5 out of 5 eggsPerfect replacement for dead integrated ethernet

Pros: - Worked straight from the box
- Price is rock bottom
- Fits snug in the PCI slot
- Works great on Windows 8

Cons: - None

Other Thoughts: Integrated Ethernet never worked on my new ASUS motherboard and really didn't feel like taking my computer apart and returning it.
So - spent $10, plugged the card in, and worked like a champ on first boot.
Couldn't be happier with plug-n-play.
RealTek driver installed by Win 8

5 out of 5 eggsGood network card

Pros: Value. Good card at a good price. It is working as I'm writing this review right now. No complaints

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Look some people need to learn how to read, really. Just because this card is a gigabyte network card does not mean it has to have Wake-On-Lan. Maybe that guy needs to learn how to read before he buys something. Second, to the Linux users. Linux is free right? Do you ever think why Linux is free? Oh yes...because even though Linux is supposed to be like Windows it is free because everything on Linux is not compatible. How is that for a ummm...ehhh...novel explanation? Look, it is good to be cheap and get stuff at cheap prices but there are limits. I get cheap stuff everyday and proud of it. However you have to understand how cheap you can go. Some of you people complaining over a value network adapter should understand that. If you have drama about it then take your cheapskate selves and plug your ethernet on your onboard internet connection. Oh wait...I guess that won't work because some of you probably bought some cheap and used motherboard with no on-borad ethernet connection. Oh too bad...:(..LOL

This is my third build so..

1. Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 motherboard-Good stuff there.
2. AMD FX6100 CPU at 3.3 Ghz
3. 8GB Kingston HyperX-Black DDR3-1600 memory PC12800
4. XFX 4870 Video card-Yep still working. Transferred from my old system to the newly built one. Now that is how you save money dingbats. Take your old system and find parts that are still viable in today's techonolgy world and use it.
5. XFX Core edition Pro 850 Watt power supply 80 plus bronze
6. Kingwin SKS-523 case-Again this is how you save money. Been using this case for about 8 years and IT STILL WORKS! This is my third build on this case. Too bad it is discontinued.
7. TP-Link gigabyte network adapter.

1 out of 5 eggsWARNING! NO WAKE ON LAN SUPPORT

Pros: Realtek 8169 controller is widely supported.

4 status led: Duplex, 10, 100, 1000

Cons: No Wake-On-Lan support

Other Thoughts: This board has no WOL support. Come on -- this is the 21st Century! Who in the world makes a gigabit ethernet card that doesn't support Wake-On-Lan? Unfortunately, the answer is TP-Link. Even the El Cheapo cards by Rosewill support WOL, but this card doesn't. It would be a mistake to buy this card by TP-Link.

I bought this card with a Gigabit switch. I wish that I could return it for a refund, but the value of the card is so low that it's not worth the expense of shipping it back for a refund. My only choice is to never use it or to just give up and throw it into the garbage.

Newegg's product description for this card fails to mention it's lack of support for WOL. Support or lack of support for WOL should be clearly stated in the card's feature list. -- you shouldn't have to do an advanced search to find this information. If Newegg had been more forthcoming about the card's lack of features then I would never have bought it. In my opinion, if a card doesn't support WOL they should say so clearly in it's product description, so that you don't find out the hard way after you've bought it.

I would give this card 5 negative eggs if I could.

4 out of 5 eggsDon't overlook the controller speed

Pros: I put this in a old computer trying to boost my network speed. One really needs to look at the limitations of the bus, it only transfers at 8.5 MB/sec due to having to share bandwidth on the old, 2002 era, motherboard.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsWork Great

Pros: Put two of these NICs in an Untangle firewall running a version on Linux. OS saw cards no problem - reboot is all that was required to get operational. At $10 a piece I'm certainly not going to complain.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsLinux - non-issue

Pros: Plug and Play... Slackware 13.37 saw it first boot and loaded the distro's r8169 drivers with no trouble... auto-negotiated 1000Mbps/Full as expected.

Cons: Performs 'OK' during transfer rate tests, ~50Mbps, approaching saturation of the sata interfaces doing FDE, end results roughly 5x faster than a high end 100Mbps NIC and a managed Enterprise class switch.

But for a $10 NIC running through a $30 Rosewill switch...a good deal

Other Thoughts: Also plugged one into another box running Ubuntu 12.04 - r8169 drivers loaded and similar test results.

5 out of 5 eggsTP-Link TG-3269

Pros: Inexpensive way to upgrade your network adapter to Gigabit speeds. Just install, boot, and Win 7 will load a Microsoft driver that can be upgraded to the latest one frome Realtek. No need to get a driver from the disk supplied.

Cons: It used up the last PCI slot on an old P4 mobo.

Other Thoughts: Bought a second one to use in another machine.
