5 out of 5 eggsSurprised By How Much Better it Was than Expected

Pros: Very easy and straightforward installation and configuration. Extremely versatile. Good quality, and performs like a workhorse.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Cannot believe how good this was for the price. Definitely consider TP-Link a go to brand now. Impressed on quality of GUI for configuration. And the POE option is something one would never expect on a unit in this price range. Have installed a second one at another location since this one.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: It does work and is small and lightweight. POE could be cool but I didn't try using it. Lots of features for the price.

Cons: I found the wireless signal to be extremely weak. I intended to use it as a WAP in the upstairs of my house to boost the signal from my ISP provided cable modem's built in Wifi, which is in my basement. The signal strength was fine in the same room (getting 10-20 mb up/down) but in adjacent rooms it was nearly lost (.5-2 mb up/down). I tried several positions and manually switching channels to no effect. I was getting a better connection to the cable modem's wireless two floors below.

Other's are saying it's working great for them but I would proceed with caution. You get what you pay for and this one works about as well as you'd expect for this low price. I will be returning for a higher quality one.

3 out of 5 eggsWonderful but annoying

Pros: Worked as a wireless bridge to connect a small business lan to the wifi hotspot provided by a cell phone. As long as the phone kept the connection up the network was stable.

Has a lot of options as to how to set it up (wireless access point, network bridge, etc.)

Cons: Unfortunately when the phone lost internet connectivity it also lost connection with the TP-Link. It would not reconnect without resetting the TP-Link and walking through the setup again.

Other Thoughts: Time Warner left a client without internet access for 30-60 days. Using the TP-LINK I was able to bridge their lan to a Galaxy s3 running as a hotspot.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, have two in bridge mode

Pros: I haven't had any issues so far. I have two of these. One in my house and one in a detached garage that is about 30 yards away. I have a poe switch in the garage that provides power to the two IP cameras mounted to the garage both pulling about 5-10MB to my VMS across the wireless link. Works without any problems.

Cons: none so far

5 out of 5 eggsGreat inexpensive AP

Pros: - Inexpensive
- Modes: AP, Multiple SSID with VLANS, Client, Repeater and Bridge
- 5dbi antenna
- Detachable antenna with RP-SMA connector
- PoE adapter included
- Simple web Interface and configuration
- Nice looking unit
- VLAN capable
- Very good wireless speed, worked well with my Android tablet, Iphone phone and VAIO Notebook

Cons: not compatible with POE or POE+

Other Thoughts: This AP does not cost hundreds of dollars, it is designed for the home or small office. At the price range I think it has more than enough and it is simple to setup for anyone that can read the configuration page.

2 out of 5 eggsTP-LINK TL-WA701ND

Pros: TP-LINK TL-WA701ND Version 2.1 Issues

Cons: I but 5 of this last year. They're has been used as an Access Point 3 of them 2 as a Repeater. I had tried firmware update and different setting like channel # 1, 6 and 11. I'm not using Passive PoE at this moment seen I'm using it 120 feet away from the router. I have to reboot Access Point to often, otherwise clients won't have internet. At first I though that was my settings, but after reading reviews I just have one thing to say; they're not good for business environment.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We appreicate your review.

It seems like setting the device 120 feet away from the Router may be too far to get a good connection.

I would say you would be best to place it between 20 to 60 feet from the Router.

If you are using this as an Access Point and have an Etherent cable running from the Router to the WA701ND, then it shouldn't exceed around 260 feet.

Feel free to contact me directly if you have any issues or concerns at

Best Regards!
