5 out of 5 eggsTP-Link Gb adapter

Pros: Gigabit LAN connection
Realtek MAC chip

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Used one of these to upgrade an older system that only had a 10/100 onboard connection.
Windows 7 already had a driver built-in and Windows Update had an updated driver. Didn't even need to separately download a driver for it!
Very reasonably priced for a Gb card.

5 out of 5 eggsGb/s on PCI, Linux support

Pros: Linux support
Gigabit ethernet for old ("legacy") systems with PCI slots
Oh yes, low cost! I was looking for an Intel PCI Gigabit ethernet adapter because Intel network has reliably had Linux support for so many years I don't even have to check, but this was half the price or less, and I don't need any features that this doesn't have, so I checked for Linux modules for this chipset then took a chance on the brand and so far, so good. This is good hardware without the leading brand price markup.

Cons: none yet, will contact Newegg if it fails or starts acting up

Other Thoughts: This card is on the LAN side of my IPfire router and providing approx Gb/s throughput, as advertised. Streaming movies in particular are much better. The router buffers it, and then it's smooth. That's not just because of this part, it's because of the Squid proxy, but this part is doing its, um, part.

1 out of 5 eggsGot PCI 1.0.... Don't waste your money

Pros: None

Cons: Purchased... installed... system won't even POST! Turns out this card is NOT backward compatible with PCI/PCI1.0. Only works in systems with PCI2.0/2.2.

5 out of 5 eggsGets the Job Done Affordably

Pros: Inexpensive
Great affordable replacement for failing onboard NIC
Plug & Play in Windows 7 x64
Arrived on time, in 3 days.
Includes a low-profile bracket.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Purchased this as a replacement for an onboard NIC that had failed in a HTPC. It was up and running within ten minutes. Easy installation, Windows immediately found and installed drivers and I was back in business.

5 out of 5 eggsInstalled fine

Pros: The card has an individual LED for 10 MBPS, 100 MBPS, and 1 GBPS which is handy if you believe that you are having connection problems.

For $10.00 ($9.99) you can't go wrong especially when the card is from a reputable company like TP-Link. The NIC card came with a short bracket, a users guide, and a driver disk. I did not use the driver disk as the NIC card was autodetected by Windows XP which automatically installed a driver for the card.

Cons: Not a single complaint.

Other Thoughts: I was needing to update an older machine that only had a fast Ethernet connection and I didn't want to spend a lot of money for the card. This card was exactly what I was looking for. I consider TP-Link a very reputable company after having tested a number of their devices as an EggExpert. This card did not disappoint me and I feel confident that it won't disappoint you. I have purchased two of these cards and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another if I needed one.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great with my older XP computer

Pros: Works great. No problem so far.

Cons: Installation instruction wasn't accurate.

Other Thoughts: Network card also causes Windows XP to ask for re-Activation. Not the card's fault.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Nic

Pros: I am a networking professional this is a solid NIC card that links up at 1 Gig FULL duplex. (Provided you have the correct cabling type.) I have used this so far with 2 OS and not had to install drivers to get to work, was simple as plug and play. For the record I used Win 7 / 64-bit and Linux Mint 15. No updating required and give the option to hardset to 1 gig full duplex.

Cons: It doesn't cost less? I dunno it doesn't do more for this price what are you expecting? Is this supposed to make me sandwiches? It takes seconds longer to grab IPs and recognize during windows boot up. This may be the fault of an OS setting.

Other Thoughts: What you want this to include windows 98 drivers for current hardware? Get real, lol.
