1 out of 5 eggsOld WAP works better

Pros: Easy to admin, clean and clear interface, works well for typical in-home Wifi (all these pros pertain to TP-Link in general, not necessarily this particular model)

Cons: Doesn't throughput at advertised or consistent rates, no power/range controls

Other Thoughts: I have an older TP-Link WA5110G that works far better than this newer one. At least I can count on a consistent 25mbps with the old one, unlike the variation from 2 to 42mbps on this one. And I still can't figure out why it won't put out 100mbps (what I'm sending it) when it's rated to put out up to 150mbps.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We are sorry to see that you are having some issues with this device.

One suggestion that we have is to go into the Wireless Settings and change the Channel Width to 20 MHz.

This setting may help with stability and help to keep a constant wireless speed.

Upgrading the firmware is going to help with this stability and improve some aspects of this device.

You may find the firmware on our site at: http://www.tp-link.us/products/details/cat-12_TL-WA701ND.html

Please feel free to reach out to us directly for any help or assistance.

Best Regards!

5 out of 5 eggshappy

Pros: My server is noisy. due to the fact that it will not work with wifi, and my shed/shop is not hard wired, I needed to find a way to get ethernet out there. the window that the router is in and the shed face each other. I used this WAP and the dell Optiplex 755 that I ran speed test on, got 37m/sec of my 50m/sec behind the WAP and the 5 port hub so now my server doesn't keep me up at night.

Cons: none so far. setup came with a disk but it is totally not needed. there is actually a wizard in the html but it is not needed either.

Other Thoughts: personally, I am not a big fan of WiFi because of the security issues and the slower connections but this solution worked for me and my old HP server that was too loud for my bedroom.

5 out of 5 eggsSurprised By How Much Better it Was than Expected

Pros: Very easy and straightforward installation and configuration. Extremely versatile. Good quality, and performs like a workhorse.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Cannot believe how good this was for the price. Definitely consider TP-Link a go to brand now. Impressed on quality of GUI for configuration. And the POE option is something one would never expect on a unit in this price range. Have installed a second one at another location since this one.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: It does work and is small and lightweight. POE could be cool but I didn't try using it. Lots of features for the price.

Cons: I found the wireless signal to be extremely weak. I intended to use it as a WAP in the upstairs of my house to boost the signal from my ISP provided cable modem's built in Wifi, which is in my basement. The signal strength was fine in the same room (getting 10-20 mb up/down) but in adjacent rooms it was nearly lost (.5-2 mb up/down). I tried several positions and manually switching channels to no effect. I was getting a better connection to the cable modem's wireless two floors below.

Other's are saying it's working great for them but I would proceed with caution. You get what you pay for and this one works about as well as you'd expect for this low price. I will be returning for a higher quality one.

3 out of 5 eggsWonderful but annoying

Pros: Worked as a wireless bridge to connect a small business lan to the wifi hotspot provided by a cell phone. As long as the phone kept the connection up the network was stable.

Has a lot of options as to how to set it up (wireless access point, network bridge, etc.)

Cons: Unfortunately when the phone lost internet connectivity it also lost connection with the TP-Link. It would not reconnect without resetting the TP-Link and walking through the setup again.

Other Thoughts: Time Warner left a client without internet access for 30-60 days. Using the TP-LINK I was able to bridge their lan to a Galaxy s3 running as a hotspot.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, have two in bridge mode

Pros: I haven't had any issues so far. I have two of these. One in my house and one in a detached garage that is about 30 yards away. I have a poe switch in the garage that provides power to the two IP cameras mounted to the garage both pulling about 5-10MB to my VMS across the wireless link. Works without any problems.

Cons: none so far
