5 out of 5 eggsVery High Quality

Pros: Plug and play in every sense of the word, and the green feature is nice...I'm using it in my home so none of the cables are more than 50 feet to a wall outlet. Doesn't get hot.

Cons: built in wall mount hardware was a bit skinny

Other Thoughts: Most bang for the buck and has super low latency, just plug it in and go 1gbps!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsNice switch works out of the box

Pros: Solid feeling, heavy unit.

It's nice to have a steel case for a change. The corners are squared so it is easy to EIA rack mount or stack on a shelf.

It's convection cooled. That's sort of a double edged sword -- on one hand it's quiet on the other hand the power supply is a built in heat source and one probably should be careful to not obstruct any air flow.

Cons: This is a never ending burr in my personal saddle. I don't like having the connections (in this case the RJ-45 sockets) on the same side as the activity indicators. Granted it's nice in a patch closet but it really looks messy in a less dedicated setting.

Other Thoughts: I like the separate 10/100 and 1,000 communications bandwidth lights. It's a quick way to spot the slow devices.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA -- minor tech support issues

Pros: Solid heavy unit. Internal power supply uses the standard desktop computer modular mains cable.

Cons: Well, the thing was DOA. The problem was that the power light came on but none of the lights associated with the ports did anything. It happens to even the best so I'm not all that comfortable giving only one egg.

The technical support was troublesome, however.

1) The support person had a severe oriental accent. I found it very difficult to understand her.

2) I'd just replaced a working switch (going from 8 to 16 ports) and she actually wanted me to replace 8 cables -- an unlikely strategy given that all eight are not likely to be so tentative that they'll only work with the old switch.

3) It never occurred to her that a loop back (from port 9 to port 10, for example) with a short known good patch cable should at least bring on the "connect" indicator.

Other Thoughts: I ordered a replacement. The same shipment included two two TP-Link 5 port switches which aren't DOA.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We appreicate your review and we are sorry that you are not satisfied with this product.

Since there is not configuration with the device then it is really hard to trouble-shoot and change variables to get the device working again.

The main steps for us to take are simple tests to actually determine if the device is DOA or not.

Feel free to contact me direcly at for any local support. I would be happy to help setup your device once you receive it.

Best Regards!

5 out of 5 eggsGoing strong 2+ months

Pros: Nice solid construction. Weighs alot so multiple cords wont pull on the box. Using 10 of the ports at the moments in a home network setup without any problems.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Was the cheapest Unmanaged 16-port switch at the time. Was a little hesitant on getting it because of low reviews but I have no regrets. Wanted to upgrade to a 16 port switch rather than add another 8 port box in my home network. This works wonderfully for my setup. Would recommend to anyone looking to expand their wired network.

5 out of 5 eggsAs described

Pros: Price, easy of installation and speed of device. Internet speed on all office computers increased after upgrading to this one from an older (7 yrs) Linksys 10/100 16 port switch.

I'm no IT guy, know just enough to hurt myself, but our peer to peer star topology network was bogging down with some computers getting REAL slow over the internet the last few months. Couldn't figure out why after many tries, but did notice the older switch was hotter than normal so I just decided to upgrade. Easy cheap change for a noticeable difference in speed.

Cons: None so far.

Only small complaint is shipping package where the switch box was just sitting on the bottom of their box with big bubble padding on top. No cushion to the box underneath. I just believe a device such as this should be shielded a bit from the shipping box walls, not right up against them to help cushion jolts and hard bumps.

5 out of 5 eggsanother excellent product

Pros: Excellent product, reliable, not a single reboot needed, great price, solid construction.

I'm becoming a bigger fan of tp-link more now, looking forward to more reliable products from you.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid product

Pros: I work mostly in corporate environments and this is exactly where I installed this switch in. It is currently installed in a network connecting about 15 workstations, 4 access points, multiple printers, cellphones and others with no problems for almost a year. It is the 1st switch connected to the main SonicWall Firewall device and it is handling the traffic like a champ. Very easy to install inside Server rack :)

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsBlazing file transfer speeds

Pros: I replaced an 8 port GB switch from a different manufacturer. Previously my average transfer speed had been 60 to 70 MBs across my network. This switch is now giving me 95 MBs consistently! (cat6 cables on the entire network)

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I wished I had bought this sooner...........

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Product

Pros: Power it up, connect Ethernet devices, never think about it again. Works like a charm. Excellent warranty (5 years).

No external power supply.

Mine was destroyed in a lightening strike after 18 months of flawless operation, TP Link replaced it without question.

Cons: Power LED is red - every time I see it I think there is fault - there isn't. No real issue.

Telephone support was poor (no answer a few times), email was far better - the problem is you have to speak with them to get an RMA started - or at least I did. Next time I'll just email them. The replacement unit was slow to be sent out. The team there was always polite, professional, and responsive - no real complaints.

Other Thoughts: If TP-Link could get their support on par with their products, and it really wouldn't take much, they would be an outstanding company to do do business with.

I recommend this product highly, and the service/support is only an irritation for me, it wasn't enough to stop me placing an order for a second TP-Link switch today (on Newegg - of course).

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: What you basically have is a low cost affordable switch.

Cons: not reliable in my opinion. Lasted 1 year.

Other Thoughts: At about 1 year of ownership, half the ports on one side died out. several days after, the other side died out.

no surges happened during that time. product is kept in a climate controlled server room.

replacing tp-link switch with a different brand, same features, a little more expensive, but I hope it will have more longevity in the long run.

Even if I am able to RMA this product, I'm not sure it's even worth my time. If something goes out, I need it replaced that day. I don't think I can rely on it if I had to install it at another office knowing it will fail in a short time span. At least it lasted one year.. I guess that's worth 1 egg... scrambled.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,
We're sorry to hear the switch is hardware defective after one year.
TP-LINK USA provides 5-year warranty to this switch and we can issue you a RMA service if you need it.
And we can get it back and analyze this defective switch to find out any possible causes in order to make better switches.
Please feel free to contact me.

Best Regards!
