3 out of 5 eggssome dropout issues

Pros: easy to configure and cheap.
wired circuitry is rock solid.

Cons: have had a handful of wireless dropout issues over the couple of months i've owned this. hopefully a firmware update will address the issue but for $30 i didn't expect much.

1 out of 5 eggsnot a good purchase

Pros: Price

Cons: I have had this router for 4 days and have had to power cycle it everyday to get it working. I am using this with cable model. The modem is not the problem because when I lose connection (wired and wireless) I plug the modem directly into my desktop and have working internet.

Other Thoughts: I have switched back to using my 5+ year old linksys

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for checking out our Router.

We are sorry to see that this Router has had some connectivity issues.

One suggestion is to upgrade the firmware of the device to fix any possible bugs or issues.

You can find the latest firmware on our website at: http://www.tp-link.us/support/download/?model=TL-WR940N&version=V2#tbl_j

Another suggestion for your Router maybe to enable the MAC cloning function and clone the PC MAC.

This will make your Modem think that your PC is connecting to it directly and prevent some MAC conflicts that may be present.

If you have any further questions or concerns then you can contact us directly for further support.

Best Regards!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: First time ever buying a tp-link router but after as many reviews i've seen for this router even on other sites i must say im impressed. Had a linksys wrt120n and when it worked ping was 89 for league of legends. now its 73. major difference. wired never really had a problem with linksys routers but my gosh their wifi sucks majorly. Used to only buy linksys and dont get me wrong the 54g series was the best and decent priced at the time of its debut. Anyways so far it's just as good as everyone says it is and in a few years if tp-link is doing just as good they may just become my preferred choice.

Cons: it wasn't free.... lol but seriously nothing at time of this writing.

Other Thoughts: can't beat the price for what you really get out of this router compared to others.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Not a bad Router

Cons: My main use of the router was to connect it to my Laptop and then Bridge it to a router with the internet on it. Talking to Tech support, it will not work that way. The TP-Link router needs to be the router with the internet on it, then you can bridge it out from there. Hmmmm.....I really don't understand why it will not work both ways. So, decided to put DD-WRT on it, It still needed to work the same way. Plus it is a little slow too. I think I'm going with ASUS Router. But not after I research it.

2 out of 5 eggsStinks. Don't buy.

Pros: Powerful, has 3 antennas, good range.

Cons: Loses connection daily. Has to be power cycled. I'm not the only reviewer saying this, read others.

Other Thoughts: I don't hate the TP-Link brand, but with this one they've made a stinker. I bought this with the TP-Link range extender. I though the range extender was bad, but then I unplugged it and used only the router, same problem. I am back to using my cheapo $25 wifi access point and will chalk this up to experience.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Hoosier,

We thank you for checking out TP-Link and we appreciate your review.

We can't tell if by loosing connection you mean from the Modem, Ethernet, or Wireless.

You may find that if you stay Wirelessly connected but loose Internet access, then the issue may be with the ISP or somewhere between the Modem and the WAN port of the Router.

If you keep getting Wireless connection drops, then the issue may be with the Wireless settings or the area around there.

If you go into the Wireless Configuration on your Router then you may want to check out some settings:
1. Try changing the Wireless channel to a static channel (like 2,3,9,etc.)
2. Change the Wireless width to 20 MHz for a more stable connection.
3. Change the Encryption to WPA(AES) for a better speed on the Wireless.

We have a 24 hour technical support team that can try to assist you further in trouble-shooting your device, you may find this helpful to isolate the problem.

You may also feel free to contact me directly for any issues or concerns at howard.he@tp-link.com.

Best Regards!

Pros: none

Cons: I bought this router since I like tp link wireless apapter. but
I lost connection to all my 5 devices in 24 hrs. I have to unplug and plug back in. It behaves same everyday. I returned it and get same one I was hoping I got bad unit for once. The replaced one behaves exactly same.
very frustrated.

Other Thoughts: the reason I am writing this review is also to know if anyone has same experience

2 out of 5 eggsNot really a Wireless Router

Pros: Works fine as an ethernet switch. Web interface is pretty good and allowed me to circumvent the useless CD setup. Plenty of wireless options, allows you to set the tx rate frequency to increase reliability. 3 antennas.

Cons: Router won't hold wireless signal as expected. Speeds and signal on PC fluctuates from 300mbps to 11mbps. Confirmed on 2 laptops and 1 desktop with USB module. Distance was not an issue, laptop from 15 feet had the same problem. Tested on unsecured and WPA secured network, set tx rate to 40mHZ, disabled frame burst, upgraded firmware, wireless channels tested w/ inSSIDer, disabled wireless N, changed ethernet cable, and many other attempts to get it to work and I came up with the same result. Router only suitable via ethernet.

Other Thoughts: My guess is that the transmitter just can't hold the connection speeds that I need up. I considered installing DDWRT but I don't want to jump on that grenade and void the return policy/warranty. I really wanted this thing to work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We're happy to hear that you like the features and web GUI on this router and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the unstable wireless speed issue, I think it's because the wireless adapters are power saving enabled.
When the traffic is idle, it will slow down the speed to save the power, but once the traffic comes up again, it will connect back to high speed.

Please check it by downloading and browsing, you may feel the power saving mode on the adapter.

We thank you for checking out our product and wish you could check out more of our new products in the futhre.
