1 out of 5 eggsDidn't connect

Pros: Bright packaging with no extruding wires or sharp edges.

Cons: This router didn't connect to the internet. At one point I had the problem pinned down to DNS (or was it IP6?), but I lost interest in troubleshooting after the manufacturer's web page timed out. It's always downhill from there.

Other Thoughts: I will avoid this brand in future.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed after 3 months

Pros: Small, easy to connect and setup

Cons: After 3 months of use, I noticed my wifi connection spontaneously disconnect and reconnect. This would happen with no apparent reason even with low traffic. Then it happened more frequently. Then my wifi connection was slowed to a crawl.

Other Thoughts: I initially thought it was Comcast until I verified the connection with a direct Ethernet cable from my computer to the cable modem. I found a firmware upgrade hoping that it might fix it. I installed it and it didn't fix anything. Fortunately, I had an older wireless router and installed that and everything was good again. I realized it was the TP Link wireless router. It was a disappointment that the shelf life was so short. I am not even sure it is even worth a tradeout or exchange.

2 out of 5 eggsVery disappointed in this unit

Pros: Small, easy to install,

Cons: After only 3 months, Wi-Fi started disconnecting and reconnecting spontaneously too frequently multiple times a work session. Did full power off/on resets and did a firmware upgrade to the latest version. Didn't help. Finally degraded to the point where the Wifi speed was unbearable. Once I swapped out with my backup wireless router life was good again.

Other Thoughts: I don't quite understand how a device can degrade so badly as there are no moving parts. Ultimately, I need to have more backup units going forward.

5 out of 5 eggsWrong description - No WPS button

Pros: No WPS button - if you don't use WPS, not having the button is a plus so you don't push it by accident.
Good config screens. Easy to disable WPS, unlike some other brands.
Good range but don't expect range perfection from any router.

Cons: Cheap power supply. Mine burned out. Had to buy a replacement power brick for $7. Annoying.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Small, easy setup, works well

Cons: It wasn't free

Other Thoughts: I ordered this to replace a failing, ancient, WRT54G. I was a little worried about buying such an inexpensive router, but it seems like pretty much every router on Newegg (even the expensive ones) have their share of bad reviews, so I took a chance. I couldn't be happier, setup took about 5 minutes and I haven't needed to touch it since. It may not have high-end features like packet prioritization, or come with one of the popular open router OSes, but it works just fine for coupling my phones and tablets to the cable modem.

3 out of 5 eggsFrustrating to setup

Pros: Cheap, Supports DD-WRT

Cons: DHCP server and wireless settings are touchy. I could not get AES to work, and at one point the DHCP server disabled itself. It could be a quirk of DD-WRT.

Other Thoughts: I switched from a WRT54GL to this (needed the GL for work so wanted to replace that with a cheap one for home). The GL I setup years back without a hitch. This one was kind of a pain. I am glad that I decided to test TKIP vs AES for wireless, because I was pretty close to just sending this back to new egg.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We appreicate you checking out this device.

Not every Adapter and OS is compatible with the AES encryption for wireless. This is for new 802.11n devices and TKIP is more compatible of the two.

The good thing about AES is it's very secure and it allows for you full speed, but you may run into compatibility issues which will make TKIP more useful.

We are glad to see that this deivce is working for you. Feel free to contact me directly at howard.he@tp-link.com for any issues or concerns.

Best Regards!

5 out of 5 eggsSimple & Reliable

Pros: Cheap.
Easy to set up and use.
Straight forward router.
Only ever had to RMA one as it was a victim of a lightning strike.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I've ordered a number of these for clients.
Wireless N 150Mbps and Wired 100Mbps rates are fine for simple networks in homes or small offices not requiring super fast and high data transfer rates.

*If you move BIG chunks of data daily , you'll want something else.

1 out of 5 eggscover only small area

Pros: Cheap

Cons: The signal provided by the router is only up to 10 -15 feet. It cant cover the entire apartment. My dinning room is about 15 to 20 feet away. I can bearly getting any signal. I contacted the tech support to try to change the setting and see if it can strengthen the signal a little bit. Unfortunately, nothing can help it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for trying our Router and we appreciate your review.

We would like to help get this device up and running for you.

You can contact me directly at howard.he@tp-link.com and we can get local support to get this resolved for you.

Here is a step-by-step guide to get into the Router: http://www.tp-link.us/article/?faqid=87

Once you are in here then you can change the Wireless settings that you see under the Wireless tab.

I would suggest changing the Wireless channel to 6 and making sure that the region is set to your current Country.
