5 out of 5 eggsTP-LINK TL-SG1016D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 16-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1016D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 16-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: 16 ports gigabit basic switch, cheap, does it's job. Speeds are much better than on my Netgear 8 port. wil see how it will perform in future. Time will show.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: needed more ports for new devices, so ordered this one to replace my 8 port netgear switch. Feels like it a little bit faster. I like it so far.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Customer service - read actual response below

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1016D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 16-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: Connects to gigabit devices

Cons: Worse than horrible customer service.
I received a defective unit that would not connect to any 100 Mpbs devices. I contacted customer service to get it fixed or replaced.
Here's the response I got;

"Dear Errol,
Many thanks for your valued reply.
Really sorry for the delay in getting back to you as I was off duty yesterday.
It seems that there is something wrong with the speed negotiation between the switch and your 100Mbps devices. In this case, sorry but I'm afraid that we cannot do anything on this switch as it's just plug-and-play.
Your understanding will be highly appreciated.
Have a good day."

Other Thoughts: That's it. I'm stuck with a broken switch.
I will never buy another TP-Link product again.

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1016D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 16-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: Very nice product, like a Lincoln ! Worked immediately. I got rid of a lot unnecessary RJ-45 cables after re-wiring my telecomm shelf. I highly recommend TP-LINK's TL-SG1016D.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Glad I purchased this from Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsEXCELLENT PRODUCT

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1016D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 16-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: Don't let the price fool you. This is an excellent unmanaged switch that we attached to our shop network to replace an older unit. Bouncing packets around the place showed that performance was right up there with the more expensive units.

Also, it has plenty of blinkenlights to assist you in resolving any connectivity issues you might encounter.

Cons: No cons to report at this time.

Other Thoughts: We recommend this product without reservation. It performs like a switch costing two to three times as much.

2 out of 5 eggsWake On LAN doesn't work?

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1016D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 16-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: 16 gigabit ports

Cons: Wake On LAN doesn't seem to work. WOL was fine with previous 8 port TrendNet Gigabit Switch. Swapped in this TP Link, and now WOL is not working.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat performer for a large home network

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1016D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 16-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: I am a strong believer in wired networking. So when I was searching for a switch to connect my home, this was the perfect choice.

- Plenty of room for expansion (16 ports)

- Great performance. I've never really stress tested this switch, but I can have multiple computers transferring files at gigabit speeds and I can still browse the web with no noticeable delays. (This would probably lock up your average broadband router)

- Great metal case and the rackmount option is nice.

Cons: My wife won't connect her laptop to the CAT5 jack I conveniently placed on her side of the bed. (Not a fault of the switch... I think)

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1016D 10/100/1000Mbps Unmanaged 16-Port Gigabit Desktop/rackmountable Switch, Metal case, Power-Saving

Pros: 16 Gigabit ports for a great price. The definitive example of Plug & Play.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Breaks out my 2Wire Uverse gateway to my home network of a dozen or better wired devices including PC's, DirecTV DVR, AppleTV and Blu-Ray player. Been up 24/7 since new and not one issue. I really haven't noticed it was there to tell the truth. Just plain works!
