3 out of 5 eggsGets the job done

Pros: Small and efficient. Seems to print with no trouble.

Cons: Setup is more involved that I would like.

Other Thoughts: There's not a whole lot to say about a print server. This one is nice and simple. I do wish set-up was easier, however. Unless I'm missing something, you have to use the setup file included on the disk to install the printer on a new computer. For an office situation with a lot of machines this is a bit annoying. It would be nice if you could add it like any other network printer.

Other than that, it seems to be pretty reliable so far and does what it's supposed to.

5 out of 5 eggsdoes what I need it to

Pros: I bought this print server to share a Dymo Twin Turbo label printer. Prior to purchasing this item the printer was shared on a Windows box, and the workstation's sharing service and print spooler service were giving us problems. Using this print server, workstations can print directly to the printer without having to play nice with a Windows workstation's OS. The ability to avoid using Windows sharing might be particularly useful in a mixed-OS environment.

Cons: None. It doesn't make any difference to me, but this item is not wireless. It needs an wired Ethernet network connection.

Other Thoughts: I can confirm that this item works with the Dymo Twin Turbo label printer. I didn't see this printer on the hardware compatibility list, nevertheless, the unit is working as we need it to.

5 out of 5 eggsEASY SET UP!

Pros: Not sure why some people have trouble setting this little guy up. My network IP schema does not match the default IP on the product, but that was not a problem. I connected network and power, popped in the CD, the Wizard found the unit on the network, I set a static IP that matched the IP port the printer was set up on, powered up the printer, and all is well.

Cons: Time will tell. As long as it keeps passing on print jobs, I'm happy.

Other Thoughts: This replaced an old HP 10MB Jet Direct that was beginning to fail.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I bought this to replace a Linksys PSUS4 print server that finally gave out after 8 years of great service with an HP LaserJet 1012. This print server has taken over without missing a beat.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: As some other reviewers pointed out, before doing anything else, connect the print server DIRECTLY to a PC and change the IP address on the print server to a static IP. For example, if your router's gateway is 192.168.0.1, set the static IP to something such as: 192.168.0.200. You may need to run the utility from the enclosed disc to make this change. After that, connect the print server to a port on the router (or switch). You will then be able to go to the IP address you set (in this example, http://192.168.0.200, and will be able to access the settings from there. Then it's just a matter of setting up a network printer in Windows to the IP address of the server.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great... simple install, just follow the install guide

Pros: This thing is tiny, the pictures here don't give you an idea on how small the device really is, it's smaller than a deck of cards. I was able to install it under my desk very discretely. Follow the quick install guide and you can easily get this working on your network. Most people don't default their network to the .0. subnet (read 192.168.0.1 subnet..... most default to the 192.168.1.1 subnet). Either way, the setup guide on the provided CD guides you thru setting up on your own network subnet. Follow this and you cannot go wrong. Also, set an IP on the print server and give it a static IP on your router to keep things always working.

I added 3 more hard wired PCs, and 1 wireless PC on my network with ease by following the user guide and everything worked great.

My printer is a work horse LaserJet 1320 and this print server greatly expanded the capability of it.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Some may find that this print server comes defaulted on the .0. subnet, but if you follow the quick install guide and the setup provided on the install CD that you can easily setup the server on your own internal subnet.

Check the printer compatibility pdf that's on TP-LINks website to be sure that your printer is completely compatible with this print server.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for Windows XP, doesn't work with Ubuntu or OS X

Pros: This works great with XP and a HP LaserJet P1102W. No problems at all with that configuration. It's a good buy for the price and that configuration.

Cons: This doesn't work at all with OS X 10.8.3 or Ubuntu 12. I have tried every configuration that these OS's can use, but absolutely nothing works. When I try to use SMB, the Mac reports that it can't work with that Windows version, and Ubuntu just doesn't recognize it when I search for it, and it won't work with it if I specify the IP address. IPP doesn't work, LPD/LPR doesn't work, AppSocket doesn't work, nothing. I either get an error message, or the job just disappears. I would upgrade the software, but my PS110U has later software than what's available for download.

Other Thoughts: I configured the IP address via DHCP and a reserved address. Yes, it's a pain to have to first configure one of my computers to 192.168.0.x, but I understand why they did it that way. The web interface is OK, and is usable. The settings remain after they are saved, and persist through a power recycle.

3 out of 5 eggsDidn't work with older printer

Pros: Support is 24/7 and they offered to send instructions to my email address
Support for lots of newer printers
Had Instructions in the boxes

Cons: Tried installing several times with reboots too, but found out it is not compatible with HP 2430 (albeit an old printer)
If you only speak English, it's a lil harder to understand the support team's accent

1 out of 5 eggsTPLink Lives Up to it's Name

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Static IP Address at default
Useless software
Doesn't Work

Other Thoughts: I always wondered what the TP in TPLink stood for...and I still don't. But now I am going to assume it stands for Toilet Paper...because the only thing this piece of garbage is suited for is wiping someone's behind (I have to say behind since NewEgg insists we don't hwurt anyones wittle fweelings) with, and I doubt it would handle that task very well either.

The software has a default IP lying in the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet...unfortunately my network is on 192.168.2.0/24, so I had to setup my router differently. Once I could access, the software they provided with the print server still wouldn't do anything. So I went in through the web interface and got it set up.

Once I finally got it configured and setup the printer through my computer...the test page wouldn't print. The web interface says it's printing...but the printer does nothing. Then it claims it's out of paper. What a complete pile of garbage (once again, can't swear...I guess we are in kindergarten).

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to check out our Printer Server. We appreciate you from offending any users on here with foul language.

It would be much easier for you to just change the ip address of the Printer Server instead of your Router, Servers, and anything else that may be static on your Network.

You can do this by connecting directly to the Printer Server and manually connect it to your Router with the correct ip address.

It is also best to make sure that your Printer is even compatible with our device. You can find this out by checking the compatability list on our website:
http://www.tp-link.us/resources/document/TL-PS110U_Compatibility_List_2.pdf

You may also find it helpful to upgrade or reflash the firmware from our website at:

4 out of 5 eggsTo print, or not to print; that is the question.

Pros: • inexpensive
• simple and fairly intuitive (HTTP) interface

Cons: • Hard-coded initial network address of 192.168.0.10;
It •is• configurable, but the problem is connecting to the device if you're not on a 192.168.0… subnet.

• No way to store/restore settings — not that there are •that• many items to configure

• Difficult to determine if later version of firmware exists;
Between what's reported on the configuration interface and what's listed on the manufacturer's site, I don't know which is later. There is no, "check for update" ability.

Other Thoughts: • Helpful mfr article about setting up PS for WinXP/2K (and beyond): www.tp-link.fr/article/?id=181

• Suggested (Windows): turn off bi-directional support ("Ports" tab on printer properties dialog) as this should stop spoolers on Windows clients from re-queuing cancelled jobs.

• Online posts revealed several suggestions to NOT use supplied mfr install disk but rather do the few steps manually.

• If you choose the DHCP TCP/IP option, be sure to associate a fixed IP the device's MAC-ID (on the DHCP server/router) so that clients need not constantly reconfigure/rediscover the print service.
———————————

I'm using the TP-Link PS to offload printing from a soon-to-be-decommissioned WinXP box. Have been mulling a network printer purchase but didn't want to discard a perfectly fine (well, when it works, but that's another story) inkjet printer.
