4 out of 5 eggsAlmost too good to be true

Pros: I am using these as AP's and as bridges. I know that is not how they are designed, but after watching a few YouTube videos, bam, I have ridiculous Wi-Fi coverage. I placed two on my home, one pointing south and one pointing west. Why? Because I own the surrounding 6 properties and I wanted to be able to mow grass and listen to Pandora. I can cover 12 city lots and still maintain Wi-fi coverage on my phone. In addition, even with the Ubiquiti devices outside, I have my entire house covered inside. Are they easy to setup? - ehh, not really. Other reviewers said it best. These are NOT consumer grade devices. I am a Network Admin and I even struggled the first time.

Just last night had a guy tell me "that no one has been able to get him Internet into his barn/machine shop and it cannot be done." Challenge accepted. I installed one unit INSIDE his house pointed towards the shop and one unit INSIDE his shop pointed at the house. Internet. Took me 15 minutes. Rock Solid.

Can't say enough good things.

Cons: There are about 6 trillion options that can be selected on these. It is overwhelming. Make sure you watch a YouTube video or 3 and get familiar. Most of the options are not needed for day to day use. They might be relevant if you are planning on starting a WISP.

5 out of 5 eggsThese are not Access Points

Pros: I already wrote a review but felt I needed to add more information based on some comments here. First of all, do not buy this if you are looking for an access point. These are point-to-point devices to bring Internet over short or very long distances. Also, some are complaining about how hard it is to get these set up. These are enterprise devices at consumer cost. I am amazed at how well Ubiquity devices work but there is definitely a learning curve. When I got my first unit (Edge router) I was over my head for sure. But, with help from the forums, I was able to get it up and running. I needed something that would do more than 10 static IP's in NAT and it does the job. I am now using numerous of their devices to get Internet to my neighbors; including one that is a mile away with trees. This stuff is rock solid. Also, the price is almost give-away for what you get. Take your time, do your research on the Ubiquity forums and you will be rewarded with equipment that is rock solid, very reasonable to buy, and takes care of issues (transmitting and receiving for a mile) that I don't know of other equipment you could buy to do it for the price point.

Cons: I don't have any. I have several items in different frequencies that all operate perfectly.

Other Thoughts: Everything you need to do is spelled out in their forums. Do not try to reach them for technical support, it's not there. Remember, this is not consumer equipment.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for wireless bridge and CPE

Pros: These are great for low cost point to point wireless bridge applications. I have multiple sets of these (and the 5Ghz model) in operation connecting buildings that are too far away or inconvenient to wire and the signal is as reliable as wired for the users, even with not so perfect line of sight in some cases. Once you learn the interface, they are easy to setup. The external signal strength leds are a great help sometimes.

Cons: Documentation is poor, though most questions can be answered by checking out the ubnt forums. Can't make julian fries.

Other Thoughts: For those who are complaining about having problems setting this up as an AP, I encourage you to stop for a moment and read the product description. These are designed for point to multi-point bridging as a WiMax client device and secondarily as a point to point bridge device. If you need an AP, this is not the right product for you. Ubiquiti has lots of great products in the PicoStation, Rocket and UniFi product lines for AP applications.

3 out of 5 eggsDifficult to setup

Pros: Availability, size and speed when in a clear line of sight.

Cons: These come with almost no information on how to set them up. Plan to take some time reading and Youtubing in order to get these things setup, they aren't just plug and play.

I never could get the Java to work, I found it is MUCH easier to just put an app. on the android to sniff local traffic and decide which channel I wanted to use, save yourself the hassle of trying to get Java to work, the android app takes a few seconds to download and its working.

The mounting brackets for the antenna's are nothing more than a zip tie and they don't hold the antenna in place very well, I used stainless radiator clamps to hold them to my mast.

Other Thoughts: If I could have gotten something else just as fast I would have, They remind me of the pre XP network setup days.
Clear line of sight and they are great but if anything starts getting in the way they drop off fast.

I gave them 3 stars since they work but I think I am being generous since they take a while to figure out and setup. If I find that I have to setup another system like this I will take some time and try to find alternatives to these.

When you go to change your password its the little icon on the last page that looks like a key, click it and then you can set a new password, just to the right side of admin. user name under systems tab.

1 out of 5 eggsCouldn't connect any device

Pros: No pros

Cons: Could not connect any devices to this AP.
I've installed literally hundreds of APs over the years, so I know what I'm doing, but despite 3 hours of configuring I could not get any device to connect to this AP.

Other Thoughts: No tech support number, no response from email.
Stay away from this product.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fantastic

Pros: Nice user interface. Fairly easy to set up to get to communicate with another Nano or a Rocket (which is what I did). The unit is very stable and once I got it up, it has not gone down once.

Cons: When I first got the unit and my Rocket, they kept breaking contact with each other. I requested a RMA from Ubiquity which I received. But, before sending it back, I went on their forums and found a BETA area that had different firmware. Joined the BETA program and flashed the BETA firmware. Now the units are very stable and haven't gone down one time.

Other Thoughts: Where I live, there is no Internet access. I have AT&T fiber near my house and had it run there. I am using these units to supply my neighbors Internet and they work fantastic.

5 out of 5 eggsworks amazing

Pros: Always work rain or shine
Small
Range
Cheap

Cons: setup can be difficult do yourself a favor and download this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx8FWBjhkrc

He does an amazing walkthrough and will save you hr's of frustration

Other Thoughts: I live a ranch and the only on site "high speed" Internet that is available is 8mbps @ $80 month. My aunt rents a house that has a comcast hookup that is 550ft from my house, 1100 ft from my fathers house and 950ft from my aunts house (measured via google maps). All of it is line of sight no obstructions. I have one nanostation setup to broadcast the internet and 3 more to recieve it. I have been running this setup for the last year with no issues and all of the units are outside in the weather. for the price of these it really makes a small network affordable and brings high speed to where there wasn't an option. worth every penny.

3 out of 5 eggsDifficult to use

Pros: Ubiquiti integration

Cons: Difficult to set up

Other Thoughts: Apparently you cannot use this access point in true WDS . It's also hard to find any information about using this in single access point set up, I wanted to use my Ubiquiti Airrouter as the other Access point. It's not for those who want a plug and play device or who do not have a lot of time to play with it. However, it's better integrated than my Engenius and I wanted devices that better played with each other.
