5 out of 5 eggsDoes work with windows 8

Pros: Disregard the comment under mine. I have had no issues with this card under Windows 8, 7, Vista, or XP. Windows 8 will install a driver for you, and it causes connection issues for me, but that is a Microsoft issue, not TP-Link! Either run the driver program in compatibility mode or install the driver manually and you will be good to go. I use this, and the similar Mini-PCI card TP-Link has in an older laptop with Windows 8.1 and both work perfect. Im no IT pro, but if you install a card and you get lockups after, use a different driver. In this case where Windows 8 installs a driver, USE THE DRIVER THAT CAME WITH THE CARD!!!!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: People are quick to give bad reviews the second they run into a problem without doing a little work on their end. Like they expect the company to come out and install the driver on the cd for them...

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good reception, cheap, reliable connection, doesn't use a PCIe slot

Cons: None that I experienced

Other Thoughts: Can't comment on the utility software, I only installed the drivers. I got this because it seemed to have the best rating to price ratio of any PCI card, and I didn't want to use up my only PCIe slot with a wireless card. Installed the drivers first, then put the card in. It has never dropped signal, and it picks up my router with 100% strength, and picks up neighbors' signals much stronger than my laptop with the included antennae.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Compatable With Windows 8

Pros: n/a

Cons: Windows 8 will assign a driver and the card will appear to run correctly. Under windows 8 this network card will lock your system up while streaming video. As a tech you’ll think its heat, memory or a faulty PS, fact is this card is not compatible with windows 8. Tp-link offers other network cards that will run fine under windows 8, look on their site.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsInstall drivers only.

Pros: Great range, hardly any drop in connection- although that can depend on the capabilities of the router or modem you are connecting to as well.

Easy install.

Cons: INSTALL DRIVERS ONLY. Unless for some strange reason you need the utility included, don't install it. It caused my PC to constantly "unselect" the window/program I was currently working on.

For instance you are scrolling up and down and the border of internet explorer is deep blue. All of a sudden your mouse stops interacting with the window, and the borders go light blue as if you "clicked" elsewhere.

This happens in games too, you can be running around in a first person shooter and out of no where a mouse pointer shows up and your WASD stop functioning in game. You then have to "click" the game to resume playing. This happened to me VERY frequently.

Luckily I found out it was related to the NIC before troubleshooting much else and wasting time and headache. I hope this helps even one person.

Other Thoughts: Be careful with certain graphics drivers. I run an ASRock Pro 4 1150 Z87 motherboard, and for whatever reason: After installing the intel graphics driver for the on board display adapter, upon restarting the computer, the network adapter refused to connect, sometimes asking me to reset the router. The audio would drag and "hang", there was mouse/scrolling/dragging stutter, and on top of all of that, my CPU would idle at 25-30%, WAY above normal idling speed.

After much trouble shooting, I determined it was a combination of having both the drivers for the NIC and the graphics for the motherboard display at the same time.

With the help of my tech savvy brother, we established it was a resource conflict, and with seemingly no immediate and simple way to resolve it, I simply reseated the NIC into another PCI slot. Upon startup, things were a bit sluggish for a minute or two as the PC was gathering itself, but it then proceeded to accept the NIC and resolve the conflict between the two.

Now not every motherboard has two or more pci slots that are not already occupied, so my only suggestion might be to unseat and reseat the NIC into the motherboard and hope that it resolves itself.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well, in conjunction with TL-ANT2408C

Pros: If you're more than twenty feet from your router (especially through walls), the included antennae won't suffice (I couldn't get more than 20 mbps). After attaching one positional 8 dbi antenna, I now have 70 mbps (though there are two antenna connections, only one of these 8 dbi antennae is necessary; just keep the 3 dbi antenna on the second input).

Cons: see above

1 out of 5 eggsMaybe I got a dud

Pros: Drivers installed well, fit right in the PCI slot like things that go in PCI slots should fit in a PCI slot, you'd be surprised, I hardly mention that metric but gota write a pro somewhere. So I'll give it credit, it fit snug in the computer. woot.

Cons: Well, I doubt its something I'm doing wrong but this thing seems to only work when you position the antennas in an unspeakably precise position else you get 10 kbps download and 4 kbps upload (close to dial-up speeds) when you should be getting 300kbps down and 80kbps up. Tried positioning the computer in different locations of the room to no avail. The funny thing is other wireless devices get a fine connection in the room unless its a phone, ipod, or know things without antennas. So yes the wireless is shady in there but there is no reason why my laptop is getting 3 bars and a fine connection and this thing with its antennas gets 3 also but horrible speeds.

We had to take a picture of the correctly positioned antennas to revert to whenever they got moved from something, and even then its hit or miss you have to get it just right.

Other Thoughts: Bought a replacement card of a different product a few days ago so I wrote this review for this one, the replacement works perfectly.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,
We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your effort on the troubleshooting.

Usually the adapter will be at least as good as laptop built-in adapters.
We would like to work with you to resolve this issue.
May I have the following info?
1. The Operating system you're using;
2. How many bars the adapter can get?
3. What's the link speed when you connect to the wireless network?

I also recommend you a free software, inSSIDer, to measure the signal strength and find out an idle channel.
If the strength is below -80dBm, it's quite weak and you may consider to purchase a range enxtender.

I hope I can get your feedback and resolve this issue.

5 out of 5 eggsBest adapter I have ever used

Pros: -Zero issues whatsoever. None.
-Used the drivers on the disc to get internet to download the latest on the website, smooth sailing since. I have never had an issue-free network adapter in my life, since windows 95. -Price is unbeatable for the features.
-Actual card is made from attractive and durable materials, doesn't "look" like cheap Chinese junk, even though it is cheap and Chinese.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This brand is said to be the #1 seller in China, and I can believe it. This beats any Linksys, Netgear, Belkin, anything else. Only thing that is as good from my experience is D-Link which matches this, but costs a lot more.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not connect to internet

Pros: the antennas are nice and shiny

Cons: well "doesn't work" would have to be the main one. When I receive this parcel in the mail, I was delighted to receive it. now I only wish to return it. the wifi card will not connect to the internet through my network, it will connect to the network but not the Internet. I spent about 45 minutes online with an Asian lady at the tech support and I received a little to no help at all. I tried reinstalling the driver I tried using the utility that comes with the wifi card and I tried using the windows 7 utility, but alas my trials have so far been in vain. I am using this card with Windows 7, and even though it says on the box that it supports Windows 7, it is not working with Windows 7.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Tyler,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the adapter.
May I provide you some suggestions to resolve the issue?
1. Disable the anti-virus software and install the driver again;
2. If it still doesn't work, please install the adapter to another PCI slot.

Also, if you wish, we could schedule a call back and work with you to figure it out.
My email is: Please feel free to contact me.

2 out of 5 eggsBugged

Pros: Very easy to install both hardware and driver.

Cons: If i restart my computer does not pick up a wireless signal. However if i shutdown my computer then power it up, it will work just find (most of the time).

Other Thoughts: when it works it works great, but when it doesn't it doesn't do a thing and they only way to fix it is by shutting down the system.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,
We're happy to hear you installed the adapter easily and apologize for the inconvenience caused.
May I give you a suggestion?

1. Uninstall the driver and utility;
2. Install the driver only;
3. Use the Windows embeded wireless utility to connect to your wireless network.

If it still doesn't work, may I know the model# of your motherboard?
So that we can analysis this issue.
