to be obtained automatically It won't work if I define my own IP address.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Plugged it in and it just works (even with a power strip on one end)

Cons: Takes 1.5 wall plug due to size
