5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great For Me

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Very easy to connect to my FIOS account and took longer to unpack then to get working. Significant speed boost and the wireless function has been fine. I like Tp-Link alot and have purchased their products often without any problems over the years. Tp-Link is one of my go-to manufactures for value and quality.

Cons: Since everything is working fine 5 weeks into the hookup I have no complaints on anything.

Other Thoughts: Good firmware, steady connection and the unit doesn't run hot. The Speedtest.net site shows me at almost 60 Mbps down on a 50 Mbps connection (hardwire) and wireless has been very good as well. I am buying another one for my sisters house so there you go.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: I have had the best luck with TP-Link routers, they have never had an issue, and I've gotten several for households I supply in the last 3 years and not one has had any problems at all.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Don't know what's up with the bad reviews but I have nothing but goo to say about TP-Link, they are excellent and not insanely overpriced like most other brands, mfr's have taken advantage of the wireless revolution and have sorely jacked prices to 4 or 5-fold what they were 4 or 5 years ago, there's no justification for it. TP-Link remains reliable and good priced and the ones I've bought work flawlessly.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Do It - Unless You Like Rebooting

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: I would like to say something nice about this product, but using it for as long as I have has drained any goodwill I had left for this epic failure of a router.

Cons: After the first week I found that I needed to reboot it once every two weeks, and the amount of time between reboots has gotten shorter and shorter as time has gone on. This last month it got to the point where I have to reboot it every three to four days so I upgraded the firmware from the manufacturer and now I have to reboot it every other day, sometimes twice in the same day. Thanks TP-Link.

Other Thoughts: Replaced the famous Linksys WRT54G with this because I needed wireless N speed.

I'm an operations manager for a point of sale company and I need to be able to VPN to my home desktop with regular frequency and with this piece of junk crapping the bed everyday it has added a significant degree of difficulty to my professional life.

I am using V1 of this product. V2 is what you see in the picture, I suspect its the same junk board with a newer flashier wrapper around it.

I installed an Asus router for a customer that seems to be basically in the same class as this unit, for a customer with shady power and I haven't heard a peep from him in over a year. I will be replacing this junk with that unit.

Looking forward to using this garbage as a clay pigeon. Thanks for nothing TP-Link

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Gargoyle Router!!!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Best bang for your buck! Gigabit LAN ports, three removable antennae, great range, rock solid stabilty.

Cons: NONE!

Other Thoughts: LOL! How are you nuts hearing the power adapter over everything else? PS3, two servers, modem, tv, receiver? DD-WRT?!? If you are rating this product low because you don't know how to read or flash the device, you need your review privileges revoked, not to mention your nerd cards.

2 out of 5 eggscheep and poor.

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: detachable antennas. the ONLY reason why i bought it. if rosewill or netgear or trendnet (who had bad fitting ethernet ports for awhile) had a similar model in the price range i would have gone with them. the other brands do not even use the micro connectors on the PCB so you can swap to whips for external detachable antennas.

Cons: same old poor signal and (UN)reliable wifi. would i buy again? NO! did not like tp-link when they first showed up as a dlink clone, did not like them a few year later and this shows they still have not changed. do not like dlink either for similar reasons.

Other Thoughts: from product replies i made this morning:

yes [ it will wifi link, or work as a repeater] via wds bridging, but the tp-link is a poor performer as far as wifi is concerned. here is a reply i gave moments ago to another question and will post to the product review:

they are full [gig duplex] as best a s i can tell. i bought this for the gigabit, price, wifi-n, and detectable antennas. if other brands offered detectable antennas i would have bought that instead. while it is an OK unit, it sucks. wifi is weak and cell phone drop it's connection frequently. it is an old issue with tp link. they are a dlink copy cat and offer the same awful performance. if i could find another with the what i said before for a "poor person" price, i saw many, but with fixed antennas, i would go with some thing else. the rosewill units are nice but have a firmware glitch that locks the unit up on reboot and you have to nuke it, i forget the setting ... if you leave it off you have zero problems, but they have fixed antennas. the main board does not even have the snaps to put whips on, they are soldered direct and i tried to solder new whips on but that did not work well so far.

my brother's tp-link, now 5yrs old, has the same wifi issues and they are the same as tp-link units we bought before then. flashing them to openwrt or other clone might fix the issues. my understanding is their chipset is NOT supported as of yet on any wrt clone.

mine sits in the basement with one +9dbi, 3rd party, antenna directly attached, and two 30ft cords having a +9dbi antenna on each floor. i get 1/2 signal 20 ft away. contrary, my 5db fixed rosewill covers my entire property at 1/5 bars, -90db, and my engenius eoc-1650 with the same +9dbi [antenna] hits 1/4 mile at -90dbi. so comparison wise, the tp-link should be pushing the 1/2 mile solid connection vs a poor 20ft. i live in a wooded suburbs with other competing wifi units.

even with the stock +5dbi antennas is had a limited range.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for your review.

We are sorry that you are not fully satisfied with your device and we hope that you can reach out to us if for any kind of support.

If you are interested in OpenWRT or DD-WRT then you will see that our device will support this 3rd party firmware.

You can always change the Wireless transmission power of the device to best suit your needs. If you intend to be very close to the Router, then you can lower the TX Power; if you intend to be far from the Router, then you can set the TX Power to max.

The higher the TX Power also means the higher the noise, which isn't always best if you are rather close to the device.

Another suggestion may be to change the Wireless channel width to 20 MHz. This setting has shown to improve the stability and speed of the device.

Feel free to contact me directly at howard.he@tp-link.com for any issues or concerns.

Best Regards!

2 out of 5 eggsUpdated after 5 months

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: It's fast and cheap. Great for wasting time and money.

Cons: Constant WiFi lags. Not usable. I threw it out.

Other Thoughts: It was great on the wired connections. On wireless it had constant lags/disconnects. I replaced with a D-Link AC1200 and it is stable and has even better range

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We are sorry that you did not enjoy the product.

Since you have thrown it out I assume that there isn't much trouble shooting that we can do or suggestions to help fix your product, but we do hope that you will reach out to us anytime that you run into an issue.

We will have new products coming out in the future and we hope this experience will not stop you from checking them out.

Feel free to contact me directly with any issues or concerns.

1 out of 5 eggsLocks up and requires reboot often

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Cheap, worked well when it works

Cons: Owned for a little over a year, now requires frequent reboots of the router because it freezes and stops working. Apparently a common issue with no resolution.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy any TP Link routers, it will be a waste of money.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We appreciate you checking out our Router.

One suggestion we have is to upgrade the firmware on your device.

You can find this firmware on our website at: http://www.tp-link.us/products/details/?categoryid=&model=TL-WR1043ND#down

If you are not familiar on how to do this then here is a link to show you how: http://www.tp-link.us/article/?faqid=296

I am curious to see if this happens to you on just the Wireless; just the Etherent; or both.

If you would like to contact me driectly at howard.he@tp-link.com and provide a bit more information then I would be happy to assist you further and give you some more support.

We understand how frustrating it can be to run into Wireless issues and we hope we can help you resolve this.

1 out of 5 eggsBad buy

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Three antennae

Cons: The device would not connect to my network adapter. Also, it is not suitable for broadband. It seems to be most suited for dynamic IP, as this device forced you to clone your modem's address. When I tried to return it, NewEgg wanted 7.50 for restock, plus 15.50 for shipping, bringing the refund down low enough to warrant keeping the device. Shady practices. I will never buy from Newegg ever again.

Other Thoughts: Use another market. If Newegg has stock, buy a put option on it. It will drown soon.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for checking out our Router.

The device is mostly used to connect to a Broadband modem and will be configured to work with the Modem and ISP.

Some ISP's do have features where they only allow one MAC address, and the MAC clone feature helps get around some of this.

We are sorry that you are having issues with your refund.

Unfortunately we do not provide any refunds here at TP-Link, but if you are having some issues then we can replace the device with a new one.

You can always feel free to contact me directly a howard.he@tp-link.com if you are running into any issues.
